Agarest: Broken Peace
Premise:
((As a quick note, this is set years after the game, so no canon stuff, no descendents from canon people, etc.))
Peace has descended on Agarest. Gridamas, after a long period, has stabilized and is now a hub for all kinds of adventurers and mercenaries. Attracted by the prospects of this profession, be it money or fame, honor or dreams, you are travelling to Gridamas to start your adventures.
However, as you near the grand city, you are stopped by a mysterious, robed being. She describes a tale of rising darkness to you, before swiftly vanishing, torn apart by the winds and leaving these words echoing in your mind.
"Stop the darkness. Find the others chosen by me, and stop the shadows before it's too late..."
Confused, and bewildered, you carry on your way to Gridamas. In an attempt to find these 'chosen', you head to the nearest inn and begin your search.
The Generations (Soul Breed):
True to the original Agarest game, this roleplay will take place over several Generations. The focal point of the series are Spirit Vessels; people who have surrendered their bloodline to mysterious beings in order to gain the strength needed to pull them through times of desperation. Be it protecting a loved one, or defeating a life-long rival, these men and women choose to give their bloodline's destiny to these beings, making every one of their descendants Spirit Vessels. With each Generation, the skills and knowledge of their forebears is passed on to the child, accumulating over each Generation and increasing the strength of each subsequent Generation.
Of course, this means that there must be people to carry on the bloodline, so the beings who bestow this strength help the Spirit Vessel find someone to start and raise a family. Be they chance meetings or organised encounters, they assist in finding either a male or female to join the Spirit Vessel in their endeavours. However, relationships must develop naturally; no-one is sure why, but a forced relationship voids the strength of a Spirit Vessel.
For This Roleplay:
At each major milestone of this roleplay, we will transition to the next Generation. At this point, people can choose to refresh their characters' profiles and, in the case of Spirit Vessels, they create a profile for the child, listing the father and mother. Except in special circumstances (such as long-lived characters who promise the parents to look after their child and help them in the next Generation), all users will be required to create a new profile.
Places as Spirit Vessels are limited. At max, there will be FOUR Spirit Vessels created over the course of the roleplay. These Spirit Vessels may encounter someone to pair with during the course of the roleplay, but if nothing has happened by the transition to the next Generation, they will be allowed to create the next child with a fictional character of their creation.
Rules:
1. The usual. No god-modding, no auto-hitting/avoiding, no forced character deaths without permission etc etc.
2. Please keep any romance below PG-16. I don't want any trouble with the mods.
3. This is a literate RPG, so obey proper grammar and all that jazz!
4. The minimum post length is three sentences long. Responding to one-liners is a nigh-impossible task, and a killer for creativity.
5. Please avoid Mary/Gary Sue's! They are terrible for character development and drama.
6. Keep you character sheets realistic! Rare races like the Ryulent are, well, rare, so having four or five - or more - gathered in Gridamas is a wee bit odd, no?
7. Similarly, please keep your equipment realistic for a new adventurer. It may be expensive, but chances are it won't be humongously powerful.
8. Send me your profiles via PM, so I can keep all the profiles in one post!
9. Multiple characters are fine, just let me know how many you're controlling.
Races of Agarest:
Humans: Humans in Agarest seem to be the dominant race on most of the continents. They are the most diverse race in Agarest, with many different shapes and colors. They comprise most of the ruling class within the kingdoms on each of the continents. Humans seem to have the shortest life span of all the races in Agarest.
Elves: Elves seem to be the second most populous race in Agarest. They are a long-lived race that ages much slower than humans but are not immortal. They are divided into a number of subspecies, such as High Elves, Dark Elves, and Syriums. They are distingushed by their pointy ears. Unlike humans, they live in isolated villages, all called Elfville for some reason, but journey to other towns and cities and trade with them. Elves, particularly High Elves, are more in tune with nature and have powerful magical abilities, being able to even summon a Larva.
Subspecies of Elves:
