.hack//The Movie was announced on August 23rd, 2011 by CyberConnect2. The movie stars a 14-year-old girl named Sora Yuuki who is invited by friends Kakeru and Tomohiko to play "The World" -4th Era- ("Force" Era). Set in 2024, "The World" is now played on a smartphone, and can be used with with a wireless controller and FMD sold by ALGOS Corporation, a large PC manufacturer that was bought by ALTIMIT Corporation. Unlike .hack//G.U. Trilogy, CC2's first CG animated flick, this is a full-fledged movie that will sweep select Japanese theaters in 3D! The movie is directed by Hiroshi "Piros" Matsuyama of .hack, written by Kazunori Ito of Ghost in the Shell, and animated by the studio sai.
