Mother Murders 3 month-old son over Facebook.
Seriously. If Facebook is so damn important these days that it causes people to do this crap, maybe I should quit while I'm ahead.

Emails are good enough, and people take this sh*t waaaay too seriously
EDIT: Just kidding. As long as someone can use it without going into RAWRRAEGOFTHEHEAVENSBRINGINGDOWNRIGTEOUSJUDGEMENTUPONTHEUNWORTHYBASTARDSTHATINTERRUPTMYSHITTYINTERNETGAME serious mode, then I really couldn't care less.
As far as I'm concerned, stuff like this will always happen with, well, pretty much everything as long as people manage to turn it into SRS BUSINESS-this is even the case with children's television

I hope I'm not the only one who's completely unsurprised by this.

I thought something very different when I read the topic title before reading the article and it was absurdly stupid.

Is it bad that I thought of .hack when I read the mother's last name is Tobias?

Well that's better than what my initial impression of the topic title.
I was somehow expecting that a mother made their infant a face book page and gave them hate filled comments filled with enough power to kill them somehow and that is would be a joke article.

Would you be shocked to hear I had a similar moment before reading the topic? So it's not too unusual, really.

This is why I play Harvest Moon instead. Jack never made me injure small children.

Heard about this. Bad parenting isn't caused by games, its caused by selfishness, games can't cause that.

..Although, I would contribute it more to ignorance before I thought of selfishness. Or, in this case, a psychological disorder. Who the hell gets that obsessed over a game like Farmville? And as if leaving for a few seconds to attend to YOUR CHILD is going to allow your farm to catch on fire and your animals to die. It's not even that fast paced lol
On a side, you can't say it's entirely a parent's fault, but you can't say they're off the hook, either. In most cases, the fault really does lie in the hands of parents who were too stupid/lazy to see that their child needed heavier monitoring. I realize parents can't constantly watch what their child does 24/7, but it's not hard to notice when your kid becomes overly obsessive over something to the point of it being unhealthy. It's also not that hard to refuse to buy that M rated game for your ten year old O:
Haha god. I could go on forever about this issue.
Unfortunately, this news will only just serve as more "evidence" for every moron who assumes a video game is at fault whenever someone does stupid ****....Although, it would be nice to see them get rid of Farmville for good. >:I

Nah, you don't need to quit unless you know you are that mentally unstable.Advent_Winter wrote:Seriously. If Facebook is so damn important these days that it causes people to do this crap, maybe I should quit while I'm ahead.

only someone mentally unstable or with serious, serious bad priorities would do something like that.
it isn't social-networking that caused it.

honestly I have met people like that, but I believe the reason she did that was probably because the game gave her a sense of responsibility for her farm although it seemed pretty ironic that her sense of responsibility for her child was nil.
Re: Mother Murders 3 month-old son over Facebook.
This is quite disturbing. A woman who was under the influence of facebook gaming caused the death of her young son out of aggrevation? My, things have become hetic in today's society. What's next?

Socially this mother has done quite a terrible job raising her kid. Honestly, I think that this is just one of the unfortunate things that happens because of how addicting facebook can be.

Re: Mother Murders 3 month-old son over Facebook.
Lulz, my nephew was so obsessed with Farmville (and some other random FB games...Plants vs Zombies, Mafia something, etc) he would refuse to eat, go outside, or do anything that would distract him from the games. And the few times he came in contact with another human being, he would FORCE them to start Farmville/Plants vs Zombies/etc way worse than a flea market vendor trying to sell you some random thing. He was just obsessed though, not really crazy or truly insane...despite whatever he would say, he actually would eat and do "distracting" things whenever he felt like it, and playtime was over whenever her mom or sister disconnected the modem or take him off the network. He might've probably thought of killing them whenever they did that though...anyways he's obsessed with World of Warcraft now ~3~
And Facebook can be addictive, yes, and so MANY other things can be, some worse than others depending of the point of view, but the problem aren't the addictive things...the problem are the people who get addicted to them. If Facebook never existed, that girl would've killed her child because his cries didn't allow her to tweet about her "depressive" day, or to read what their MySpace friends were saying, or be "peacefully" cyber-IMing with random strangers, or simply watch TV. I actually remember seeing news long ago of adult mothers who beated up their children because they wouldn't stop crying at the time of their favorite TV drama thing. As long as people aren't educated (or learn in general) properly about what it's like to assume responsibilites and set up priorities correctly, instead of giving themselves huge responsibilities (aka. children) when all they want to do is play some game and not be bothered, things like this will keep happening. Yesterday was TV shows, today are games and social networks, tomorrow will be whatever new technology/entertainment source people come up with and becomes popular.
....Though i actually agree with the idea of Farmville disappearing because of it. Not because it "has to" or it "deserves to", but just for amusement and to see people raging in so many ways about it. And kinda because i really, REALLY HATE Farmville and most FB games >3> lol

I don't see why people like Facebook so much. I like the idea of talking to family, and friends, but people go way to far with things. They put their personally info out there with little, or no privacy settings.

I believe it has to do with how addicting it is to distract people. I'm not addicted to facebook, but I do a few apps that can be a bit addicting. None of them are farmville.