High Elves: High Elves are the oldest and most powerful members of the Elven races. They are the most tuned to nature and have great magical abilities. Their ears are a lot shorter than those of other Elves. They have the ability to summon Larvae as guardians and protectors. However, this species of elves is dying out. Of all the Elf species they are they most respected because of their beauty and ability, with some being made leaders of Elfville.
Syrium:Syrium are a subspecies of Elves. They all have light grey skin, blueish grey hair and blue eyes. Unlike High Elves, Syriums seem to be the most populous of the race. In terms of abilities, they are more varied than High Elves and have greater speed.
Dark Elves: Not much is known about Dark Elves. They seem to have brown skin and yellow eyes. They are stronger than the other elves, being warriors instead of mages. However, Dark Elves are considered by the rest of the world to be evil brutes. They are not allowed in the villages and, even those of half breed that merely resemble Dark Elves, are banished from villages and persecuted by the other elves.
Onetles: Onetles are a race of beings that look very similar to humans except that they have a third eye in their forehead; a triclops race, in other words. They try to hide their third eye to blend in with humans and hide from persecution. This race seems to be the rarest in Agarest, and consequently their abilities and magical affinity are unknown, with the exception of their Foresight.
Neocolom: Created by the god Deeth, Neocolom are a race of people who appear human with the substitution of animal parts for various body parts or the addition of animal parts like a tail (similar to an animé catgirl). Some Neocoloms seem to become wild and uncontrollable during a full moon. Including enemies, three different Neocolom types of seem to exist: ones with fox-like appendages, one with rabbit-like ears, and the various 'catgirls'. Because of their animal tendencies, they seem to be one of the fastest races in Agarest.
Harpuia: Harpuia are a race of feather folk, i.e. Humans with wings. Essentially they are the same as angels except their wings are lower in their backs. Just like humans, they are very varied in appearance with the exception of the wings, which in turn can come in a number of colors. They seem to prefer living in mountainous regions where they have forts built around their homes. They appear to rarely interact with other races preferring to remain in their town and villages. In terms of abilities, they seem to be a race that prefer aerials and distance attacks.
Yulishee: Yulishee are Agarest's versions of merfolk, or mermaids. They appear to have human shape with fin like ears and a variety of skin and hair color with smooth skin. As expected, they live underwater in seas or lakes. Because of this they have no single living area, as they are spread across the oceans, but come together in one area usually near a lake or sea to communicate and govern their race. This is called a colom. They have strict rules, and those that break those rules are made to leave the colom. As expected they are a race that uses water as their main magic.
Ryulent: Ryulents are a race of plant-like beings with human-like bodies. They are said to be born from plants. When they are ready to die, they journey the world to find a place to rest. Once they find a place, their bodies are planted and are turned into trees. Given that, it can be assumed that many of the forests in Agarest are made from this race. Ryulents are considered to be one of the strongest races in Agarest, even striking fear into the Beast. One swing from them could destroy a hill. They are also the most in tune with nature and as such have some magical abilities. Because of their plant-like bodies, they can easily hide in a forest. Their ability to communicate with plants ensures they won't get lost. The Ryulents are a race that will retaliate if a person tries to destroy their home or nature.
Greer: Agarest's Dwarf-like race. Greer are associated with forging and enchanting weapons. They have pointy ears and are shorter than most other races. They are of a stout physique, and have remarkable strength and craftsmanship.
Neith: The Neith are a race whose members are of very small stature. On average, they are significantly shorter and physically much weaker than Greer. They are akin to Gnomes of some other fantasy worlds. Neiths are excellent craftsmen and artisans, able to make detailed and powerful adornments.
Larva: Larvae are a group of creatures from another world. According to Dyshana, they are closer to being gods. High elves with high magical powers have the ability to summon these creatures as guardians and protectors. Summoned Larvae are very loyal to those that summoned them and are generally strong with great combat experience. Larvae take no particular form.

