Plans For A New .hack Game Are In The Works Says Matsuyama

Earlier this year, .hack makers CyberConnect2 held a special event, where CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama shed some light on a possible .hack development in the future. It looks like that future might be coming sooner than expected, as he has revealed that the company is already working on plans for a new .hack title.

During a recent event to commemorate the first year anniversary of CyberConnect2’s Guilty Dragon, an iPhone/Android game that is in some way connected to the .hack universe, Matsuyama stated that the service for Guilty Dragon is going smoothly, and that if players continue supporting the game, it will increase the chances of releasing a new .hack title for PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita, a Vita version of .hack//G.U., or an HD remake of .hack and more.

“CyberConnect2 have already begun the planning for the latest installment of the .hack series, and it’s only a matter of time until we can make it a reality,” said Matsuyama at a recent art event, adding that CC2 are currently preparing for that time to come, and he hopes to continue seeing fans support Guilty Dragon and the developer.

Siliconera previously spoke to Matsuyama, and he confirmed that Guilty Dragon will be coming to North America and Europe “later on,” so when that happens, you might also be able to help make a new .hack a reality.

Words cannot describe how badly I want a G.U. remake.

If that's a possibility, I am 100% in.
let's cross the sky, to the future!

More .hack is always interesting but I think I'll try not to get too excited, because the possibility of this being another mobile title is quite high. I wouldn't mind seeing a .hack game for the PS Vita but I'd still much rather a proper console entry. It's been almost 7 years since G.U.

Siliconera is often off about the details of the nuances of these things, but Matsuyama did finally say they've planned another .hack, and making it is just a matter of when. And they damn well better be, given the current unfinished state of the story. But aside from revealing their commitment to making it, it isn't that different from what we already knew. They already said they had something planned, and that they were waiting on funding, now they just said the same thing but in a more reassuring way. But they haven't made it yet. Much like Strelka Stories, it's just something they plan on doing. It could be on PS4, or PS5, or PS6 (look at the gap between Tail Concerto and Solatorobo).

They have some interesting behind the notes stories about the series. One proposal was to make the main character of Guilty Dragon turn out to be an AI, since they're the first .hack hero who doesn't talk.

^_^ Since its a matter of when I'll just pass the time with Guilty Dragon when it gets released, gotta do our part.

Speaking of .hack plans, they still haven't mentioned about the trademark filed in Europe unless thats them paving the way for Guilty Dragon. Filing it early due to the number of languages they'll need to translate the game into.

Well Im sure the .hack community is accustomed to waiting..lol

If it is only a matter of time, then I can wait. Although a guilty dragon localization would definitely make it easier. And also, while they're working on a new game, can't they slap GU on the ps3? It shouldn't be that hard

A mobile title would be a bit disappointing. It's a great platform for casual games, but when it comes to titles requiring longer gaming sessions, it's more comfortable to have a console/PC. It would be weird to see a CC2 game on PC, though.

I'm just wondering what implies this "matter of time". Technical capabilities ?

It's not quite a "matter of time," it's a "matter of when." As in they don't even know. They're waiting for publisher backing. It's financial, not technological. It's not like the SDKs for PS4 aren't out yet. This comment is really just a continuation from what he said in this article I wrote, with an increased degree of certainty that this will happen at some point:

http://dothackers.net/index.php?subacti ... 1366057752

Unfortunately a lot of the English sources covering this are messing up important nuances in their translations, so there's a lot of misinformation. Gematsu in particular indicated that they opted for sensationalism over accuracy.

Anyway, the point now is that, barring disaster, there will be more .hack eventually, so that's something to celebrate.
