Square Enix has a new MMO coming

Post by Rhapsody »

Square Enix chief Yoichi Wada says the company has another massively multiplayer online game scheduled to be announced during its current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2012.

According to a new investor transcript, translated by Andriasang, Square Enix wants to operate two to three large-scale MMO titles simultaneously in hopes of maintaining a stable cash flow.

The company currently operates Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV, and co-publishes the free-to-play MMO title Wakfu. No word if this new MMO project is related to Final Fantasy or what platforms it will launch on.

Seriously...how about they finish FFXIV? And release it on PS3 like they were supposed to.

I just wonder if it will be action or another ATB grinder.

I'd take Kingdom Hearts Online or Chrono Online. Both would make very interesting online games with lots of worlds to visit. KHO would have to have a it's traditional fast pace action combat. Chrono Online would most likely be a grindfest. But I'd take either one and love it long time.

I'd prefer chrono crusade over that perverted thing called kingdom hearts, I dont give a damn about the action in KH because the disney and ff crossovers left a sour taste in my mouth, I want another chrono crusade game.

I'm almost sure she meant the Chrono Trigger/Cross series, not Chrono Crusade D: Chrono Crusade is that one anime with the nun and the demon. And i don't think there's a videogame of that one, in fact o-O; Maybe some random Visual Novel at most.

yeah, Chrono Trigger series for sure ^_^ I recently played through Radical Dreamers for the first time and it's left me wanting more from the series. I'm sure Squeenix has run into the same issue with the series that they did with the Xeno games. There aren't enough employees from the Chrono series still around to carry on the vision. Most have probably moved on.

As for Kingdom Hearts...Disney seems to be making a big run at the gaming market these days. I know Epic Mickey came out this past year to good reviews, and now they have some Little Big Planet rip off game coming called Disney Universe. Maybe they don't want to lend out their characters and worlds anymore. Although, I think theres a 3DS game coming. Maybe Square can't figure out how to finish it ^_^

As for that anime Chrono Crusade, is it related Trigger/Cross?

sorry no it isnt, but I agree with your views on KH though, the story is already bad enough but gamer's like me have to endure each annoying sequel, I'm more into the dark fantasy types though.

Not even in one bit D: It's not a bad anime, but not that great either, and has nothing to do with anything that could involve or relate with the Chrono series. In fact, i don't think even time itself has to do with the plot of that anime...i think it was just "Chrono" because the main character had some clock that made him badass or something.

I'd also be happy with a Chrono or Kingdom Hearts MMO...although i'm not sure of how they'd work with a plot for such game for either of the series. I'd rather have a Chrono MMO, but by now S-E has pretty much forgotten about the series (or like you said, there aren't many people at S-E from the original series and it's hard to continue with the story because of it), and as much as i'd love it (as i LOVED Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross), i don't think we'll be seeing another Chrono game. So, chances are more of being a Kingdom Hearts MMO between the two, but i have no idea what kind of story they could use that would involve several characters, while still being related to the current KH story. Maybe the so-called Keyblade War with all the players being the past Keyblade heroes? That might be great to see :P And of course, a fast-paced Action RPG style for a gameplay would be perfect to me (...even though i actually don't play MMO's, or rather, try to stay away from them to rescue what little life i have left XD).

However, i actually don't think that the 3rd MMO will be any of them...or from any other SE series at all. I think it'll either be another game for the FF saga (something like a Versus XIV, sort of?), or a completely new game that takes several aspects of fantasy from other SE series, but being all new when it comes to story, enemies, the world in general, etc.

I was actually starting to think...perhaps it will be an Eidos title. Either Eidos could have been working on a cool new MMO that Squeenix wanted to get their name on. So they purchased the rights to publish their titles. Or they had an idea for one of Eidos' old titles, and wanted to get it in the works. Since Square has bought their publishing rights, we've already seen a brand new style of Tomb Raider game, with a completely new styled one in the works. And Arkham Asylum was delayed til it was perfect. Who knows...

This is similar to what EA did. I saw that the main reason EA went after the publishing rights to Bioware, was because they learned of Star Wars the Old Republic. Makes sense.
