Harvest Cleric, Edge Punisher and Flick Reaper.

It's funny, in most games I don't like defensive classes XD

(and as to why I picked more than one, you shouldn't even need to ask that question if you know me at all)

Steam Gunner.

Though if R2 was real I'd probably be Adept Rogue with Steam Gunner and either Twin Blade or Blade Brandier

Too bad it doesn't work that way. It's never brought up in G.U. buy Adept rogues have a point system

TwinBlade, Brandier, Punisher = 1 point
Grappler, Partizan, Reaper = 2 points
Dancer, cleric, Warlock, Gunner = 3 points
Dual Guns = hacked and illegal.

Maximum points: 4

Minus the DGs, you have 7 points. Though Brandier and gunner DO go well together since blades have a high rengeki chance and guns have insane skill damage!

Adept Rogue with Blade Brandier and Steam Gunner. That has always been my favorite "job", to put it like that, as it completely covers short and long range, plus i love the skills from Blades/Bayonets. If i were to be a player in R:2, my character would be definetly that :P

I love the blade and bayonet skill myself, but ugh, it's sad when the steam gunner has a faster and more reliable basic attack combo than the blade brandier. I've been hacking the game and trying everyone in the address list and I have to say, brandiers are skill spammers, end of story. I'd rather be a close quarters combat Harvest Cleric than be sealed or out of SP as a brandier....

Blade Brandier is surprisingly cool. Probably more so then twin blade, but dual wielding is always badass. Flip a coin probably, or make one rogue of each and decide after trying them out.

I take back what I said about Brandiers. I finally tried a Tribal grappler. Now maybe my code was broken but my basic combo was one hit that landed twice. That's it. That CAN'T be right, like seriously....

Am I the only one who likes an adept rouge that's Partizan / Reaper? (Though Reaper is my favorite class.) I think its a good combination, the scythe can knock them back afar, and the lance can hit them from a distance. (I kinda wish we had others aside from pirosh that used them. Then maybe people would like them.)

Funny you mention that. My fiancee and I were discussing the classes we'd play if they made a real R:2 MMO, and we both wanted to try a Partizan/Reaper. Except we needed a faster hitter so I was going to main a Twinblade/ Dancer. Too bad that R:2 MMO rumor we heard was fake.

In fact, I've been playing as Piros with codes to try to get a specific after battle quote, and here's some fun facts you may not know about them!

1) They use the broadsword charge system. This means you can move while charging 3 levels. Of course, there is NO advantage to level 3 over level 1, unlike with the broadswords. The advantage to this is to chain together a combo with a mobile charge attack and then hitting the skill trigger before the charge attack uses up your skill gauge.

2) Despite being classified as anti-air weapons, their pierce skills are more effective tha, say, a twinblade pierce skill. It makes sense, because it's a lance, but point being, it's an all around shield breaker, whether it's crippling flight or shattering armor.

3) It's simply a solid, all around weapon with nice skills. Unlike the brandier and tribal grappler, the Partizan is a VERY solid job and I'm surprised Haseo isn't part Partizan as well!

Yes, that's really Sirius's basic combo.

Well, actually, it's that two-hit uppercut, then a palm strike. I think the latter is broken in Redemption, along with the lack of his invincible shockwave counter while guarding.

Anyway, Pi is the only "real" Tribal Grappler among the main cast. Tabby has a four-hit normal combo and then a spinning move that's like, say, Bison/Vega's Psycho Crusher without the flames (and she's the only one that can use it; if you give her model to someone else, the drill move will be missing... I'm not sure why...). Tabby's easily the best Grappler in the game I think, her weapon changing incapability be damned (Critical +50% is hardly a bad effect to have, even if Feline Soul's power is a plothole in the first place...).

The key differences between typical Tribal Grapplers and Rebirth Twin Blades are:

1. More HP for Grapplers, more defense for T.B.'s.
2. Longer regular attack combos for Grapplers.
3. Three Piercing Arts for Grapplers, but no Aerial Arts, compared to three Aerial arts + 1 Piercing for Twin Blades.

It... really isn't much in the grand scheme of things, unless you get picky about Art damage (I haven't measured Grappler Arts, so I don't know who's overall stronger). It's really hard to pick the better class, but it's easy to say that Grapplers don't justify their 2 point Rogue requirement one bit. The fact that Grapplers are 2 and Punishers are 1 is VERY likely just plot convenience for Haseo and Matsu.

