Just Putting This Out There...

Post by Altre »

I'm graduating from high school and shall soon be in either Boston, MA, going to Dean (college) or an agency, pursuing my career in film acting. YESSSSSS!

(This is in off topic because it has nothing to do with .Hack, but this does mean that I'll have more time to delve back into The World!)

Are you going to study acting? If so, good luck to you. And I assume you're going to move on down to LA, so prepare to wear shorts on Christmas and drive as aggressively as you can.

I'm okay at acting, but it's not something I'd want to do as a profession. I'd much rather become a comic-book artist, or an animator :B

I was told, "The only thing you need to keep in mind while acting is that your lines aren't for the camera, they're for the other actors." Which makes a lot of sense, when you're talking to a machine you don't have much expression, but when you're talking to a person, its totally different.

Thanks peeps! I'll always know the name and pass to my account here, so I'll visit periodically. This summer promises to be busy.

Erranty: I'll make sure to ask the douchebag filming if he has an account on the Dot Hackers forums.

Moving to Los Angeles is a MUST and looking like your character when you audition is a MUST you might get the big break but usually first you have to enter into theater to build up your portfolio! It's a though buisness to break into but once you do, it's quite easy.

Also, dont be disheartened by the fact you wont always get the part, it's not necesarily lack of talent from your part it's the fact they not only look for talent but for someone who looks significantly close to what the character looks like in the creator's head.

Sometimes they even disqualify you if youre not the right race or the right age, they usually have an age range in the description of the character.

Be ready to build the character in your head before you audition and discuss what you believe might add to the character (make it better), the people making the casting calls appreciate this sort of inticiative and shows you have researched the part.

Best of luck (You WILL need it, regardless of your skill) and lots of <3

Well, after taking theater classes for over 5 years and performing in front of literally hundreds of people at Districts and State competitions (as well as people within my own community), I'd say all I need is the money to get where I'm going and a place to stay. I'm working, not in the "job" sense, right now for a small theater in my town. Getting a part is of course at the discretion of the producer and co. I never set it in my head that I have the part, only that I am an option that the board can select to use for a part. Hell, in a way, I'm a pawn. I just hope someone finds some good parts to put this pawn in. In my life, acting has become a reflex. It's completely natural. I do know my limits and what parts I shouldn't take, as far as appearances and ability go. Such as, don't play the guy that's supposed to be from Northern Africa-I don't have an accent and I'm about as pale as a Nord from Oblivion. But I've gotten encouragement from all of the people that matter to me, so acting will either be my future or not a part of my life at all.

So basic acting skills=done
Refining process=now
Professional level=if I get this far, 2-6 years from now
Full blown actor=just a goal at the moment, I've got to take each bar of the ladder one at a time

Thanks for the support!

Looking back this, I forgot to address something:

You know, it's funny: the last audition for a film that I went to they actually told me to look at and speak to the camera. It felt so wrong.

If you have the skill though, talking to a camera and creating expressions should work like a monologue. The theater class that I took in high school required us to do countless minor monologues. Now that I think about it, I would never had known that I could speak with the fierce man-voice of a viking lamenting over the pain of betrayal if not for those monologues....
