Hyperdimension Neptunia

Post by Kaori »

a rather quirky RPG I just bought, apparently its about four goddess's who fight each other for supremacy in a world called gameindustri, I cant help but notice their similarities to certain consoles.....

The battle system is turned based but the combo system it makes use of is reminiscent of an old school RPG I played, Xenogears.

MOE anime characters fighting over which console's the best? Sounds like it was geared for Otaku.

And just to illustrate a difference here, Otaku are what I consider Type B anime fans. They like K-ON, Harem anime, and just anime without serious plot in general. Usually characterized by oddly proportioned girls with overly cute faces and large eyes and often dominated by a mostly female cast.

Type A anime fans prefer serious plots, high quality artwork, engaging storylines, and the characters are usually normal proportioned. Good examples of Type A anime are Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Darker than Black, The Big O, Code Geass, Last Exile, RahXephon, Casshern SINS, and most Gundam series.

Though there are exceptions to these like "Burst Angel" and "Toradora!" which are actually the opposite of what they appear to be.

Burst Angel is dominated by a 4 female - 1 male main cast, skimpy outfits, exaggerated bust lines, and a weak male lead (if you can even call him a lead). The main females are Meg and Jo. Meg was a street orphan, she happened upon Jo who was actually a humanoid bio-weapon (little personality, constantly serious, like a Type A). Despite all this, the main plot can be gathered through roughly 6 of the 26 episodes, the rest are filler garbage. Despite all this, 2 of the main female characters commit pointless suicide at the end, the Meg (the klutz with no skill who always gets caught like Daphne from Scooby Doo) decides to fill the shoes of Jo, the bio-weapon... My guess is she got killed on her first job and that's why there wasn't another season. The distinct reason I call it a type B? It has a "sexy swimsuits at the beach" episode, the quickest way to tell the difference between A and B ever.

Toradora! is your typical High School romance, but it has so many twists, is incredibly well written, and makes a point of leaving their characters looking distinct but average (like most Type A animes do). Its beach episode doesn't have any frolicking in the water but is instead a major plot turning point where our main protagonist gets gently shot down through metaphors by the girl he's been after. Some time after which he starts noticing his "real" feelings for the short, violent little loli girl who was helping him try to get his crush the whole time. Dramatic meaningful events follow throughout the rest of the series giving the characters an ocean worth of depth and providing a truly engaging storyline.

hey I like K-ON, besides a little lightheartedness never hurts, besides the combat system is what got me, turn based combo like xenogears.

It's for PS3. Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2, the sequel just came out a few months ago in Japan too. Yep the colors of the girls correlate to the consoles obviously.

I platinumed Hyperdimension Neptunia! I'll admit its not the greatest game in the world, but i still really liked it. I preordered the Gamindustri Saviour Edition of mk2(have to go to nisa's store to buy), which'll be out in just a couple weeks! (: I'm looking forward to the the new main character, Nepgear, since my only real problem with Neptune is that un-transformed she looks like a 12 year old :( and Nepgear, even though she's Neptune's younger sister, looks much older.

Well, yeah, you'll be in lastation for the majority of the game actually(well, 50%, which is more than you'll be in Lowee, Leanbox or Planeptune) (: and no i'm not that skilled at HDN at all lol i didnt even get any of my characters to level 99. I think my highest level character was only level 89 or 90. The story's amazing but after that, if you want to get the other goddesses and all the events for the trophies you have to learn about the frustrating system called 'shares' that the game doesnt explain at all. bleh

Actually, there is no preorder bonus for the standard edition. You only get bonus stuff if you get the special edition, which they call the Gamindustri Saviour Set. It has a premium box, the game(of course), a hardcover artbook, OST, and neptunia mk2 playing cards. I heard that there might be another secret bonus in it, but i wouldnt count on it. If you want to look at it yourself, here's the link: http://store.nisamerica.com/Games/Neptu ... remium-Box
