You'd be surprised. Look hard enough and there is good rap music. Not just the crap you hear on the radio.SnowManZero wrote:give me most anything, except for rap and country.

J-rock i like, normal rock i like, heavy metal i like and gothic stuff i like.
My beef with country is that to me it sounds whiny and it's usually about the same things over and over again (much like the majority of mass media rap).

I never really used to consider rap to be music, but then my friend had me listen to some of the stuff that Gorillaz does... Even though I can't understand a word anyone's saying when they get to the...well, throughout just about every song, I'm starting to think that there IS some good rap out there. (Just not much.)
Hm. I wish I knew what genre I like. o_o; I like just about every single track on Liminality's CD, so I guess I like instrumental? I also like Celtic music. Some jazz pieces are okay...and I can dig pop if it's in a foreign language with fairly good lyrics and a non-generic sound. Rock's okay, and the only reason I like Evanescence is because Amy Lee's voice is very pretty (not because of the lyrics or anything).

I like most of it but I chose the second punk rock. Anyway I really do love country...How can you not love Trace Adkins Honkytonk Badonkadonk?

This poll should've only had 1 class for rock. I listen to a little of all 3 branches listed there and I like them just as equally. But, seeing that I can only vote once, I picked the Greenday option (forgot what it's listed as) only because I have more of their CD's than any other artist in other classifications and there's hardly a Greenday song that I can't tolerate.

Actually the Gorillaz are Trip-Hop which is a blend of spaced out (normally indie rock-ish) guitars, with hip hop sensebilities, some dub and reggae influenced beats, and electronica. For the record on the song "Clint Eastwood" there is rapping, quite a bit actually, done by the one and only underground rapper Del the Funkee Homosapien aka Deltron 3030 (Check out all his stuff its awesome, as Del he raps about lazy friends and videogames and with his Deltron persona he envisions a post apocalyptic world where he will hack into mass media and cause destruction, its hilarious and great.)
Also if we are going to get technical Alternative Rock isn't really a genre, that is just something that corporate people put on the majority of Gen X and later music, aka not the classic rock shizzle like Boston or White Snake. The only bands I've ever heard of that would enjoy being called Alternative would be Creed or Nickleback (crap music).
My favorite types of music are Rock, Hip Hop, and Electronica. But it also goes more into those genres such as for Rock-
Dreampop (like My Bloody Valentine)
Hardcore- (Like Will Haven or Hopesfall)
Noisecore- (The Locust)
Indie- (Built to Spill, Pavement)
Trip Hop- (But with more rock overtones like Teamsleep)
For Electronica-
Trip-hop (The more electronic groups like Archive and Massive Attack -early stuff)
Ragga- (Reggae influenced Drum and Bass)
Drum and Bass- (Great beats with heavy bass and some more Dance influenced vocals etc)
Breakbeat- (Crazy frantic drums with horror influences usually.)
Ambient- (Really spacey chill out stuff like Virus)
Dub- (Reggae influenced beats minus the jamacan singing)
Hip-Hop (Rap)- It seems to me that they don't focus on genre labels but my favs are- Deltron aka Del, Talib Kwali, Mos-Def, Kanye West, Wu-Tang Clan, 3-6 Mafia, I respect Jay-Z, Buck 65, MF Doom, and stuff in that vain.
But mainly I like almost every kind of music because I am a music lover and I try to find beauty in everything. There are so many different types of music out there so don't get stuck on genres and don't listen to mainstream radio, it'll just brainwash you.
(Also Rap doesn't have to have programmed (electronic) beats, just check out The roots, they have hip-hop vocals over real bass, drums, and guitars, which they all play themselves.)
