Fan made 2d rpg?

Post by HISTORY »

So when I was in tech school bored, me and another airman made a 2d RPG game and it was fun! Recently I wanted to do a fan made 2d RPG of .hack. But i would really enjoy a team!

So my plan is either -

create a 2d remake of the .hack series for ps2. Something quick and fun to play.

or -

create a 2d .hack inspired game.

I dont know guys any ideas?!?

By remake for the PS2 you mean develop a homebrew ISO rom file for people to download and play via a PS2 emulator? In any case, there are many attempts both successful and deceased games based on .hack// both in 2D and 3D forms now made by fans. Be interesting to see what you create.

A while back there was an online 2D .hack RPG that was made by a couple of fans, but it seems to have died off a while ago. I tried it out, and for what it was it was pretty good. Only a few levels were fully designed, Bursting Passed Over Aqua Field being one of them, and there wasn't any real depth to the combat system for it. I'd love to see a revival of it or a 3D version of it some day, but the problem usually comes down to who is willing to work on it.

I personally am getting into game design, but I have little to no programming experience yet. I think I might buy the latest version of RPG Maker (a bunch of indie 2D games like "To the Moon" are being made with RPG maker) and mess around with it, but it does take time to learn the ropes. I'm also currently going through animation courses, which are built upon Flash and Maya, at my college and over the next 2 years I'll probably become a decent animator by then. I don't have too many suggestions as to what you can do with this project you're thinking about undertaking, but I'd suggest you make a game based off of .hack instead of a remake because you can apply your own approach to it and not strictly follow what the original games did. Hope you project goes well and keep us up to date if you can on your progress.

I dont know how the pokemon mmo does it ,but it uses the rom and a client to launch a program. And basicly everyone is playing pokemon red at the same time.( http://pokemmo.eu/downloads/ )

If you can do that with the dot hack games, that would be amazing.
I take pride on making things my own...
