The path to be a hero

"I suppose I could show you the little bit of town we didn't get covered tonight at another time. I mean, it's not really fair for you to go into things with a disadvantage like that, after all..." She finally slipped her arm out of his and reached up, lightly kissing his cheek before reaching for the door. "I never said it was just your powers, by the way," she whispered as she pulled back, a smile bright on her face. "I'll see you later, Romeo..." she called before walking inside, closing the door behind her. She made her way to her room immediately, pulling the mask off of her face as she did. When she was inside, she closed the door and leaned against it, dropping the mask to the floor and covering her face with her hands. "What am I doing?..."

"Have fun?" a male voice called from the darkness. Mariah jumped, her gaze immediately finding a shape in the shadows that didn't belong in her room.

"Damien? What are you doing here?" she asked, confusion and a little bit of fear thick in her tone. He stepped into the light provided from the window and smiled, tracing the back of his hand down her cheek gently.

"I just thought I would stop by and see if you found out anything interesting on your little moonlit stroll home, my dear. You didn't seem to know anything of interest at the party, but after you spent that much time around everyone at the party I thought you might now. Am I wrong?"

"Um, no.. Not really.." she replied, her gaze falling to her feet. "I should have expected he would be after me after tonight..."

"Then talk," he almost growled, his expression horrifying. She explained a few things that she had learned from the party and as soon as she was done, he left. She locked the door behind him and slid down it to the floor, pulling her knees up into her chest.

Alex: ( he walks back toget his bike as he removes the mad and he heads back to his apartment as soon as he stePs inside he somehow manages to make it to his his bedroom as he gets dressed quickly and passes out)

---- the next morning

Alex: ( he gets up as he begins to work out and once he finished he showers and he gets dressed into the clothes he has on in his app pic and he places in a contact lens that changes his amber colored eye so it maybes his other as to not reveal his identity and he places dog tags around his neck as he places his watch on his neck) allriight I guess it's time to take a stroll around the city then I might as well grab some breakfast ( he grabs his keys and wallet as he walks outside)

Mariah awoke the following morning still laying against the door in her formal wear. She took her shoes off and walked into her bedroom, changing into another, less formal, dress. It was dark blue in color and fell to her knees, the sleeves falling off of her shoulders slightly. She stepped into a pair of matching flats and looked into the mirror. Her makeup had remained unsmeared from the night before, although the lipstick was all but faded away. She didn't normally wear it anyway so she wiped it away and turned, exiting the room and the apartment.

"I need to get out for a little while. Maybe if I'm lucky another round of the games will begin while I'm out..." she thought with a sigh. She headed toward the town's central area with no plan in mind except to try to get some time to herself.

Alex: no matter how much I look this city is still gigantic ( he try's to act casually but it's clear he's looking around and especially up into the sky at the tall buildings as he makes his way to the central area) I'm really hungry ( he looks around at the local Places to eat as he settles for A normal looking diner as he walks towards it) I can't believe I skipped on the dinner last night

A fair amount of people were out already, but it was nowhere as crowded as it would be a little later in the day. Mariah blocked all of the thoughts she could read, giving herself a little mental peace, and made her way to her favorite diner. She took a seat at one of the outside tables and was immediately greeted with a cup of coffee and a giant cinnamon roll. The waiter tried to talk to her casually, as usual, but today she wasn't feeling up to it. She apologized for not being enthusiastic and he left her alone. She took a sip of coffee and rested her forehead in the palm of her hand, propping herself above the table. "It's getting more and more difficult to make him happy with me, and he still hasn't kept any part of his deal... But if I stop, there's no way I'll get what was promised to me..." She closed her eyes and sighed, completely ignoring her surroundings.

Alex: ( he manages to sit on a table) psst hey ( he motions to Mariah) hey Uhh sorry you look really tired I was just wondering what's good here? Ive never eaten here it just seems like im havin trouble deciding what to order ( he laughs as he scratches his head as his dog tags come out from under his shirt) so any suggestions?

Mariah looked up to see who was talking to her and noticed a semi-familiar face. He looked different dressed casually, and she noticed that something else about his face was off other than the fact that she could finally see it all. His eyes, she noticed, although she wasn't sure if it was just her busy mind playing a trick on her or not. Could it really be him, or was she just imagining it?

He continued speaking and his voice was all she needed to know without a doubt who was sitting before her. Whether or not he recognized her, though, she couldn't tell, and she didn't feel like reopening her mind to see. She smiled softly and sat up, laying her hand on the table as she did. "This is probably one of the best places in town, so everything is great. I assumed you would know that after your little tour last night, Romeo," she replied with a light giggle.

Alex: oh really everything in this towns good huh? Is that so hmm but still its hard for me to decide what to order...( the waiter comes by) oh okay thanks ma'am that was a lot of help ( he turns to the waiter as he orders his meal).....wait Romeo....Romeo...??!!?? ( he slowly turns to look at her) no way...

Mariah couldn't help it. She burst into a fit of laughter at his reaction, covering the lower half of her face with her hand. When she calmed down she looked back at Alex and smiled wider. "I'm starting to feel like you're the one that's interested in me. What's next? Will you be standing under my balcony professing your feelings by sonnet?" she asked with yet another laugh. "This is just too ironic. At least I know I'm not hallucinating, though, I suppose... Let's just hope that he's the only surprise guest I get today.."

"Since you're already here, you might as well join me for breakfast. Come," she called softly , pointing at the chair across the table from her.

