Afterthoughts: .hack//infection.mutation.outbreak.quarentine
Well, now that the series is over and done with, what did you think of it? Was it all that it was hyped up to be, less or more? Post your final thoughts about the .hack game series here!

Yeah, its originality is what made it great. Even though the games had problems, the story, characters, and originality made it well worth it. I liked it very much, and I do think it was what it was hyped up to be.

Yeah, I got the same reaction out of this that I have gotten out of the greatest anime series I have ever seen, which means it F****** PWN3D. So, yeah, I loved the games, their concept, and everything. The only complaint I have is a weakness in the final phase bosses; given I have NEVER had a game over while fighting a phase boss, I thought I was due here at the end. Alas, I wasn't, and found Corbinik 3 a little too easy... but **** happens and then you die. In any case, this is far from begin anything to affect anything, and therefore, I thought this was an excellent game.

well, having just beat Quarantine, I can now voice my opinion here...
and let me just say that this was one of the most exciting game series i've ever played. the main plot is incredibly original, and it gets you thinking because who knows? these things may all happen someday in the future. the characters are well-designed, and it's very easy to lose yourself in their stories and feel tied to them. the gameplay itself, i thought it rocked although i know there were many who didn't like it. i've always liked that style of battle system though, it reminds me a bit of Kingdom Hearts.
what else... the ending... left something to be desired, but the events immediately after (reuniting with Orca, getting back the Book of the Twilight~Daybreak, etc.) made up for it, in my opinion.
Oh, another thing I REALLY loved was the tie-ins to SIGN. obviously they were inevitable because it's the same series, but they could've done it and had it not fit in to the whole game properly. but they actually made them flow well with the rest of the game!
anyways, yeah... enough of my long-windedness. we all know these games rocked.

.hack is a pretty nice rpg game, but no offense to people that loves this game, it's the worst rpg game i've ever played. The graphics are very disappointing and the worst thing of all is the battle system. It's good to have free movement and not turn based but when you use a skill or item, the menu pops up and everything freeze. They should make it like kingdom hearts where the enemies doesn't wait for you to use a skill or items.
The Max series is possible, it's only impossible if you suck.
I find myself torn over whether I loved .hack or hated it. You see, I'm a very great fan of anime/games that make me think, which .hack no doubt does. The tie ins between .hack//SIGN, Liminality, and the game are countless and intriguing, yet at the same time it leaves me wanting for more. Things were never quite explained to the extent which I would have liked. I understand everything that happened, don't get me wrong, but the ending didn't quite sit right with me. Everyone just suddenly comes out of the coma? Aura is just suddenly born and yet sacrifices herself at the same time? And somehow she continues to live on? And what EXACTLY is the benefit of giving birth to Aura? The series has little to no closure.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the game and the anime. It was very original and quite brilliant in execution. Things just never clicked quite like I expected in the end. I was expecting some grand realization, much to the degree of some of the ones I had while playing the game/watching the anime. When I finally figured out the whole deal with Harald and Emma, and what, exactly, Aura was, I said to myself "OMG THAT'S SO FECKIN COOL!" I was expecting a similar epiphany at the end of the game, but never got it.
On another note, I couldn't STAND the inconsistancy between the end of the .hack//QUARANTINE and .hack//SIGN. If you're going to bring Tsukasa and Subara back into the series, do it consistantly with the anime. They just woke up in Net Slum? Come on now. You can do better than that, Bandai.
In addition, I was slightly dissapointed that Omega server was still Net Slum after I beat the game. I was almost CERTAIN that when I received the email saying I could play the world in it's "intended form," I would get to play in the REAL Lia Fail. But alas, I was not.
Which brings me to one last area of dissapointment: the whole Macha/Mia/Maha thing. [/spoiler What exactly were they trying to insinuate with that? Were Maha and Mia the same character all along? Is there a real player playing Mia somewhere? And does that mean that there's a real player playing Maha somewhere? Or was Maha the thing that was trying to prevent the rebirth of Mia, much like Maha was trying to prevent the birth of Aura in the first place? That bit was just a bit too vague in my opinion.

Over all I thought that the series was excellent. While it did have some flaws(I won't go into them, the've already been discussed.) It's unique story line and over all game play more than made up for it. It had a great flow with between the series, Liminality and the game. It all connected very well and really helped to get in depth into what was happening in the game story and the series. The entire background info for the history of the viruses and about how ALTIMIT came to be was at once futuristic but also eerily possible in the very near future. Over all a job well done by the creators. Kudos to them.

It was destroyed in the beginning. They would have to recreate the entire server.Telos wrote: was still Net Slum after I beat the game. I was almost CERTAIN that when I received the email saying I could play the world in it's "intended form," I would get to play in the REAL Lia Fail.
Overall in the games, I really wish that they had Beetrain do the cutscenes.[/spoiler]