Race: Unknown
Age: Unknown (seemingly immortal).
Appearance: Falsai wears an ornate tasset that covers most of her right leg and some of her thigh. She set out to become a mercenary after she found that her talents did not lie in either smithing, like her father, or carving, wood that is, like her mother. And her village was just too boring to keep her interest for very long after she hit adolescence. So she took some equipment from her father's forge and left. Skadi's initial reaction to his attempts at buying her affection was to smash the golden roses he brought her and then to throw a hammer into his chest. This reaction only served to increase his desire to win her over. His subsequent attempts have met with similar fates and after their last encounter Skadi managed to lose Gilgamesh and he has been searching for her ever since.

Skadi's initial reaction to his attempts at buying her affection was to smash the golden roses he brought her and then to throw a hammer into his chest. This reaction only served to increase his desire to win her over. Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
"Whoa!" Lykala jumped back, narrowly avoiding a broken bottle that, not seconds ago, he had accidentally knocked off a patron's table. He hadn't meaned to do so, it had just happened. One moment he was contentedly wandering into the inn, contemplating a strangers decidedly strange words; next, he was dodging the bottle-turned-weaponry and its raging wielder. "Hey, now, let's calm down a bit! I said I'd pay you back for that."
"It was the last one, knucklehead!" slurred the patron, angrily. Lykala looked back to behind the counter of the innkeep's section, spotting numerous bottles with strikingly similar labels.
"Really? I can see- Oi! Watch it!" he side-stepped swiftly, his Syrium instincts barely allowing him to succeed in dodging the bottle-turned-weapon-turned-projectile, "You'll hurt someone!"
"I'll hurt you!" roared the man, a burly human with arms like heavy logs, "Now stop running and take it like a man!"

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
As she approached the inn Skadi heard the familiar sound of a breaking bottle. What a waste, she thought for a moment. Her ears then picked up the sound of threatened violence and a smile crossed her lips. She picked the nearest glass off a table and downed it. "Hey, that's mi-" his complaint was silenced by the glass crashing down on his head. "Bar FIGHT!" She shouted as she grabbed the nearest bottle and threw it at the man chasing Lykala, she also kicked over the table, knocking over the two men that were getting up to attack Skadi. The barmaid screamed and ran behind the counter. Skadi intercepted an incoming bottle with a chair and laughed. She had been here less than five minutes and there was already a barfight, what a wonderful way to welcome weary travelers.

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
With the quickly exarcerbating situation, Lykala was loathe to stay around any more than he had to. The Dark Elf causing the trouble seemed like someone to avoid, but with the angry patron closing in with his fist aimed at Lykala's face, he couldn't exactly move. Ducking and sliding out from underneath the man, he edged towards the woman. He had to stop the violence somehow, before they were both barred - or worse.
Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
Skadi smashed her chair on one of the other patrons, sending splinters everywhere. She found it odd that the small elf boy, being chased by a rather large human, was charging at her rather than trying to stop the big man chasing him. It was around the time this thought crossed her mind that the two men she had knocked over with the table got back up and used it like a battering ram, and she was the gate they were trying to knock down. She found herself pinned against the wall, her short stature was both helping and hindering her here. For one she wasn't being crushed by the table legs just yet, but she was also slightly lifted up into the air making it impossible for her to get any leverage. She writhed for a moment as they tried to press her through the wall. Then she groped for her hammer, but that was unreachable due to a table leg. She pouted, this was turning into a rather unenjoyable brawl and the table legs were now starting to crush her rather painfully and making it hard to breathe. She kicked back against the wall as hard as she could, but succeeded in only causing more pain as the table legs dug in more. Finally she snarled and brought her fists down on the supporting leg of the table, smashing it and dropping her to the ground. The two men fell forward finally breaking through the wall while Skadi sat in the rubble coughing.

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
Watching all that transpired with bewildered amusement, Lykala almost forgot that he was being attacked. He ducked, yet again, and called over to the Dark Elf. "Hey! What're you doing?" he yelled, elbowing the man attacking him in the gut. He was getting fed up of rowdy drunks, especially ones sensitive about others spilling their liquor. He could fight back, of course, but he had just cleaned his daggers and didn't necessarily want to cause too much trouble in Gridamas. Part of him blamed the violent Dark Elf, but then again, he was the one who accidentally knocked the guy's drink over. He backed away towards the woman again. "Mind telling me why you did what you did just now?" he asked, looking at the inn. The two this woman had knocked over were struggling to their feet; failing miserably. The first assailant, however, seemed even more angry than before - especially with the sword he now drew from his waist.
Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
"Because-" the guy drawing his sword, caused her mind to shift gears and she grabbed the closest thing to throw at him, in this case Lykala, and chucked him bowling the big man over. "I wanted...to...breathe?" She looked around for the person who had just asked her the question, and remembered, she had just thrown him. She hit herself on the head a couple of times. "Think before you act." She reprimanded herself.
She ran forward, sliding beneath a swung bar stool, hopped up and brought an slammed her elbow into the big man's face. "Sorry about that, aheheh." She said to Lykala and held out a hand to help him up. She looked around, several people were starting to pull out actual weapons and this elf before her didn't seem to be in the spirit of things. This brawl was turning sour fast, she thought to herself as the big man staggered back to his feet sword in hand, despite his bloody and probably broken nose.

