Things you HATE in games.
For me, its how in nearly every online FPS I play lately, sniping is worthless. They take away your ability to 1 hit kill unless you get a headshot, give you crap accuracy, screw long range shots with "FoW", and make the maps small little towns where the moment you try to get far enough away that you're in a good position to snipe there's a border that kills you! And don't even get me started on kill cams, that's just plain BULLSH*T when you're trying to snipe.
Re: Things you HATE in games.
If you're playing console FPSes, that might be your problem right there. These games were originally built around this thing called a mouse.
Anyway, I hate anything they use to turn a 10 hour game into a 20 hour game without adding fun. Including but not limited to:
-Crate puzzles
-Jumping puzzles
-Ridiculously convoluted inventory micromanagement
-Running around a town trying to talk to the right guy (unless it's some sort of real event, like chasing someone)
-Power-leveling
If Heavy Rain spawns a genre, then I also hate QTE games where your character suddenly feels the need to knit a sweater or weave a blanket.

You listed almost all of my gripes with games.Kuukai wrote: Anyway, I hate anything they use to turn a 10 hour game into a 20 hour game without adding fun. Including but not limited to:

I also hate when they don't give you or only the most vague idea of where your suppose to go, go find this item or guy someplace, somewhere, and they just give you a name, how is that suppose to tell me where it is, mark it on my map or give me a arrow key, or at least tell me what town and direction.
THESE THINGS ARE NOT FUN!

Re: Things you HATE in games.
I really don't have problem with Jumping Puzzles or Power-leveling, but I f*cking hate Crate Puzzles >_>Kuukai wrote:Anyway, I hate anything they use to turn a 10 hour game into a 20 hour game without adding fun. Including but not limited to:

As for the "running around trying to tak to the right guy", I like to talk to all NPCs as soon as I get to a new town, so it isn't really a problem.
Also, I hate when some things (specially skills and/or bonus bosses) get lost forever because you didn't have a guide saying what you need to do to get said thing and it isn't even hinted that you could do said thing on the game itself.
That's why I like the World Map from Wild ARMs 5. The next place you have to go is almost always marked on your map, and the map even gives you coordinates.Azure Kite wrote:I also hate when they don't give you or only the most vague idea of where your suppose to go, go find this item or guy someplace, somewhere, and they just give you a name, how is that suppose to tell me where it is, mark it on my map or give me a arrow key, or at least tell me what town and direction.
Btw, have you played Tales of the Abyss? There's a part where one of your allies say: "We should go to Belkend. It's to the west of here". The problem is: he simply forgot to mention that there's a freaking continent on the middle of the way!!!

