Playstation Move

So has anyone heard of the new add on equipment coming to the PS3 in the fall? Playstation Move? It's basically a carbon copy of the Wii's functions and capabilities. I mean seriously. Sony flat out STOLE Nintendo's blueprints. lol Here's a pic as well as a link. So, what do guys think?

Because Nintendo both invented motion control and the design for the television remote controller. I'm pretty sure most everyone has heard about this since it's been known about for over a year now. I'll be happy as long as the games that are supposed to implement this technology don't just resort to gimmicky gameplay features that attempt to force in motion control.

Not to mention this isn't even the first version, Sony had a much bulkier motion controller already out only a few months after the PS3 came out, AND it was better than the Wiimote! They even put an ad for it in Gameinformer.

It was better than the "Waggle-And-Flail-Around-Looking-Stupid" or WAFALS (pronounced waffles). It would have been an advertising nightmare.

If Nintendo can market the "Wii" then why can't Sony market the Waffle? Like seriously. I love the waffle. I love it in a very very personal way, I love it inside me and- oh, wrong waffle. Well I love that waffle less personally and sure as hell not inside me, but more than the move.

The good news though is that this one works better/differently than the Wii.

They use the PS3's usb camera to track the blue ball's motion and size to judge distance. In fact, this will be a lot more accurate than the stupid infrared stuff the Wii has because the Camera's constantly tracking your motion instead of just picking it up when you aim at it! You may not be able to point with it, but that's an unnecessary feature anyway since they have a pointer on screen and a joystick.

Personally, I don't think Sony needed to something like this, I think the PS3 was fine the way it was before. Erranty is right it seems to be better than the Wiimote function, but at the same time I agree with Advent, I don't wanna come out and say straight up that they 'STOLE' the idea from Nintendo, but it does seem like it,

On a side-note: Wasn't Microsoft planning on doing the same thing at one point as well?

Silly peoples. Sony didn't "steal" from Nintendo. They merely borrowed the idea, and made it "better" Much like how Burger King showcased their Sasuage, egg, and biscuit sandwich by showing a commercial, portraying their mascot breaking in to Mcdonald's HQ then stealing the sandwich blueprints. Nothing personal. It's just good business.

This is just a re-re-launch of the EyeToy, which predates the Wii. The only thing Sony "stole" from Nintendo is hype. Nintendo had the gameboy camera, but that was just for pictures, I think the EyeToy was the first interactive camera for a game console. It never caught on though, since it didn't have a simple, ubiquitous, single-point interface that even a chimpanzee could understand, and it wasn't branded for casual gamers. This is pretty much what they had seven years ago plus a $20 plastic wand. On the same note, it'll be interesting to see how Natal does without a $20 plastic wand. The technology is incredible but a lot of their demos sound like Eye games...

If the technology's out there, then anyone can use it - ergo, motion sensor tech. What makes or breaks the tech is how well it works, and if it's anything like people are rumoring it to be, it might well just out-do the Wiimote.

IMO, what SONY should be working on - in terms of this - is making sure that the games they release for it aren't ballsy. I'd much rather play a game similar to Red Steel than get caught up in this damn EyeToy buisness again...


Also on this topic, seeing as the Wii targetted people of all ages and prefferences... wouldn't this addition to the PS3 be doing relatively the same thing? In that sense it's also a brilliant marketting strategy for SONY to uptake.

I laughed at the commercial. Because it's true that literally EVERYONE has it. It's like starting your own burger joint and not being able to sell fries because everyone else does. It doesn't work that way.

Not everyone had motion sensing though. Originally, the PS3 SixAxis controller wasn't going to have that supposed tilt-action sensing which I hear about but have never, ever seen implemented in a game. Then Nintendo announced the Wii. That changed. It happens.

They didn't "steal" it but "inspiration theft" is a chargeable offense these days, since sometimes "being inspired by" basically means "I saw that and wanted to modify it and call it my own." You'd be surprised the number of lawsuits I heard were targeted against Nintendo early on when the Wii was released, for violating patents for products that were never made, just reserved. Whether Sony "stole" it or not, expect the same people to nail them as well, and that's even assuming Nintendo doesn't speak up.

At least Natal doesn't have a controller. The Move is basically a "Let's take exactly what control scheme Nintendo has, change the shape and color, and add more buttons!" Honestly, part of the beauty of the Wiimote is the LACK of buttons. You aren't fumbing with 8 buttons at once while swinging. Whereas Natal isn't entirely original (I've played Arcade Games with a similar technology, letting you duck and weave to avoid attacks, so we may see a few lawsuits aimed at Microsoft here) the Move IS kind of a blatant ripoff, given the controller.

But hey. Can't blame Sony for realizing "That thing we called a "shitty control gimmick is outselling us at every turn! We need to emulate this fad!" Am I right? And no I'm not an anti-Sony person, or a Nintendo/XBOX fanboy. I like all 3, and I'm pretty unbiased here. I simply don't own my own PS3 since I keep losing my job before I can afford one. I play with sis and my friends a their places though.

Eh. Sony's real problem as to why their current age system isn't obliterating the competition is "affordabilty". In all honesty, I believe most gamers prefer fun, kick ass, gameplay over graphics, at seemingly affordable prices, which probably explains why the X360 and PS3 aren't completely stomping the Wii into the dirt. Furthermore, it does seem like Sony might market new game installments that can support this new, motion sensored feature. Hopefully, the video in the link was just for showcasing the eye toy enabled games.

I still hope that we'll get to see something aside from what are effectively cloned and remastered Eyetoy games... otherwise this thing'll be one hell of a marketting sham.
