The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
I love RPGs. Specifically, I love Dungeons & Dragons.
Now, there aren't all that many games that emulate the freedom of D&D as much as the Elder Scrolls series. The more recent Morrowind and Oblivion are fine examples of that. I love playing various classes in games like these.
The one specific role or class I like to play is the monk. There's just something respectable and manly about a guy that has the discipline and power of a monk.
Monks do indeed have "monk specific" weapons in case you were wondering.
My question to all of you is: what class would you play? What appeals to your senses and tastes? Whether it be for power or function or just the straight up joy you get from it, we all have some archetype of a character that we would follow in a game like Dungeons & Dragons or Oblivion.
Here's a link to the Elder Scrolls wiki with a good few balanced classes-http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Classes
And here are the base classes in Dungeons & Dragons-http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Classes
If you need help imagining the class you'd like to be or what you'd look like, here are some nice visual aids (Thanks goes to Hidora for these)-
Barbarian
Bard
Cleric
Druid
Fighter
Paladin
Ranger
Rogue
Sorcerer
Wizard
Here are some D&D races, for conceptual aid-
http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Races
I'll try and get some visual aid on the races.
Try to not invent your own "pwnage class that destroys all or is way more better than everyone elses class". That's just lame and isn't all too imaginative. I think everyone can make something overpowered. The challenge is finding something balanced, which is why I gave you two lists to simply pick from.
Post which class you'd play and the reason behind your choice. If someone else has the same class, it completely ok, you likely have a different reason for your choice and your character will likely have a different background. To spice it up, tell us how you'd play your character, give a background to your character, and maybe post a picture of what he or she might look like.
Most of all, have fun with your post!

Archer deffinantly, i'm not a fighter, but if i had to, my best bet would be with a bow. Though i enjoy fencing, so added i would be an Archer with a few up close fighting capabillities, i would prefer staying at adistance and avoid as much pain as possible. The cowards class is the class for me.

Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
If I ever get to make a class I always go with "Card Mage" or Shadowmancer" Card Mage was a class I came up with YEARS ago that basicaly instead of an inventory of items or spells he has cards and can cast them. (Like potion card with a x3 use) and he gets the "Card" Ability kinda like from FF8 where he can turn monsters into cards to use later (again with limited use) shadowmancer... speaks for itself XD

Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
That's actually a really cool idea! I'd assume they'd get better control over what they can store and how many things they can maintain at once as they level up. Did you get this idea form Yu-Gi-Oh? I'm pretty sure that's how they explained it in the original series.
Keep on posting people! Good ideas already!
We have KiteXX as an Archer and Ratsu as a Card Mage.

Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
No it was not from yugioh (well not directly) its because I am known because I play SO MANY TCGs (over 10) and I EFFEN LOVE CARDS! But the idea was made because my character who used it was a Duelhan (living suit of armor) who's only real strength was his defense so he was the groups mage but he was a card mage. His skills were used differently depending on the situation, like for instance later on when their was a huge fire he "card"ed a lake to unleash it and put it out. Also its big use is transporting large things in small spaces (like Card a car, then alter un cards it for use) the only problem though is that if he ran out of blank cards or cards in general he was useless so if hes captured and his cards are taken, he cant do anything.

Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
I'm always changing what class I like. When I stopped playing D&D (my group simply got bored, which is expected, after more than 8 years of playing), I was playing mostly with magic users.
If I was to choose a class I'd go nowadays, I think I'd go for either:
Barbarian
Bard
Cleric
Druid
Fighter
Paladin
Ranger
Rogue
Sorcerer
Wizard
If I was to choose a class I'd go nowadays, I think I'd go for either:
- D&D Ranger: Specialized in archery, and able to cast some useful magic.
- D&D Rogue: Not much good with combat, but useful in most other situations.
That image is the monk of Pathfinder RPG. I loved the designs for most of the model characters there. If you'd like, here are the other classes from the beta version:Altre wrote:

Oh another fun class I once made.
Genetecist- they can modify enemies (like change them to zombie type so healing hurts them) or change they weakness or add extra appendage to strengthen them or something. Also after battle you could choose to take parts from a fallen monster so you could make your own little abominations.

