Play Magazine has given Vol.3 a 9!

In the latest issue (September 2007, page 75), .hack//G.U. Vol.3//Redemption was given a 9/10. The only thing that kept the reviewer from giving it a 10 was "dungeon crawling"...basically, he felt the dungeons were a chore at times to do, which they can be, I agree.

"I can honestly say that .hack//G.U. is the most well plotted RPG I've ever played, which is remarkable considering it has had to sustain its momentum over the course of three completely disparate games as well as any number of ancillary works. Imagine how difficult this must have been: .hack//GU is a massive multimedia project, spanning not only games but anime, magna, and novels."

Interesting screenies: Looks like you fight Antares...again, Haseo's Data Drain Level 2, the forest ruins dungeon, and the new "Arachnophobia" monster.

AND there's a cool ad for the final game, with Ovan smiling all evil like in the background.

All in all, an honestly fair review.

Its not a fair review, .hack doesent deserve a 9. Play Magazine always gives high scores.

Eh,generous people.I dont think that .hack is on par with greats like God of War,Halo and Kingdom Hearts.Hell,might even be a typo and thats supposed to be a 7.

It's based on Play Magazine's collective opinion, so your opinion on their opinion = oxymoron. Play magazine was the only media outlet in the U.S. that even gave a lick about the series. They even had a cover story for Rebirth. Forever props to them!

it's just another shooter with a back-story made so you don't complain

Yeah, totally! All shooters are about the same... Just differences in the graphics.

ON TOPIC: There really aren't many magazines that will bother with these games. I really hope it lives up to the 9/10! =D

See, now here's the fun part about your post, I have the exact same opinion, only about Kingdom Hearts and God of war (Mostly KH, God of War didn't do anything for me.)

Kingdom hearts is, in my opinion, a pile of crap. But see, you don't need to point these things out, because they don't contribute to the actual thread, and just start flame wars.

As for the thread, wow. That's intresting, didn't think it was possible.

In my opinion reviews are rarely ever helpful, people will either give a number rating or describe how they liked/disliked the game when it shouldn't be about how THEY themselves liked it.

What I mean is the only time a review would be good is if the person took themselves out of the equation which is VERY hard to do. You need to discard your feelings for the game and rate it based on factors like music, graphics, gameplay, originality... some things likes story and plot are difficult since that's where people go wrong, it's the most difficult part to judge since it's about what you like/dislike. Some love a deep twisting plot, others don't and they will rate accordingly.

My example would be .hack//G.U. vol.1 for a start. As a person that likes .hack and it's series, I'd give it a 4 out of 5 but if I was to take a step back and judge it based on factors like originality, graphics...ect then I'd give it a 3 out of 5, an average rating. You also have to based a game off it's past installments if it's a series. It did improve on the past 4 .hack games but was a little bit the same, cut scenes were nice but in game graphics were pretty average and then there's the fact it was still the same dungeons with repeating design and there was only 3 types of dungeons in vol. 1 if I recall.

In short, reviews don't help at all, ratings are easily given but rarely explained.

it's good it's got a good review though I hope that they got rid of some of the annoying side mission and don't repeat the same old ones like vol 2. I'll wait and see what Gamepro has to say or at least see what Shonen Jump does. They usual bash the game but give it a decent grade.

well, usually i dont care for reviews because their not really based on how a normal player would rate a game. but i guess its a good that it got 9/10
