Any ideas on how to keep books/manga safe?

I let my friends borrow my manga all the time (I have a lot...), but I happen to be one of those people who OCD over everything being in perfect condition. Because of that, I'm taking a risk every time I lend something out to someone.

Usually, whenever I hand the book over, it's wrapped inside a couple of Safeway bags, which I put inside a small paper bag. I do this so it (hopefully) doesn't get destroyed in their backpack. The thing is, it's not the most effective method of keeping my books safe, but I can't seem to come up with anything better.

Does anyone have any ideas for how I can keep my books in good condition and survive being in a messy backpack? I like spreading the love around and introducing people to new series and all, but yeah...

If you insist on letting people borrow your books then you can put them in a case. They sell leather ones and hard ones. Even if the case is not meant for books, it really doesn't matter as long as it fits. You can generally find these at any bookstore, but you're guaranteed to find them in Christian bookstores. You just have to find one that doesn't have crosses and **** all over it. When I used to bring my copies of Hellsing to school to read on the bus I carried them in a leather Bible case. I could fit about two volumes in it.

And what everybody else has said, keep them to yourself, show case them at your house, get book covers or make crappy papers ones like they taught us in high school

To keep it safe in a messy backpack?

Put it in a different compartment of your packpack where nothing else is at.
Honestly though, putting a book in a backpack will more than likely cause some type of damage =\.

Especially if it gets pushed to the very bottom from the bigger things in there.

How much do cases cost? I don't want to spend any more than $10, unless it's really worth it.

In this case, to me....

Keeping my books perfect is more important than spreading the love...So I just dont let anyone even touch it!

Use a separate carrier. For me and comics its drawers or chest. Portable containers are also an option. Lend them to your borrower so they have casing to keep the material in ya? Think boxes.
