Wait.
You can buy the books? Those are the ones that raise your stats, right? I thought you could only get them by completing quests.
I also thought you can only trade for them, were can you get them? or future re

The only ones I've seen for trade are the Beginner's Text and the Beginner's [something else, I forgot].
But you can buy/trade fo the scrolls that let you learn spells and stuff.

Corporal Yano is also good for them, and I tend to see him more than Haneko, oddly.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you don't. This is part of what they meant when they said they'd vary the gameplay more between the games. Kinda makes it look like they have no attention span though... "Ooo, shiny new rule, let's change stuff!"

I think its more a storyline thing. You were a virtual unknown in Vol.1 arena wise and had to work you're way up. Now that you are the champion (and have another one with you) you can jump right into the matches cause you've already proven yourself. Even the announcers act differently. In vol.1 you were considered the underdog, by them but Vol.2-3 you're already highly favored to at least go up against the champion before you even do anything. They even try to fool you with some of things that happened in Vol.1's tournament only to have a different result this time.
The one thing them seemed to change was that Haseo's members can change around in Vol.2 tournament but not Vol.1 or Vol.3.