Sounds like a prestige requiring a few classes of necromancy. It'd be an awesome support class.Ratsu.V2 wrote:Oh another fun class I once made.

I'd probably get tired of it if I did D&D by itself for 8 years. The guys have a "meet" that they do once a week for their games. I moved though, so I won't be playing any time soon.I'm always changing what class I like. Hidora has been added with Ranger and Rogue!
If you're reading this, you should be able to post too (If you want, which I advise you do. Don't be shy!).

Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
I would be a rogue, with a sorcerer, barbarian and cleric touch, why? because it's a balanced character, it has speed, magic, healing magic, strengh, and agility all combined
No one can escape time, it delivers us all to the same end. You can't plug your ears and cover your eyes.
Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
Um.... I wouldn't suggest it, but hey, you do what you want! As far as D&D goes, you can multiclass every level up. Pretty much, when you level up, you choose a class to level up in. Problem is, there are only about 30 or so levels with rules written on how you level up and multiclass. So instead of being purely one class and getting the higher level skills in that class, you're only going to get to the equivalent of a level 5 for each of those classes (20 is the typical level cap, 21 and up are epic levels).I would be a rogue, with a sorcerer, barbarian and cleric touch, why? because it's a balanced character, it has speed, magic, healing magic, strengh, and agility all combined
So, it's more balanced to pick 1-3 classes. Not saying that you can't pick more. You could have 20 different classes with one level in each if you wanted....
Note taken on A-Ks multiclass/es!

Then a rogue barbarian and a sorcerer;P, thanks for the tip tough

Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
Never heard it done before, but it's so much easier to picture, lol. It'd probably function a lot better, too. You'd get the power of the barbarian with some ranged capability or utilities of the sorcerer and some of the evasive features with the sneak attack bonus of the rogue. You definitely have an interesting character.
List updated!
Also remember people, post a background to your character! We could transition some of the stuff made here to the RPing thread to use.

Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
If I actually played D&D, I'd prolly go with the Bard. They can take multiclass stuff from each class instead of having to stick with just 1, giving you more build options. Regardless, the best is maxed Charisma. And who doesn't want a partner that can give you a badass soundtrack to do your fighting to!?
Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
Bards are good at multiclassing into because of one feature-the songs. As a bard, multiclassing is feasible, but not necessarily the best choice (if there is one). It's best to mix other classes with bard simply because of the buffs and neat little things they can do. So playing a Fighter with Bard would be like a Songblade or something. They'd buff before or early on in a fight and be able to join the fight.

You can't cast spells while on barbarian's rage. Also, you cant use most of the rogue's skills (including sneak attack) while on rage.Altre wrote:Never heard it done before, but it's so much easier to picture, lol. So yeah, rogue + sorcerer would be fine, but barbarian cant go well with those.

Unless you wanted to do some comedic roleplaying.... "Watch out guys, he's pretty dangerous when he's calm, but you REALLY don't want to piss him off. No, like really, remember what happened to Dave? (flashes back to a dead guy in a cave that's missing his legs and arms)"You can't cast spells while on barbarian's rage. I've never played a barbarian. It's a common class, but I've never been into the idea of "raging" to kill enemies.
A-K, wanna change it or keep it for roleplaying sake?
Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
I did play as barbarian once just for fun. He was strong, but was so dumb it didn't know what money was for, and could be fooled by pretty much anyone. You can guess how things go with that =PAltre wrote:I've never played a barbarian. It's a common class, but I've never been into the idea of "raging" to kill enemies.

I think I may have had a barbarian in my PSP D&D game actually. I wasn't too impressed really. I think I'll read up on them....

Re: The RPG Class Thread (This is NOT a roleplaying thread)
Hmm.. now that I think about it, my Card Mage was a living suit of armor so it was very limited look wise, but what do you think a real Card Mage would wear equip wise? (Aside from the obvious strap on deckbod or pack to carry them in?)
