Re: In the Dark
Nicolai was going to the farce of a funeral, that he was sure of. But his reasons for going, not even he was sure what he'd do once he was there. As for dress, he wore a black suit. He didn't have the funds to dress anything like his past incarnation had and it would be an insult to try, of course that didn't mean he wouldn't be displaying his nature.
On his drive to the funeral he revived an old nervous habit of his, tearing rather than clipping his fingernails. His car parked Nicolai approached the site of the funeral. When he was within fifty yards he announced his presence. A corona of white and gold light surrounded Nicolai, immediately making his presence known to the girls and anyone else within a hundred yards or so. His expression was grim and he carried a sheathed Twilight Paradox in his off-hand.
A few feet behind the girls he took a half step forward and then took it back, as if he was unsure if he should be there. "Hello Arietta. Lumina." He said grudgingly. Nicolai looked behind them at the coffin and gripped his sword more tightly. Taking a deep breath he relaxed his grip and returned his gaze to the faces of the girls, his expression unchanged.

Dex stretched out and laid against Arrieta before passing out. He never could shake off his long sleep. "Smghgn." The Gravestone alas was of Dex's make, So it was all wrong. Even the last name, who cared though? It wasn't like Raph would be using it.

Re: In the Dark
"Hey!" Arietta said as she moved him into a chair to sleep. "I know I'm cute and soft, but that doesn't mean you can use me as a pillow whenever!" She paused and giggled, doubting that Dex would hear her anyway. "Whatever. Just make sure you ask next time," she said laughingly as she walked over to the tombstone, Where Lumina was staring. "What's-" stopped as Lumina chuckled. First quietly, then with more volume. It never got too loud, as Lumina's yelling wasn't even very loud, but is genuine and hearty. For Arietta, it was the first real laugh Lumina had made since the funeral plans were made.
The girl shook her head. "Good lord... If Raph could see that, he'd roll over in his grave," Lumina replied, Arietta groaning at the bad joke though it did fit the situation. Lumina felt better now too. It wasn't so dark in her heart anymore as she turned to Nicolai. "Nicolai, Soong, as much as I wish I didn't have to do this, thank you for coming. I hope not to do this to you again," she said with a bow.

Dex stretched out in th chairs and frowned. "Come back....I was using that...." He coughed and suddenly his golden wings appeared. Dex had been one of the Pharoahs that hosted any of the gods. The golden falcons wings happened to appear only at inconvenient times, such as coughing, sneezing, or his impending doom. They were usually hidden though. "C'mon, It's not like I CAN drool......"

Nicolai finally took notice of the other two there. The one with the wings had to be Dex, Arietta had said he was the one who told them about this whole burial thing. Nicolai took a look around, it seemed everyone was there and Lumina was having a rough time of it already. Curse me. Fine. For Lumina. Although, I'm sure I'll regret this decision later. The sword disappeared and his expression eased into something more akin to a smile.
He took a deep breath and walked over to Lumina to give her a comforting hug. "It's fine. If I'm entirely honest, I was overdue for a visit." Nicolai looked towards a grave in another portion of the cemetary. This wasn't his first funeral and with as much time as he spent with the dead, he above all others should pay his respects more often. Nicolai released her with a smirk and sat on the botched headstone, elbows on his knees, and his chin on his hands. "So, do you know which rites Raph was wanting? I can do any, or even all. Although I'd recommend just picking one or two or you will be joining him before I'm done."

Arietta sighed, but smiled and pat Lumina on the back she went to sit back down next to Dex."Fine..." she said with a playful wink and giggle. "Just this once though, okay?"
Lumina giggled at Nicolai's comment. "That's good then. I'm afraid it wouldn't have been much of a service otherwise. Thank you, Nicolai," Lumina replied to him as she smiled mischievously for a split second. "Well then, could you do a Wiccan service for him, Nicolai? He said whatever I picked was fine. Could you do that for us?"

Dex sighed with relief once his head was supported once again. "Ahh It's good to be half alive...." He stretched out again and then hugged his pillow from the side before passing out.
If there is anything worse than being confined in a coffin, It would be the lack of stuff to do. Raphael could deffinitely understand why poeple put mini-bars and whatnot into their coffins. It was so boring! He wished he were able to sleep....