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
Dazed, confused, and slightly offended by being turned into a projectile much like the bottle that had sparked this entire affair, Lykala only hesitantly accepted the offer for assistance. He stumbled and staggered to his feet. "This... is not what I had in mind by looking for information," he mumbled, rubbing his head and sorting his hair out, "But what the hell. Are you going to throw me again or can I actually help you out of this?"
Reluctantly, he drew one his daggers and flicked it around his knuckles, before actually grasping it in a ready position.

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
"Help me out of this? I have everything under control. You're the one with a 400 pound sword wielding giant trying to kill you." She grabs the sword as the man swings it down, the blade bites into her hand, but she stops it. She hits his hand with her hammer forcing him to let go. She smacks him in the gut and then atop the skull with the hilt. "And what's with all of the blades suddenly? Honestly, why do men always try to compensate like that when they start losing?" She rants while walking over to the counter. She slams the sword down and grabs a bottle.

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
Lykala stared at the woman in utter disbelief. She was rude, brash, and had thrown him into someone. "Back up for just a moment," he said, placing the dagger back in its sheath. For the moment, he was glad he didn't have to clean it again, "Who are you and why the hell did you just make a bar fight just that little bit worse? Is it in the blood or something?"
The innkeeper, having fled previously, now returned. She clutched a broomstick in one hand and pointed at Lykala accusingly with the other.
"I think you'd best leave, before I call the guards." said she, and a lot of the other customers seemed to agree with her. However, she paid absolutely no attention to the Dark Elf who had destroyed a table and bludgeoned three of this inn's patrons.
Dusting himself from the debris the Dark Elf had scattered across the floor, Lykala simply shrugged and turned towards the exit.

"Hey, wait up." Skadi pulls a few coins out and tosses them over the counter, grabs another bottle, and walks out of the inn after Lykala. A chandelier falls as she slams the door shut with a kick. "I take it I have you to thank for that wonderful welcome back there?" She asks, not heeding his last two questions at all. She leans back against a tree, dropping one of her bottles and prying the lid off the other with a knife and took a swig, "You don't really seem like the type who enjoys that sort of social activity, so why'd you pick a fight like that?" She winces a little as she pours the alcohol over her cut hand.

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
"I didn't," Lykala replied, stuffing his hands into deep pockets and sighing quietly, "It was a misunderstanding, right up until you smashed a table into some people."
Outside, some of Gridamas's curious citizens and gathered in a small ring around the inn, obviously interested in the ruckus that had been ringing from the place. A few eyes turned to the Syrium and Dark Elf exiting the building but, seeing his thin physique, turned back to see who the actual perpetrator was. "Anyway, yes, you have me to thank, if getting kicked out of an inn and being forced to find another source of information is something worth thanking. I take it you'll also thank me for handing damage payments over to you?"

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
Heheheh, yeah, that was fun. She thought to herself when he mentioned the table. "Damage payments?" She looked over at the inn and then to her hand. "Oh, you mean this little nick?" She said as she held her hand up. "Don't worry about such small things. Happens all the time." She drained the last of her bottle and dropped it. So she went to pick up the other one, but missed it once, and fumbled with the lid a moment before remembering she used a knife on the last one. "So, exactly what information were you looking for? I can't say that I know much about this city, but if it's elsewhere you're interested in I might know a thing or two." She asked as she worked on prying the cap off.

