Persona. A game i've never played myself because of fear that it's going to be too hard (plus i suck at traditional RPGs), and it's VERY well known among the members XDthe english name escapes me right now. but its an rpg where you summon monsters to help you fight, the big difference is how you summon them....you shoot yourself in the head with a pistol O_O

Re: RPG for PS2 suggestions
you should at least try persona 3 FES.
thats the only one ive ever played and even though i never had the chance to beat it i loved it.
it is a lil hard but to me its worth the money. if you get the FES version then you get a whole new game mode for it as well as the original.
is there anything you can suggest??

EDIT: Totally missed the PS2 part in the title there... whoops. Well... just ignore this post then, I guess.

Skies of Arcadia Legends for the GameCube. A port from the Skies of Arcadia Dreamcast game, it's possibly one of my favorite games period, let alone RPGs. The turn-based fighting system is very simple so you think it might get boring, but it's just incredibly fun to play. The story and characters are typical, but they're not angsty in the slightest, so if you need a break from any of that then SoA would be perfect for you.

Don't forget Persona 4, too. That and FFXII are really all the RPGs I have for PS2.

In no particular order:
Star Ocean 3
Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories
Dark Cloud 1 and 2
Radiata Stories
Phantasy Star Universe
I would have named more but zerokoolpsx beat me to the punch.

Re: RPG for PS2 suggestions
Speaking of Shin Megami Tensei, did you know the entire series already amounts to about 61 games?
Yeah, that's a lot of games for a series.
As for a recommendation I could suggest Okage: Shadow King. Despite being a little off on certain aspects, it's funny yet predictable story. I'm pretty sure GTA: Vice City isn't an RPG, though I would recommend it despite that.

Re: RPG for PS2 suggestions
Supposedly Sakura Wars V is coming out soon. America was first promised this game in 2002. It's more or less the longest-running PS2 localization that I've ever heard of. I'd highly recommend it. Don't let the V throw you, of all the SakuTai games it's probably the best modern entry point, since it features the latest improvements in the games' engines, and an entirely new cast and locale. It's a little more on the tactics side, but it's very unique, and features among other things 3d aerial combat. In a tactics rpg. It's also being ported to the Wii, but it was originally designed for PS2 and I can't see it not working better with a Dualshock2.

Re: RPG for PS2 suggestions
I think there's only like 50 games; but we have to keep in mind that some are for other system consoles and were never released outside Japan. If you want a list of the ones that were released for PS2, the list is definitely shorter. Unless of course, Hellbawoshipper was actually refering to Atlus in general, but I doubt it.TheEnigma wrote:Are you sure you aren't including remakes or anything?Helbaworshipper wrote:Speaking of Shin Megami Tensei, did you know the entire series already amounts to about 61 games?
Yeah, that's a lot of games for a series.
The ones that I can name you are:
Nocturne / Lucifer's Call (EU)
Devil Summoner 1
Devil Summoner 2
Persona 3 and FES
Persona 4
Digital Devil Saga 1
Dgitial Devil Saga 2
which are definitely good games, and there are obviously more, but they are for other consoles.

Re: RPG for PS2 suggestions
It is indeed coming out soon via NISA. It'll be a 2-disc version, as the Japanese audio couldn't be fit into one disc so there'll be English audio on one, and Japanese on the other.Kuukai wrote:Supposedly Sakura Wars V is coming out soon. Wow, they're really going crazy with this. I hope it works out. Too bad the series as a whole seems dead in the water... Red Company could learn something from NISA's industriousness.
