A Certain Genre of RPG

Post by Kaori »

Anybody here familiar with the "Modern" RPG? I'm not talking about just cities, I'm talking about ones with a setting almost identical to our own, no dungeons and dragons, no paranormal or space crap, it's not always about being some chosen hero or grand adventures about saving the world, because so far I've only come across two, the Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki games, and the Persona series, so here I am asking if there is ANYBODY out there who is into it or knows any games similar.

Modern RPGs?... Let me see if I get it; you're talking about real modern life-like RPGs? Such as Devil Summoner? If it is: then I'm into it... Please can you explain a bit more?

there's paranormal in it, so no, devil summoner is not a modern RPG, and it's all there, I don't have to explain anything else.

Ouch >.< Didn't remember.... Well as for your description... I don't know if it falls into the "rpg" area but "Steambot Chronicles" fits the description... Don't know if you will like it though

Robot's Don't count! Judging from the games you play besides persona, none of them are modern RPG's, when you get a PSP, try Zero no Kiseki, then you'll know what I'm talking about.

I would start suggesting but I'm confused too. You don't like paranormal and dungeon crawling, yet you listed Persona?

doesn't seem paranormal to me, seems to lean more on psychological, and there's no such thing as dungeon crawling in the modern world now is there?, the "dungeons" in 4 don't seem to be random so I wouldn't call it dungeon crawling, I don't mind the "paranormal" in it since it leans more to realism than fantasy, what I'm saying is, RPG games that are neither too fantastic or sci-fi, something hard.
Assuming it counts as an RPG, then maybe: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Wikipedia wrote:A dungeon crawl is a type of scenario in fantasy role-playing games in which heroes navigate a labyrinthine environment, battling various monsters, and looting any treasure they may find.
Sounds like Persona to me, lol. While the game does have its share of psychology, their powers are purely magical or paranormal.
In any case, I recommend Valkyria Chronicles. It's a cross between RPG and RTS.

I have 1-3 any other recommendations?

The kiseki series isn't modern at all but it has slice-of-life elements in it if that's what you're referring too.

The only series that I can think of aside from the kiseki series would be the recent persona games. You could also try games like the fable series, level 5's new game fantasy life is a mix between animal crossing with rpg elements. It's not out yet but it's been hinted at for a us release. There's also the harvest moon series but the rune factory series might be more what you're looking for. Hope this all helps.