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
"I meant payments for the- ugh. Never mind," Lykala rubbed his head in a vain attempt to quell the rising headache niggling the back of his mind. This woman was simply asking for trouble - no two ways about it. "I need information on the state of affairs. I got a weird chat from a weirder stranger, and it's safe to say I'm curious. They mentioned a 'rising shadow', so any news on that would be helpful."
He was about to elaborate, when a loud shout from behind the pair distracted him, "You there! Syrium!"
He turned to see two heavily armoured guards rushing towards them. "Aw, hell. City Guard..." no doubt, the innkeeper had sent them despite him obeying the order to leave. It always ended up like this, no matter how nice he was after these infrequent but incredibly annoying accidents.

"Ah, so you were one of the others." She commented dryly as she turned to look at the guards and then back smiling at the Syrium. "Don't want to get locked up? Is not so bad, usually." She took another drought and stuck a knife into the tree. "Might be able to help. Ah, right, I've not intrah intru intro duced meself. Skadi." She held the bottle out to Lykala, put her free hand on the knife hilt, and turned to face the guards.

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
Lykala politely declined the drink, replying with his name, "It's Lykala. Aaand I really don't think it's a good idea to take on the City Guard."
The suggestion to run away was swiftly destroyed. In the period of their conversation, the pair had caught up him. They were burly, but not exactly bright. Each held a worn, standard-issue longsword loosely in unprepared hands. "We've orders to take you into custody," said the taller, evidently more articulate of the two. Lykala sighed.
"See now, gentlemen, that's not exactly in my best interests, and my... acquaintance," he gestured to Skadi, "seems to agree with me. So, how about we leave this little feud where it is so long as we keep out of your hair?"
The other guard, a stout man with a thick jaw and heavy voice, replied. "Orders are orders. You come with us now, lil' Elf."
He took a quick look around, with keen, blue-grey eyes. There were no other guards in sight, but taking them down might cause a bit of commotion. If he was going to fight, it would have to be a quiet battle. He groaned in frustration, flicking his daggers from their hilts and holding their keen blades steady in both hands. "I don't think so."

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
Skadi stood dumbfounded for a moment, first he said he didn't want to fight them, and now he's starting a fight with them. What a strange little hypocrite. She shrugged and drank. The two guards had ignored Skadi as all she did was take a drink when Lykala pulled out his weapons. After her final drink she smashed the bottle on the shorter guard's helm, it obviously wouldn't hurt him, but it did get him to turn towards her. He swung wildly, his blow hitting her in the side, but the half-hearted blow simply bounced off her armor. Skadi slammed her fist into his large stomach, which must have been gorged since her hand was more or less deflected with a pang on his heavy armor, yet he doubled over and started vomiting. If Skadi had been sober she would probably be crying out in pain over a broken finger, but as it was she decided to elbow the back of his neck and send him face first into his own vomit. She giggled and dropped the broken bottle to pick up her knife. This little elf, despite all his complaints, really did know how to party.

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
Although sure he wasn't going to get used to her violence any time soon, Lykala quickly joined in on the brawl. The taller guard, disheartened by Skadi's outburst, turned to the decidedly thin-boned and slightly build Syrium. Hoping to beat him with strength he tried to rush Lykala, but the daggers in his hands twirled swiftly and cut the strappings holding the man's breastplate in place. It fell with a clang and collided with the guard's feet, causing him to trip. Satisfied by the swift, easy debilitation, Lykala turned to Skadi. "Should we get going before they get up?" he suggested, "Or do you want to cause yet more trouble for us both?"
Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
She put a hand on her chin thoughtfully and sheathed her knife. "Trouble's always fun, but we seem to be out of liquor. So I guess dancing will be fine." She held a hand out to Lykala.

Re: Agarest: Broken Peace
"Dancing? What's dancing got to do with anything?" he gave the taller guard a kick, as he made to get up, "We need to get out of here, before the City Guard gets here!"
More shouting sounded from around the corner. "Oh, you have gotta be- Fine!" he grabbed Skadi's hand roughly, pulling her along and down into a back alley. He couldn't leave Gridamas yet, so this was the only option left to him, "You best be grateful for this, Skadi," he grumbled, beginning to hate the sound of his complaints.
