Greatest Villains of All Time
I ran across this when I was browsing. And it really came down to some tough choices.
http://www.gamespot.com/greatest-video- ... index.html
For me it came down to:
Virgil (DMC3) Vs. The Joker (Batman): I had to pick the Joker, just because I'd be lying to myself otherwise.
Kerrigan (Starcraft) Vs. Heihachi (Tekken): Kerrigan got it.
Sephiroth Vs. Team Rocket: Sephiroth got it, even though I'm more of a Pokémon fanboy, I had to.
Darth Vader Vs. Cervantes (Soul Calibur): This one I haven't been able to make a decision on. They're both parents. They both dominate their opponents. They're both dark and awesome. I'm literally thinking of doing a coin toss to decide. Cervantes is more of a villain though.
But then, I have:
The Joker Vs. Kerrigan, Cervantes Vs. Sephiroth, and the winners of each of those facing each other!
The Joker: Greatest comic book villain in history! But he's not exactly fighting superman...
Kerrigan: Queen of the Zerg, ability to use magic, sexy.
Cervantes: Immortal, feeds on souls, is the only being able to wield Soul Edge without succumbing to its will.
Sephiroth: The famous boogie man of FF7, got defeated by a rookie, can reincarnate, cool headed attitude no matter what!
So yeah, who would you chose? And TRUST ME, choosing Cervantes over Darth Vader was HAAAAARRRRDDD!

Re: Greatest Villains of All Time
I'd still pick Colonel Nohman over ALL of those villains.
I mean, Overpowered? when in Anubis, very much so.
Psychopathic? So much so that he doesn't just want a world filled with chaos, he wants the destruction of EVERYTHING.
Able? Were it not for a sudden pot-luck move made by Jehuty and Dingo, he would have succeeded in accomplishing his goal, a goal which cannot be undone by anyone once it's been accomplished, no matter how powerful they are.
I'd say that comes pretty close to tops.

Bernkastel, from Umineko no Naku Koro ni (some people count VNs as 'games', right?)
Forget those lame assholes like Sephiroth or Kefka or Team Rocket or whoever the hell, they're just two dimensional flat Mary Sue villains that are basically all the same guy under different names, with little depth or meaning beyond being a bad dude to stop.
Bernkastel, however, is a Witch of Miracles. She is someone spiritually connected to, and based off of, a beloved hero from Higurashi, Rika Furude, and thus gains our trust as readers. She supports us while showing little emotion or regard, and despite being totally distant, we feel we can trust her.
But she betrays this trust, revealing herself to be responsible for just about everything bad that's happened in the series, and is still playing all sides against each other to create more suffering. Why? Because she's bored. The worst part is that she's pretty much immortal and unkillable.

It's true that godmode trolls piss me off more than anything, but that's all Bernkastel really is in that sense; a massive, godmoding TROLL.
And being the troll that she is, I can't really see her as being a 'true' villain.
I'm of the opinion that psychopathic doomsday enthusiasts who find beauty in sucking the universe into a supermassive blackhole -A la Aumaan- to be a bit more 'villain' material than your standard troll -A la Umineko/ Higurashi-

Mecha-Hitler.

Re: Greatest Villains of All Time
I decided to redo this with the "Who would win in a fight?" mentality... Now I'm even MORE stuck! My final 8 are hard!
Virgil Vs. Psycho Mantis. (leaning toward Virgil)
Kefka Vs. Lavos. (leaning toward Kefka)
Darth Malak Vs. Darth Vader. (leaning toward Malak)
Sephiroth Vs. Akuma. (leaning toward Akuma)

Voldemort a.k.a Tom Riddle.
Very smart.
Very powerful
Merciless.
Tons of allies.
Nearly achieved immortality in a sense.
8 pieces of his soul that you had to destroy before he would ever die.

Come talk to me again when you play EP7. She's outright EVIL, and pretty much the biggest villain in the franchise.nobodyknows wrote:AuraTwilight wrote:Bernkastel, from Umineko no Naku Koro ni (some people count VNs as 'games', right?)
