.hack's story is too serious most of the time and she provides much needed comic relief, albeit not being one of the "main" characters.

Haseo - He has pretty cool character development and is an overall cool character.
Gardenia - I dunno why, but I really really like her.

Mine is Haseo the "Terror of Death" as you can see. Though Haseo and Sora(.hack//Sign) are one of the same.

There really are a lot of characters to choose from... I don't know why but I just like Crim.

If I placed it in the more recent characters then I'd put my hands off to.... Zelkova

Lots of great characters throughout all of .hack media, hmm...., I would say Midori probably. I really dig the new Tokio design, the one that uses his fists rather than blades, but he's not really explained. The young Tokio from //link is not appealing to me in any way, so I don't wanna choose the older version of him since I would believe they have the same personality, which I don't like. So if you go by looks I would lean towards the badass grown up Tokio, but assuming his character is still the same, then I would stick with Midori
