What's your typical approach?

Post by chrissii »

So I've been re-examining my approach to the game, and was wondering how everyone else goes through it. Do the majority of you go through Data Draining enemies whenever possible? Or are you like me and you go through and fight for the Exp. points, only Data Draining when it's a desperate situation, or if it's a Data Bug?

I personally go the second route, but I usually end up kicking myself when I need to Gate Hack and I don't have enough Virus Cores

I sort of switch between them. I also data drain monsters for equipment. In this game. I have barely data drained monsters due to the fact that the infection rate is like doubled that of outbreak. Drain one monster and I go completly green. Even if it's in the same exp level.

This is a good topic!

I'm one of those weird, idealistic people who spends of the time stopped, smelling the roses.

I like to wander around and admire my environment. :P

Generally in dungeons I bring lots of Fairy's Orbs so I have a very straightforward path.. I try to avoid as many fights as possible, and I open every destroyable object and chest I find to boost up my supplies.

In combat the first thing I do is look for a weakness to exploit, such as an elemental tolerance/intolerance, or any other variables put into the battle. If the enemy seems worthy of data draining I do so, either to get good items or because I want to work towards more Ryu books. When I need EXP I avoid it altogether, as one would expect.

I also like stalking other players in Root Towns to see if they have any good items for trade.

I data drained and leveled like no tommorrow to unlock all of the Ryu books extras, thats why I had 34 hours on infection alone. True, its much harder to Data drain constantly the higher you go up in the parts but a challege none the less. That way I have more then enough virus cores. :D

I've always just Data Drained when hunting for something specific, if it's required, or I'm in a desperate situation. Otherwise, I prefer not to. You level up faster that way.
I have barely data drained monsters due to the fact that the infection rate is like doubled that of outbreak. Drain one monster and I go completly green. Even if it's in the same exp level.
I've noticed that the infection rate is much higher, also. It makes hunting for Virus Cores even more frustrating (and it doesn't help this game requires the most!).

Well, usually I am the type that hates to drain unless forced to, for a data bug, or when I am about to die. So I can easily take my people (did last night... forgot to save yesterday) who are level 74 to a level 95 area, and not die (nice level ups though). Given, the phase-in-a-stick wavemaster rods you get later on help out, but thats not that big of a deal. However, with the search for these f****** virus cores, I have tended to use this tactic: if it moves, drain the living **** out of it. As you can tell, I am slightly frustraited by the virus cores (DIE YOU SON OF A... uh, yeah.) and therefore don't like playing for two hours to get to do something that should take 10 minutes. So, after going VC hunting, I tend to go to a delta server level 1-10 area by myself and run through like a banshee and kill everything; it really lowers the infection rate fast!

When it comes to dungeons with data bugs or phases, I only data drain when I have to. When I'm training, or if I'm going through a sidequest dungeon (that doesn't have data bugs), I DD every once in a while to see what I get.

Mostly I stick to leveling up...
if it's a place where the monsters are weak,I just data drain them.

I am one of the people who have to look for cores all the time. But between games, I spent hours leveling up my character.

I usually data drain only when its a data bug or I'm in need of equipment or virus cores. Otherwise, I'll take a gameover rather than needlessly DD.

The lower your viral infection rate the higher the chance of getting virus cores

I almost always kill the monsters right out to get get exp. points, but every ten or so I'll data drain to get virus cores or try to get new weapons or armour. Also I'll data drain if the monster is super hard or infected. That's my approach.

All i do is run up to the enemy and kill them all. and when there is a boring scene i just skip it.

My technique is the same as Subaru's. I keep on breaking the breakable jars to get lots of supplies for the quest. That's why it takes me almost an hour to complete one dungeon! -_-;;

Well i got a simple way of doing things:

Monster Approach:
When i get in a fight i mostly kill everything or data drain menhir (when they are two that awfully long to kill without data drain since they keep reviving them self) I also data drain monster to get some rare and if all my people classes got them i sell it for a good amount of cash :)

Boss Approach:
I firstly send my ally to attack the boss with ''Everyone,Skills!'' and heal them from afar and when i am tired or think its weakened alot i get in the fight and use my skill and run to wait for Sp or use mage soul and keep skilling or just attack after Sp run out.
Mostly it works

P.S.Anyone know if once we completed, for exemple mutation, but doesnt have all the extras. if we import the game in part 4 will we be still able to unlock the extras?

If you do not convert from Vol. 1 to Vol. 4, and just start in Vol. 4, you can't get the virus cores necessary to open the bonus dungeons of the previous versions.
