I am playing one currently. It's always best to look first, though, so you don't get into a game with poor RPers. I'm in Divergence, by far the largest .hack RP community. The only complaint I have at this point is that a lot of people name their characters after figures from anime, which I find a little distracting. Other than that, this is the ideal game to join IMHO.

I probably wouldn't. To be honest, the idea of a written RPG just seems terribly dull and boring. That's only me though. I'm sure there are many people who would enjoy it.

I myself have been playing .hack RPGs on forums for the past 5 years.

In my opinion, it's good. But I'd say, join then look. I'm part of .hack//New World right now and that so far, is my fave because it's got Administrators and moderators that do their work diligently.
But here are a few pointers:
You MUST HAVE A BATTLE SYSTEM AND A STORYLINE.
You MUST HAVE RULES THAT PEOPLE WILL ABIDE BY.
You MUST HAVE ALOT OF EVENTS AND MISSIPNS.
you MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST HAVE AREAS AND CHAOS GATES! >_<
lol, end of rant.

I like written Rps and have been doing them for years now, though I only ever participated in one .hack Rp and that was short-lived. ¬_¬
A good .hack Rp must never have custom Classes, I hate seeing a list of Classes that goes Twin Blade, Heavy Blade, Blademaster, Wavemaster, Long Arm, Heavy Axeman, Ninja... O.o
You can't have a story about some new Vagrant AI and then just say 'also there are ninjas'. Ninja does NOT fit into the world of .hack!
I also prefer The World R:2 to The World, comparing the two of them, the original seems rather plain. But that's just me, I prefer the new, darker style.
No money system. I hate it when people feel the need to use a money system in a text-based Rp, what makes a text-based Rp fun is the lack of statistics. You're armed with your creativity and that's it.
Levels are fine simply for ranking players in terms of skill but these become difficult to determine in a long-term Rp.
Battle systems aren't necessary as long as you don't let in people that will abuse the lack of it. The most common system is to trade blows, with one person describing their attack and the other describing their reaction to it.
Set up a test in the application by asking for a sample Rp post. If you think they aren't acceptable, then don't let them in.
Create limits. Don't let everyone be level 150 Multi-Weapons, if people's levels are getting unrealistically high or there is a vast majority of a particular Class then stop any more from applying until its been balanced out.
Don't let people power-play or god-mode. Don't allow people to decide what happens to a character that isn't their's without the owner's permission. Don't let people make their characters unrealistically powerful.
Don't let people have things such as Twilight Bracelets, AIDA infections, Avatars, etc. unless this is part of the storyline. If it is part of the storyline, don't limit any abilities to yourself.
Give people freedom. You can have events or tournaments but don't make them mandatory, let people decide what they want to do.

Sound interesting. I've been trying to find another one and I'm up for trying new things. I just hope the people running this project are capable of handling it.

And that added what to the discussion exactly? O.o
If you hate text-based Rps then ignore anything to do with them. You don't do anyone any favours by telling people who like them that you don't.

.hack//Encryption......>> *Waves finger at anyone here that plays there.*
I agree with that statement completely. However, I think you should be able to kill a player without permission.

That's unfair. If you say something like "Poopcake takes out a dagger
and PKs Raisinbran," that doesn't give the other player time to react
and say something like "Raisinbran dodges, aims a blow with his heavy
blade at Poopcake, and swings." Then Poopcake could choose to block
it or what not. this kind of situation is where Statistics and battle systems
would come in handy.

Yes, umbra, he is right... The purpous of this topic was for
corrupt.data to obtain the opinions of people, on whether they
would or wouldn't play a text-based RPG. He didn't do anything
that promoted your response.

Not like that, you misunderstood. That would be god-modding. I'm saying that a person should not have to have permission to kill someone. That a player will get to choose when he/she dies, but does not have give the other permission to kill him/her. Understand? I sure hope so...>>

Hmm? I'm on a few Three Kingdom related RP sites, it seems that whenever a player wishes tio harm another player, a grand plot must be sent in to the adminisitration, which run the event as smoothly as possible, thyher's always a chance of survival for the "victikm" they just have to stay smart and not lose thei cool, I believe that in itself is a pretty good system..

Never seen that sytem before. Hm...
I've seen a system in which players exchange blows until someone decides that he himself has died.
Or the other in which you cannot kill someone without permission. And you basically just fight with the intention to kill, but you know that you really won't/can't kill that person due to rules...>>
Or another where there is a judge of sorts in which the judge decides if the player's dodge/attack was succesful and if the player dies. This one is a little less interesting, but much more fair.

I am bulding a kind of a micro network of midias, as there will be a forum and a site, the site with registration forms and the forum off course of the game. It jut wouldnt be a good idea to tell the url, cause I am really working hard on the plot and the system ( still rdiculously hard to find staff) and I just would hate to have some anti written RP dud crashing my pc or my site =) but at the end of the 30 day poll I will invite to the game if its results lead to it, thanks for the coments , tll now , i have with this topic corrected to 4 huge mistakes, =) lets see than what is decided at the end