Haseo post-Rebirth, Sophora (Reminisce), Azure Kite and Natsume mop the floor with both due to the speed of their regular attacks going up. IIRC, guard breaks don't take as long to charge as far as the meter is concerned, but have a prerequisite regular attack preceding it for Haseo and Sophora that evens things out. Azure Kite has the same, but uses a custom charge attack instead of a guard break (so even if he could equip other stuff, he'd still be inferior), and Natsume has a unique mix of post-Rebirth seven hit combo/Rebirth-style guard break. I think it shows that she learned well from Kite, as that's exactly what I would consider optimal. :P

Whatever you go with, Brandiers always suck. They're somehow slower than Edge Punishers and have the power of a Twin Blade, with no Piercing Arts.

I still say that the point system for melee weapons should be adjusted

1 point: Twinblades (the 4 hit combo, not the 7 hit) Tribal Grappler, Blade Brandier
2 Point: Twinblade (the 7 hit Haseo gets) Edge Punisher, Flick Reaper, Lord Partizan
3 Point: The mages and steam gunner

Unless we can shuffle the 2 and 3 around a bit? I mean really, Edge Punishers are more powerful than Shadow Warlocks any day....

I believe the Twin Blade change was supposed to be universal, much like the Edge Punisher change is; the Reminisce e-mail on the subject doesn't use different wording for the two classes. IOW, you can't differentiate between those two because story-wise, the Twin Blade class itself was upgraded, not just a few select characters.

If you did make two different Twin Blade selections anyway, you'd have to do the same for Edge Punishers too.

Alkaid doesn't have the 7 hit combo, does she? I only really used her in Reminisce, and she only had a 4-hit combo...

I never really noticed the subparness of Blade Brandiers, Silabus always seemed to do decent enough damage and he Rengeki's faster, which is good for me... plus Devil Sword is one of only a very few level 3 arts that actually work during Beast Awakening.

Haseo is the only twinblade that gets the 7 hit increase, from what I can tell. Granted, I've never played as Natsume/ Kite for longer than testing purposes, and playing as Alkaid was actually just masking her sprite over Sophora so she'd work properly. Point being, it was indeed MEANT to apply to everyone the way the email was written, but they only applied the change to Haseo in the game.

Mind you, the two different twinblade listings are basically "If" scenarios. Like, 1 point if the 4 hit combo is official and 2 points if the 7 hit combo is official. Having a choice between the two would be silly.

Unless there was a subpar version of every job that was worth fewer points? Like weaker skills or nerfed combos? Like, all the officials would be worth 3 points, but the lesser versions would be 1, so you could take 4 lessers or a lesser and a basic? It could work!

And yeah, Gyppy, the brandier skills are very nice, but take Silabus along and look at his basic combo.

Hits 1 and 2: quite slow, hit left and right (can hit more than one monster)
Hit 3: Still very slow, vertical slash (only hits 1)
Hit 4 with a non rapid attacks blade: VERY slow, but interrupts skills and knocks monsters back.

To give you an idea, Broadswords are faster than blades. His 3rd hit leaves him open if hits 1 and 2 hit 2 or more targets, and hit 4 is begging for punishment. I'vr tried to make a good blade brandier with codes, and the best I could manage is an SP Drain weapon with either skill boost or super charge, since they're nothing without their skills. Kaede is in fact the worst brandier I've tried (which is very sad since I love her sprite!) since not only are her attacks even slower, but there's more vertical hits which means more getting flanked.

Not all brandiers are bad, though. My tinkering around with Azure Orca was quite fun. He had broad sweeping strikes and they were a bit faster than SIlabus, who was of course faster than Kaede. Unfortunately you need codes to modify his equipment since it's fixed.

Bleh, yeah, maybe I should just set Sil to Rage next time and spam Noble Drops on him XD

(I almost always use Silabus, it's a given since he's one of my fave characters XD)

Not really. You were right about blades causing a rengeki chance with fewer hits. I was just pointing out their flaws. If he fights alongside you and hits the monster you're juggling, that's useful! But if you had a cheat device and tried to solo as him? Oh, the pain!

I'd post videos of how brutal it is if I had a way to record videos besides my cell phone, which costs money to send (videos, I mean. I can send photos fine) to my email.