Alex: ( he sits down across from her as he puts his dog tags under his shirt trying to avoid a discussion about the m) well if you truely insist sure I'll join you oh confession under balcony sounds romantic but I'm no one to copy others especially from a old book besides how do I know your not following me after all you were the one who showed me this place last night ( he smiles at her as he laughs slightly) you find my reaction to you funny huh...great now someone allready knows my secret identity...and who knows maybe I am interested in you( he smiles as her as he takes a sip of water)

"You make a good point, and I do admire originality in men, but I'm not so enamored with you that I'm at the point of following you around just yet, Romeo. Continue to play your cards right, however, and that could easily change..." she teased with a wink. She noticed that he seemed a little overly concerned about keeping his identity a secret, more so than she ever had anyway, but then again, she didn't really have too much of an identity. Her identity was essentially whatever she wanted it to be up until a few years ago.

"Anyway, you don't need to worry about your identity around me. Despite my willingness to help you out last night, I don't typically go around offering to expose everyone's strengths and weaknesses to just anyone. Promise. If it makes you feel more comfortable, however, you know a lot more about me than many of the other heroes that have been here way longer than you do. You know where I live for one, and I might even give you my first name if you ask nicely enough."

Alex: if I play my cards right? Huh wow then I'll take those odds( he grins at her playfully) oh that'd be Certaintly nice if I finally know the name of the woman who has been so willing to help me out ( he looks at the water) Alex....that's my first name now then please beautiful miss psyren may you grant this poor soul the gift of learning your name? Or how about if I guess right you agree to doing something I ask? So I do feel pretty special of I know more about you than the others looks like my luck is looking up

"Alex... I like that. It fits you well," Mariah said, sitting her coffee cup back on the table. "I suppose I can call you by that name instead of Romeo from now on... Unless of course you prefer the later of the two?" A light laugh followed her question, but she looked him in the eyes as she fell silent once more. "Since you did ask so nicely, I suppose it's my turn, hmm?" She paused for a moment as if teasing him once again, taking another sip of her coffee in the process. "My name is Mariah," she finally answered. "But you can call me Miri for short if you like."

Alex: Miri.... ( he smiles to himself)..I like Ot it's cute it definately fits you well and as a special treat i'll let call me whatever it is you wish to ( he looks her in the eyes) you know I didn't notice last might but your eyes are really pretty ( he laughs as he begins to tease her back from earlier) so then how frequent is the crime rate in this city? And don't forget you still have to show me rest of the city sometime

His attempts at teasing her only caused her smile to widen. It was cute that he was trying so hard to get her back, but she would have to be careful about that after he pulled a reaction from her so easily last night. "I haven't been called 'Miri' since..." She immediately cut off that thought and managed to keep a smile bright on her face, mentally focusing on coming up with an answer to his question.

"The crime rate is... Well, it varies from time to time, but all in all it's pretty high. The games are the cause, naturally: Everyone wants to get their fifteen minutes and try to take out a few heroes after all. If you're still as interested in the title of King as you were last night, it probably wouldn't hurt to walk on pins and needles and expect some kind of rogue to appear at any given time. It's a sad truth, but a truth none the less...As for finishing up your tour, however, I don't mind finishing it after you eat if you're free."

Alex: yeah if you wouldn't mind of course (as soon as the food arrives he begins to eat it and once he finishes he sits back) really at any moment rogues can show up And challenge heroes it's strange isn't it why did power users like us choose to become heroes while others choose use their powers for evil deeds anyway and regarding your statement earlier don't think it was just talk like I said I will be the next king of heroes that's a promise Miri

"Of course, Alex, don't take me wrong. I believe you when you say it, and as I said last night, I hope that you do with every fiber of my being. I just want you to be careful if you're going to get involved in the politics of the title. It takes a lot to get there, and most of it sadly doesn't even involve fighting the rogues... Sometimes those that call themselves heroes can be more vicious than those that don't..." Her gaze fell to her cup on the table below her as she spoke. It was obvious that she was deep in thought, but she quickly snapped out of it.

"Um, I'm sorry. I didn't sleep well last night, so I'm still half asleep," she replied with a soft giggle, though she still kept her gaze from meeting his. "Just be careful, Alex. That's all I can really say. I'm going to be cheering you on from the sidelines, but be careful."

Alex: ( he looks as he notices her acting Abit strangely) well as a hero it doesn't matter who is on my way hero or not of their vicious and use their powers for their own gain and for evil deeds is someone who is vicious does t have the right to call themselves a hero i'll let you in on a secret the reason I have reason to become the king for more then just the title but in lighter news I've finally believe I've thought up a hero name

"That's a good way to look at things," she replied with a gentle smile. "Snap out of it! Now is not the time for a pity party, Mariah..." Her expression returned to normal and she stood, taking his hand in her own to pull him out of his seat. She wrapped both hands around his gently and winked, pulling at his arm softly. "I would love to hear your name, but we do have a little bit of a tour to finish too, don't we? Let's get started and you can tell me as we walk."

The waiter that had came out for her reappeared with a light bow. "Shall I add this to your tab, ma'am?" Mariah nodded, but kept her attention on Alex. "Add both, if you don't mind, Richard." It was his turn to nod and he left them alone.

Alex( her suddenly grabbing him caught him off guard as he looked away when she winked at him but he looks back at her as he regains his composure as they continue walking) wow so you eat her a lot I suppose? Anyway so where are we going to first or should I just be surprised and who knows Maybe I'll start using the name Zet or Zetman or maybe wild cross..what do you think hero name worthy? And I kinda feel bad I'll pay you back for the food sometime
