Beginners' texts necessary before volume 2 to 100% the game?

A bunch of places say you should get a ton of beginners' texts before starting volume 2. Is this necessary if you want to 100% the game?

I currently have dual swords level 7 and broad level 10.

What's the best way to level these up manually in volume 2? And does it take forever to get them to max?

You level weapon skills by doing Rengeki and Hangeki, the texts just make it easier. I'd say get everything to 10 in Volume 1 so you can at least have four skill triggers for each weapon. It's not required, but it doesn't hurt to bring some leftover texts with you into Volume 2.
