Re: Cyber Bullying.
I voted no for various reasons that have probably already been stated.
Though I don't send people messages and crap, I do enjoy PKing people in games until they quit. And I'm sure someone somewhere would call that cyber bullying, and then I'd have a mess to deal with.

No one does that.why send kids to court for being 5 min late to school
Unless there's some tremendously retarded people out there I'd rather not know about that. In the US (since we're primarily discussing there), such a thing is unconstitutional.

Uh to enforce my point, why send kids to court for being 5 min late to school and not send people who bully others to court ?
I think that honestly it boils down to, Stupid people being talked down by smart people, and then try to get them in trouble because they don't like it.

Re: Cyber Bullying.
Could one say that passing a law like this would be unconstitutional? I mean, no matter how hurtful the things that the people say may be, they still have a right to free speech.

Sckenck v. The Nation = People?
I'm sure if Obama gets cyber bullied osmething will be done about it (And has been done)

Re: Cyber Bullying.
Whats theat suppose to mean? And if that court story is true there was probably much more to it than that.
Freedom of speech does not mean you can say whatever you want, it has its limits. Which is why you can get in trouble for slander, among other things.
You shouldn't cyber bully, but it shouldn't be a crime. Now if a real crime is committed in the process, then yes. Even real bullying when a real crime is committed like theft or assault nothing ever happens. At least not enough of the time. This is just old people not being able to understand the times.

That court case had nothing to do with anything that could be applied to internet bullying.Mirus wrote:Sckenck v. Re: Cyber Bullying.
Making something like Cyber bullying into a federal crime would be impossible, mainly because it would already contradict a citizen's rights to free speech, weither it be good or bad. Yes, it is unfortunate that some people take their own lives because of it, but in the end, they still had choice of ignoring such things. In fact, most sites at least give you to power to block, delete, erase, or ban certain users. Ultimately, it's their responsibility weither or not they choose to open up the hate messages, reading the malicious texts or IM's. As long as the Internet exists, cyber bullying shall coincide with it. It's just too big of a phenomena to be made into a hard pressed law.

phenomenon*
I really hate to butt in just to correct some grammar, but that's one mixup that really pisses me off... ._.
...And on the subject, yeah, cyber bullying is bad, but in the end it's the person's own responsibility. And yes, it would be impossible to make something like that illegal because of the vast scape of the Internet... not to mention, say, it's illegal in the States but it's not in some other country... what kind of repercussion would that have?

Are you trying to imply that I'm saying something stupid? If you want to say something about what I said, say it.

Re: Cyber Bullying.
freedom of speech is good and should protect us, but after 9/11 if you're going to say something like bomb in an airport, might as well be prepared for the dozen airport patrollers that will jump your @$$.
why so serious, bro?

Re: Cyber Bullying.
Could you elaborate further on why this is relevant to the topic at hand aside from "freedom of speech"? If at all possible.

Re: Cyber Bullying.
I understand that things like that and threats in general are where the First Amendment kind of draws the line; I didn't talk about that because I felt it was self-explanatory. But cyber bullying doesn't usually consist of threats but rather constant insults. I was wondering if THAT was still covered by the Constitution.

Re: Cyber Bullying.
so cyber bullying never involved hollow threats?
nothing like maybe,
"****, if you don't stop being the dipshit that you are, i will break into your house and rape your anus with a chainsaw"? that was one of those 4 yr olds actually that i talked about in another thread. his vocabulary and grammer when he said it was atrocious though.

Re: Cyber Bullying.
And anyone who takes such hollow threats seriously has the emotional fortitude of a seven year old. The law shouldn't have to come into play just because someone cries at the drop of a hat or can't adequately reap what they sow, now I will only speak on what I do know (and what others have said) many of these "victims" aren't the most innocent of people and are largely a bunch of annoying morons that deserve to be told off (note this isn't in all cases, however I have little sympathy based on what I have observed).
Now for those who are being "verbally harmed" online or whatever, they need to get over it. Getting the government involved will be an expensive waste of time, I hate hearing about this cyber-bullying nonsense and quite honestly I will say that if someone is willing to commit suicide over something so trivial, let them they clearly can't handle much of the real world if stupid **** on the internet drives them to this at all.
Now I mentioned suicide earlier and can almost feel people going up in arms at me being insulting. I will apologize and admit I was. but like hell if I'm going to take it back because this is how I feel.
TL:DR I don't support Cyber-Bullying as being a federal crime.