Re: In the Dark
Nicolai closed his eyes smiling at Lumina's challenge. His caste mark burned a little brighter. "Vague, if interesting. The preparations weren't made for this either. In addition to that there's just little old me. I can make do." He opened his eyes and began the ritual, speaking in a voice not wholly his own, he took no questions and allowed no interruption. Golden candles sprang into existence one at each cardinal direction and one to either side of the headstone. A ring of golden light appeared around grave. Twilight Paradox appeared in his hands as he walked around the circle counterclockwise. "This is a place which is not a place, in a time which is not a time, halfway between the worlds of the Gods and of mortals." The blade disappeared as he stepped outside the circle, creating a break in the ring, he took Lumina by the hands and gently pulling her within the circle. He did the same with everyone else, he gently shook Dex into semi-consciousness and half walked-half carried him into the circle. He left him supported by Arietta. The blade reappeared in his hand and he resealed the circle with a swing of the blade. Nicolai turned Eastward, "We welcome the spirits of the Ancestors and the honored dead not yet reborn." Southward, "We welcome our heroes and inspirations." Westward, "We welcome the Ancestors to incarnate in our children and grandchildren and in our families." Northward, "We welcome our deaths and our lives."
Twilight Paradox disappeared as he moved to the head of the coffin, he gestured for the others to lift it with him and lower Raph into the grave. After Raph had been lowered in a pair of platters made of light appeared, one carrying similarly constructed goblets filled with a golden "wine" and the other carrying "biscuits". He had each of them take one from each platter. "Take a drink and pour the rest into the grave and then take a bite and drop the rest into the grave." He instructed. The wine and biscuits were physically there, but had no taste, practically no mass, and gave the consumer a sensation of warmth and comfort. When all had done so, a shovel appeared in Nicolai's hands and he began filling the grave. He gestured for all to leave the circle when he was done, and left a golden goblet and biscuits on a platter at the foot of the grave.
Nicolai set the shovel down and turned to Lumina after he stepped out of the circle, his voice returning to normal. "The circle will fade in twenty minutes or so. The candles will fade when the sun goes down. And the wine and biscuits will fade after dawn comes. Until then it will be warded against trespassers." His shoulders were slightly slumped as if he was exhausted, but he gave no other indications of it.
((If you're wondering where I got the ritual and/or want to read the parts I skipped. http://www.ladyoftheearth.com/rituals/w ... uneral.txt ))

((nice. I must commend you on that, Gamerkale.))
Lumina moved forward and hugged Nicolai before doing her best to guide him to a chair, not an easy thing when you're like half the mass of a man like Nicolai. "Nicolai... Thank you. I.. I don't feel quite so dark and numb anymore," she said as she jumped up to give a quick, sisterly kiss to his cheek. "I do want to apologize again though for asking all this of you when you seemed like you had a lot on your plate already. But thank you for all this," she finished as Arietta half walked, half dragged Dex back to a chair. The Kitsune was stronger then she looked it seems.

Dex's eyes flashed open as he pulled his sword from the Duat (Realm of egypt used by god hosts.) And slashed into the earth as a clawed hand shot out. "Everyone Get Ba-" He never finished his sentence. Raphael shot from his grave surged past Dex, hitting him in the mouth, and sank his teeth into Lumina. His true vampire side had arisen. Dex had failed in protecting them, and the only way to save them, was to either stop Lumina from ingesting vampire blood and turning into a vampire, Or kill Raphael. He had to choose.

Re: In the Dark
To Lumina, it was shock was the first thing to register in her mind. She'd only just turned back to look when Raphael had slammed into her and sank in his fangs. Then it was pain, the impact having winded and dazed her first before she gasped in both and surprise as Raphael bit her. Her mind couldn't comprehend it at first stared in shock, her hands moving up Raphael's unyielding body as if to confirm what her body already knew. Her mind didn't kick back into working order until she felt a wave of dizziness sweep her, though Raphael held her in place. She wasn't a large person, so it wasn't a complete shock that he was draining her faster that someone the size of Dex or Nicolai. "Raph..." She leaned her head toward his ear. "Raph... it's me, Lumina. Stop. Please stop," she whispered as she heard a roar. Arietta had her blades drawn now, the Sun-inscribed blade glowing like Nicolai. "Arietta, stop, please! Don't hurt him!"
The Kitsune was bristling now. "Why?! Even now you defend him after he's bitten you?! If we don't...!" Arietta shook her head. "You'll die, or be turned! Do you want that?!"
"Better me then someone on the streets..." Lumina replied quietly as she whispered for Raphael to hear her even as another dizzy wave swept across her. She was pale already. "Better me that someone in the height of their lives... I've.. got nothing happy to lose anymore..."

