Your Favorite Genres/Which Genre you're best at?
I'm bored, and back, and so, here is the birth of a new topic:
So, what's your favorite genre, and what's your favorite games? and just for entertainment's sake, why?
Mine's ATM RPGs, I'm not as good at it as I'd like to be, but I'm getting there, and what can I say? When you got a list of games like Persona, .hack, and Final fantasy, what is there about RPGs not to love?
My Seconds gotta be fighters/sandbox, what better way to release your stress of the day than to grab a buddy and destructivly anihilate them? From Classics to Dragon Ball Z (The good old Budokai days) to Brawl, well...enough said.

I'd say that my favorite genre is RPG. Considering that my first video game ever was an RPG (Pokemon), I guess the genre's always stuck with me. After that I'd say Action/Adventure, and I'm getting better at First Person Shooters.

Re: Your Favorite Genres/Which Genre you're best at?
My favorite genre has to be Action RPG. I'm not very good at traditional RPGs in general (only FF's...i was pure fail at Xenosaga, and i'm STILL scared of ANY Shin Megami Tensei game, Persona's included 'XD), but every Action RPG i've played is a game i've completely finished and on every condition pretty much. Maybe i've played only easy ones (KH series, .Hack series, and Phantasy Star Universe)...but still....levelling up, training and gaining equipment, going through places/dungeons, fighting against bosses, solving certain puzzles, and all while i move through all the screen freely and use skills and attacks which can be combined in so many ways rather than just choosing them from a menu and see what happens? That's definetly my thing.
Other favorites have to be Fighting games, Shooting games, Survival games (Resident Evil and Silent Hill)...and...whatever genre Devil May Cry and God of War are, bloody action or something. I love playing them and have played lots of those games, and i'm also very good at them....but, here i can actually get pwned so easily and people are far superior than me. I thought i was good in Tekken, VERY good....until i reached the rank of Mentor online, and fought against players who juggled me to no end, and used attacks and combos that i NEVER thought they could be used that way; in fact, i can't even do them myself if i try it. Same with MGS4, even though i'm not bad at it...there's simply people with more practice. But still, i love those games, and i love playing them even if i get completely destroyed by others. They're that enjoyable XD

Re: Your Favorite Genres/Which Genre you're best at?
Action/Adventure Sandbox games hands-down.
Games like The Legend of Zelda, Spyro, Jak & Daxter ( TFL was a disappointment), inFamous, Assassin's Creed, etc Those are my favorites.
I also like RPGs but not as much. To be honest, the only RPG that I've played, enjoyed, and have beaten and is the ONLY RPG that I EVER play is .Hack. I play Pokemon too ( I'm a Pokemon Otaku tbh :3) But I dun really consider that RPG. I've tried a few others RPGs; Final Fantasy, Eternal Sonata on my PS3, and a few others, I didn't like them at all.
Although, Persona intrigues me. I would like to play, but I relly dun feel like playing my PS2 again.
I HATE FPS with a passion. I'm sorry FPS fans but I just can't get into those kind of games.

The Persona series is definitely worth dusting off the PS2 and playing. That and .hack// are the only games I ever play on my PS2 anymore.

It does seem interesting, but I really can't find any of the games. The only one I can find is Persona 3. And I can barely find that. And I know that Persona 1 was on the PS one.Azure Knight wrote:The Persona series is definitely worth dusting off the PS2 and playing. I'm pretty good with Action, Action-RPG, and Shooters.
Monster Hunter
Devil May Cry
Gears of War
Z.O.E.
God of War
And VERY few fighters... actually, only SoulCalibur, and preferably SC2 or 3.

I've been looking for Persona 3 for a while now, with no luck yet. Maybe I'll just get it for PSP when it comes out.Keyaki wrote:It does seem interesting, but I really can't find any of the games. The original Persona was one of many spin-offs of the Shin Megami Tensei series, but I think that P3 is the one that really gave the title the fame it has now.
Anyway, I beat Persona 4 finally a few months ago, and I usually NEVER replay games, but that one I fired up a New Save + file seconds after the ending credits.

Pokemon is totally an RPG. It has characters (or monsters) that you level up with experience by battling (other) monsters. And other stuff that qualifies it as an RPG, so yeah. :VKeyaki wrote:I play Pokemon too ( I'm a Pokemon Otaku tbh :3) But I dun really consider that RPG.
Anywho, I'm totally all about RPGs, BIG surprise. I guess I just like the style of RPGs best; the way the varying combat systems are, the storylines and characters, etc.
I guess I also like rhythm games and am pretty good at them. I can do stages on Ouendan 2's hardest mode with the invisibility on as well.

