Xbox to be banned?

Huh. I've got to wonder. Has this been going on for a while and they just finally got a ruling or did Motorola suddenly decide to file suit against Microsoft? I don't really get why the 360 would have to stop being sold. Ultimately, if Motorola wins, won't they just get paid a cut of the profits Microsoft got off their 360 sales? I mean, I don't know anything more about the case than what little information the video provided, but stopping the sale of the 360 seems like an odd ruling. I guess I could see Microsoft making the decision, if they thought they were going to lose, but for the time being they're apparently making a show of confidence. Whether that's just a show or not, I guess we'll see. Y'know in another few years once both companies have slugged it out in even more legislation.

Re: Xbox to be banned?
I think it was brought up based on a counter law-suit. Not long ago Microsoft had sued Motorola now owned by Google over patent infringements on older Motorola phones and potentially issuing a stop sale to those older phones in the US by the ITC. Ultimately giving them the choice to remove the infringing content on those certain phones, modify in a way that it doesn't infringe, or pay licensing fees to Microsoft to continue selling of said phones.
Now that Google has money hungry lawers, they probably evaluated the Xbox console and controllers more closely to issue a counter law-suit and got what they were looking for.

Not sure it really matters, we've only got 1 or 2 holiday seasons before the next console generation anyway. If they don't get sold for a while it doesn't really matter.
Either way, I'm guessing Microsoft is just gonna pay a settlement and keep selling their product. Those Govt. officials are just on another Anti-Gaming Crusade.

Motorola hates the Red Ring of Death more than anyone else

Lol does it really matter. In the hypothetical that the Xbox can't be sold Obama would likely lose a nice chunk of his supporters. Also it wouldn't matter since Microsoft pretty much made their money and will release the next Xbox in a year or two. They still going to get money from games like Call of Duty Black Ops 2, Halo 4, and other games.

Microsoft was allowed to use the code from Motorola until now right? However Microsoft forced Motorola into making the code public in the first place. Yet from here Motorola found a way to remove that freedom from their code. With this mess in mind I cannot tell who was more corrupt. Motorola is clearly wrong to restrict Microsoft but Microsoft forced them into making the rest of their work public in the first place.
Every explanation from either of them is bull. I think Microsoft will lose a fair section of money and Motorola will lose some control over their codex, which speaking of codex which are patented didn’t a certain inventor named Thomas Edison pull the same move by patenting nearly everything invention in the world so he could make money from it, despite the fact that he did not truly invent it? I think that is horrible trait for Motorola. To add against Microsoft’s defense they have pulled this type of mess before? IRC The graphics engine for either the X-BOX or the X-BOX 360 is a modified version of the machine used for the Sony PS3. Microsoft is gluttonous when it comes to resources. Microsoft is neat, real neat but they ought to lose for once to become a company that’s a bit more innovative.

So you're saying if Microsoft looses out, it may be a good thing? Like a wake up call?(Phantom) Thief wrote:Microsoft was allowed to use the code from Motorola until now right? Truth be told, I'm still confused about what's going on.

Yes. I believe that is the best resolve. In truth this reminds me of a situation from the 90’s. IRC several years ago Microsoft attempted a full monopolization of the market by refusing to release the operation code used in its Windows OS. Much with the move Motorola wants today it tried to protect its possessions but lost to a law by unanimous court rulings. The problem with the current situation is that their methods are another form of cheating the market and Microsoft forced a company to open their work and used those resources without any payment or much less credit. Meanwhile Motorola is that organization of the past. The difference is that Motorola wanted to restrict just Microsoft because of how they desired to use their work. Business is hard. Motorola will have to learn the same lesson Microsoft did but grow the current Microsoft must figure out how to work using own systems. The ideal is to become open and creative but not dependent. Does that help?

Kind-of...so its basically come kind of "power struggle" between the similarity of business tactics.