Raphael coughed and fell backwards, Tears in his eyes. "I Didn't.....I.....I..." He didn't try to stop them. He let them run down his cheeks. "Arrieta, Restrain Raphael, I must speak with Lumina" Dex, Did a chant and the small wounds on her kneck mended themselves. That should take care of her pain. "Here eat this." He gave her a slice of what seemed to be bread. "Vampire saliva helps the heart make more blood. That's why feeding isn't illegal. But you must eat to get better."

Nicolai gave her a wry smile. "It's nothing. I just haven't slept si- for a few days. Sorry about my attitude earlier, I wasn't sure if I came to bury Raph or put him in the ground." Nicolai took a deep breath, the corona surrounding him began to slowly subside. He leaned back in the seat and ran his hands through his hair. Smiling up at the sun he asked, "How 'bout you? How are you holding-" It was then that Dex followed by Raph, interrupted his brief reverie.
The corona surged back into existence with renewed vigor, a tornado seemed to form behind him too this time. Nicolai stood, Twilight Paradox in hand. "I should never have let this happen. I should have listened to Him." Twilight Paradox appeared in his hands as he stood over Raph, no not Raph the thing that took Raph from us. "Die vampire." Golden sunlight rolled off of Nicolai and the blade as he raised it overhead and brought it down as hard as he could to stab Raphael's heart.

((Sorry for the double post, I just remembered. I control Westher.))
A small hand interposed itself between the tip of the sword and Raphael's heart. "Dex, I look away for one hour and you let things get out so of hand." Came the voice of the little boy who had stopped Nicolai's attack. Little kid Westher pointed at Nicolai and he was thrown backwards dozens of yards and sent crashing into a family's mausoleum. "Can you handle it from here, or do I need to hold your hand?"

Re: In the Dark
Arietta didn't think twice to restrain him with the full force of her Fox Magics. It was a long way from the level of her Eight-Tails mother, Morianna, but it was more then strong enough to bind a Human to to make it difficult for a Vampire is young as Raphael to move. "Thank you, Dex," she said weakly with a smiled as she fell back into a chair and nibbled on the bread he gave her. It didn't have much taste, but it made her feel better. "What did you want to talk-" she was interrupted as Nicolai was thrown back passed her into the Mausoleum. "Nicolai!" she yelled as she looked back at the child-like Westher. "Who's... that?" she asked.
Arietta, meanwhile, stepped back from Westher, every hair on her raised in alarm. She did, however, keep Raphael bound with her power as she looked at him. "W-who are you...?" she asked, jumping only slightly as Dex stuck his hands in her skirt pockets.

"The Golden Bull will be bracing for another charge before long. And I don't think he will have much love for the one he is sure to think turned his friend rabid." He gave Arietta and Lumina an unnaturally big smile, but otherwise ignored them. He waved to Nicolai as he climbed out of the ruins and disappeared by walking behind the headstone.
Nicolai was sure the lack of sleep was starting to catch up to him as he felt as though he was moving at half speed. Well that throw hadn't helped much either. He locked eyes with Westher for a second a combination of wrath and terror coursed through Nicolai's veigns at that moment and it caused him to pause. Then Westher was gone, the moment passed, and Nicolai marched purposefully forward once more. Tears streamed down on his face as he marched towards Raphael to try and finish him off again.

((Sorry. I know it's not very good. I'm a bit tired and It's late.))
Lumina shivered slightly at Westher's huge smile, instinctively sensing it, and by extension Him, to be something not to be disturbed. But almost as soon as the feeling came, Westher was gone and it was no longer an issue. Nicolai marched forward and it wasn't until she saw the tears on his face and Raphael more or less froze in place that it came together in her mind. Adrenaline gave her strength to move between the two. "Stop!" she yelled before stumbling back. Arietta was already there, holding her upright. She paused to look down and shivered momentarily when she realized her sudden re-sheathe and movement had accidentally caused her to take Dex's hands with her as they were still in her pockets.
"Lumina, you need to rest," the Kitsune said as she glared back at Raphael accusingly.
"Wait, please," she asked as she looked to Nicolai. "I'm grateful to you for your help and support, so Please, don't hurt Raphael..."

Nicolai stopped and glared at Lumina. "Lumina. I know how you feel, but that," he jabbed a finger towards Raphael, "stopped being Raph the moment he turned. It KILLED him. If that weren't enough, he tried to eat you. That's not Raph, it's a vampire wearing his skin. It needs to be destroyed before it kills someone. I should have ended it before you got hurt. That was a mistake that I intend to put right. The demons, vampires, and other creatures of darkness in this world have taken two people from me already. I won't let them have a third if I can help it. So step aside."