I'm still scared at how similar our tastes in games are =_='...
Also, aside from the games above, I have a passion for RPG Platformers, such as Metroid.
I also play a few FPS games.. but not many.
aside from those, I play a few fighters, and I like futuristic racing games.
*note*
I don't classify the Metroid Prime series as an FPS. There are too many elements in it which set it aside from the FPS genre, such as the screw attack, and the morph ball....

Racing. Arcade or Simulator. I'm extremely skilled at every racing game I play, weither it's Gran Turismo, Burnout, Forza, Need For Speed, or others.
My second favorite would have to be anime-oriented action RPG's. I love how the japanese go beyond fantasy and engage players into traverse worlds, slapping an awesome story with it, and allowing us to gain powers or skills that surpass the boundaries of the word epic. Some examples of this include Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and .hack.

For me I would have to say Fighting, and RPGs. I like reading opponents movement, and thinking of ways to counter in fighting games. In RPGs its fun to play the role of the characters in the game. Also there is much strategy involved.

Re: Your Favorite Genres/Which Genre you're best at?
RPGs have made up the bulk of my collection for the longest time, with versus fighters lagging not too far behind.
Though, as of lately, fighting games have been my obsession. I'm currently playing Tekken 6, DBZ Raging Blast, the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure part 3 adaptation, and Brawl[>_>].
Edit: I'll fancy a good Hack n' Slash or Mecha every now and then, too.
Edit 2: I'll list my favorite games, just cause.
.hack[shocker], Monster Hunter, Super Smash Brothers, The World Ends With You, Pokemon, Budokai, Megaman Battle Network, S.L.A.I, L4D, Armored Core
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Gundam Musou, Tekken 6, Earth defense Force 2017, Galaga(what?), Rampage(again, what?), and Oblivion.

Re: Your Favorite Genres/Which Genre you're best at?
Traditional RPG's all of the way!
But Pokemon...Hmm that's a tough one...
I'd kinda wanna say "No." While it has a level system...The storyline's kinda...non-existant...It revolves around the player, who does nothing but walk around...No supporting cast either. But that's just my opinion.

Re: Your Favorite Genres/Which Genre you're best at?
I'm seeing a lot of familiar games with different genre references than I previously expected.
I've never enjoyed racing games (unless they include weapons and screwy things like Twisted Metal, which I understand is more an action than driving game), fighting games, and up until Valkyria Chronicles I never liked console shooters (my first and favourite shooter was Half Life for the PC, and I do realize that Valkyria is more a cross-genre and not exactly an FPS). Up until PC games started becoming infested with DRM and requiring online validation I wanted to keep up with those but now I'm content waiting to find a copy of System Shock 2 and Deus Ex.
I've enjoyed RPGs for a while - Grandia 3 may have had its flaws, but it was a lot of fun. Same with Persona 3 (though I got sick of going through Tower Tartarus after 10 floors and it goes well above 200. I almost wish they'd have just made it the semi-simulation portion played outside the Dark Hour). I've played all sorts of RPGs, including tactical RPGs like Front Mission (up until they announced that Front Mission Evolved won't be tactical, and the disappointment of them failing to release Front Mission 5 outside Japan).
Action are probably my favs: Ratchet & Clank threw in some great platforming and RPG elements, and I've always enjoyed the cathartic hack-and-slash of Orochi Musou (Warriors Orochi, related to the Dynasty Warriors series that I also think is fun). I'm not sure if you'd throw Warship Gunner 2 in here, but I like its action and simple-with-complexity-offered game play. Zone of the Enders is awesome, and I'd like to get Another Century's Episode (but that one wasn't released outside Japan either).

Re: Your Favorite Genres/Which Genre you're best at?
Action RPGs for both favorite and best at (they're one of the few types of games I can play without cheating). RTS comes second, but I'm terrible at them.
And of action RPGs, my favorite is dothack, bar none. Tales games have lost a lot of esteem in my eyes, the only ones I really like anymore are the JP-only ones (Tales of Destiny 2 and Tales of Rebirth, in specific), and the old PSX ones.

let's cross the sky, to the future!
Re: Your Favorite Genres/Which Genre you're best at?
Well I suck at everything, all I can say is that my favorites are JRPGs (and in the future if FF 13 and most JRPGs of this generation are any indication I will soon say "my favorites USED TO BE").
In particular I'm fond of Megaten, FF (up to 10), Tales and a few other series.
I'm not limited the JRPGs or the RPG genre as a whole, however I don't really have much of a preference in gaming. However if there is anything I say I would avoid it's most racing games and FPS.