I take it your talking about certain SMT games? Here I am at the end of P3 waiting to get Thanatos or Messiah only to find out I forgot to do ONE quest and I'm screwed the whole game!hidora wrote:I really don't have problem with Jumping Puzzles or Power-leveling, but I f*cking hate Crate Puzzles >_>Kuukai wrote:Anyway, I hate anything they use to turn a 10 hour game into a 20 hour game without adding fun. I'm going out on a limb here and saying you might not like escort missions.S1lentOp wrote: - Escort missions
I'm not crazy about them myself.
I also dislike games killing off one of my favorite characters, espically if I've worked really hard on that particular character like in LoD and P3.
I also dislike losing out on stuff forever by not doing something by a certain time, though I can see the need for a time limit.
Re: Things you HATE in games.
Yeah, primarily SMT and Tales games.CirilloPrimo wrote:I take it your talking about certain SMT games? Here I am at the end of P3 waiting to get Thanatos or Messiah only to find out I forgot to do ONE quest and I'm screwed the whole game!
Btw, your example isn't really like that cuz... well, Thanatos and Messiah are from S.Links that raise by advancing in the story, so you can't miss those. Problem is when you want to have Orpheus Telos, though. If you have this guy, you can't deny that you have used a guide. Simply as that.
As an example from SMT I'd use Digital Devil Saga 2. To fight Satan, you need to defeat Seth. To fight Seth, you need to defeat Shiva and Vishnu. To fight Shiva, you must have an item called Pinaka, which is a rare drop from Parvati (which is a rare random encounter on the last layer of the final dungeon), and to fight Shiva you need to have an item called Nandaka, which is a rare drop from Narasimha (which is a rare random encounter on the last layer of the final dungeon). They DO say that "if you wish to see my master, you must fight me first" or something like that, but how the hell should I know that I need to get a rare drop from them to be able to fight Shiva/Vishnu? And how should I know that I need to defeat Shiva and Vishnu (both appear at the 7th layer) to fight Seth (which appears at the 5th layer)?!
Also, on Devil Summoner. If you use the Pagan Demons's Mind Reading skill on a dog at the Amazing Science Lab, it asks what's your dream and lets you say whatever you want. After that, if you talk to the last spirit before the last boss on the final dungeon and say EXACTLY what you said to the dog, you are taken to a room with lots of items that increase your stats (IIRC, if you get one letter wrong, you won't be able to get the items anymore). Also, you can first talk to the dog at Chapter 6, when the last dungeon is at Chapter 12, and the last chapters are the longest ones, so you'll probably forget what you said to the dog by the time you reach the last spirit >_>
How could I forget to mention those? >_<CirilloPrimo wrote:I also hate hate hate! useless tutorials, or in a game your at the lowest level of a place, only to find out you have to go. all. the. way. back.... Not only that but certain monsters are tougher than holy hell. On the way back.

I hate it when this happens.
I hate it when you play a video game and get stuck in one part. No matter what you do, you can't get pass it. So you give up come back a few weeks later start playing it again and it was really easy to beat.
I just hate it when that happens.

I hate it when Legend of Dragoon has a scratch on disk 3 that makes the game crash every time during this one boss fight.

Re: Things you HATE in games.
Useless button commands, as well as the absence of commands. I seriously hate it when the ability to jump is completely ignored in games that should have a jump button.

Re: Things you HATE in games.
Things I hate in games?
-Puzzles. Not all of them, but most puzzles seem to exist solely to extend play time (and not make it any more fun in the process).
-Uninspired music. Half of the Tales series and most of Final Fantasy fall under this. I know it's kind of silly to be elitist about game music, but it's one of the things I pay the most attention to. (Don't bother asking WHY.)
-Unappealing art. Sadly, in my case, "appealing" art tends to shift more toward "generic anime style", which leads to me getting a lot of ridicule. And I'm not really fond of anything in a "realistic" style (with rare exceptions) or stuff like SMT.
-Absurd difficulty. I don't mind if the game is a little hard, but when it's unbeatable without INCREDIBLE amounts of frustration (unfortunately applies to many things because I'm not really that good at games in general)... Tales of Eternia is apparently considered one of the hardest games in the series. I had no trouble with it whatsoever, except for a certain battle. Go figure.
-Going out of its way to make a certain character speshul. I'm looking at you, Wesley Alkaid.
-Fanbases. Oh good lord in heaven above, fanbases. Fanbase is primarily what made me hate Tales of Symphonia. And a whole host of other games. Especially those fans that will make up ANY excuse to hate a character of a certain familiar archetype, namely the one Atoli belongs to... applies to pretty much everything, though, not just games.
-Imbalance of gameplay and story. A game that has insanely good gameplay and a bad story is difficult to attach to, while a game with a really good story and bad gameplay is just flat-out boring, especially if the story isn't told right.
-Blizzard's tendency to create an awesome character and then have them degrade into villainy. I'm looking at you, Arthas and Sarah Kerrigan.

Also, I don't have anything against turn based games. In fact, most megaten games (which is a series second only to .hack in my heart xP) are turn based. Of course, the turn system of these games is more strategic than it may look like.
