PSPGo

Post by Gomorrah »

Hello everyone. I'm Gomorrah. I've been wanting to get a new PSP ever since .hack//Link came out. I've had my eye on the Go version for the longest, but I've heard that it's gotten some mixed to negative reviews on it. Sony recently revealed a new PSP Go pack, with three full game downloads absoultely free. The deal looked good, but I'm wondering is it worth the buy. So, should I get a PSP Go or the normal 3000 system?

If you want to be able to buy/sell/trade used games or UMD movies don't get it. Also I'm not sure of the status of custom firmware, but if you care about that you might want to look into whether or not it works on the Go. Also, compare the price of the bundle to a PSP-3000 plus a memory card and four used (who cares what they look like? if you got them for Go they'd be invisible) games you actually want. For reasons no one can understand the PSPGo is more expensive to begin with, so it might not be that good a deal.

The PSPGo compared to the PSP 3000

Negative:
Lower screen size and resolution.
Shorter battery life.
Lack of a UMD drive so you can't play games you already own.
Credit card required for online purchases of games. (even with the free game deal)
The Go doesn't have the ability to have custom firmware put on it.
PSP 3000: $169, PSPgo: $249, PS3: $299...
Placement of controls is uncomfortable.

Positive:
Bluetooth.
Can play games through your PS3 to an kind of TV via bluetooth.
16GB storage in the system itself, with addable storage using memory cards. (not the same memory card style as other PSP versions however)

PSP Go = Sony FAIL. It's done a poor job selling, simply because of the fact that you get LESS compared to the original PSP system, all for the healthy value of $50 less than a PS3. The fact that it's downloadable only really hurt the system the most because you're only limited to the PSN, and not all titles make it there. Also, if your planning on getting .hack//Link, you shouldn't buy the Go anyway, because it's UMD only for now. The lack of a UMD disc drive was the only MAJOR problem this system posessed. Not to mention, you can play UMD enabled and downloadable content on the PSP-3000 itself, at a much more reasonable price. The only difference here is the fact that you would spend nearly $80 more on just a sleeker, lighter design, and more memory, but you don't really need 16GB anyway, because believe it or not, I have so much stuff on my 4GB memory stick alone, and I still have half the amount of memory left. Final verdict?

PSP-3000 x1000> PSPGo.

The only thing the PSPgo has over the 3000 is the bluetooth. Its a downgrade in every other category, and it still costs $80 more!

And yeah, the 16GB storage is also a downgrade, because that gets filled up with games so fast you might as well have a 1GB card! So it basically says each UMD is like a 600MB card PLUS a game for the 3000, at the same price as online or even lower in stores!

Don't get it man, you'll seriously regret it. The selection of the games on the psp go vs psp 3000 is so pitiful, it'll make you cry. Currently they're 302 PSP games on the US PSN. There are so much more on UMDs. If you want to play .Hack Link, get a 3000. Like everyone else said, PSPgo only advantage really is the built in 16gb memory, bluetooth for tethering and possible controller with ps3. Anyways, wait until E3. Rumors of a PSP2, might be there.

Unless it has a 16gb HDD, a UMD drive, and folds up to keep the screen from getting scratched, I really don't care if they make a new model. They'll just severely overprice it anyway, make you chose from the 20 respectable games the PSP has, and call it a media device instead of a console.

Oh my. I had no idea the PSPgo had so many disadvantages compared to the other PSP system. D: And there are rumors regaurding to a new PSP system at E3? Hmm. Well, I guess I can wait a little longer, at least until these rumors have been confirmed after E3. Thank you all for the responses and info though. I almost wasted a huge portion of my cash for something that would not satisfy me at all.

I've yet to see any new iteration of the PSP that would justify buying something other than a PSP-3000. I've had my original PSP since the system was first released and even that has been more than enough for me up to this point. At this point the PSP-3000 is to the PSP-Go what the DS-Lite is to DSi XL.
