No, the ground type part of him overrides it. Just like the water in Empolean overrides Infernape's fire. Plus Ground and Grass means Ice is a double weakness.GyppyGirl2021 wrote:Uh yeah, true. And wouldn't Drill Peck also beat Torterra? Since, you know, Flying > Grass for some weird reason...

Oya, forgot. But Flying isn't weak against Ground.

Re: Pokemon Gen. V(?)
You're not figuring the attacks they're using vs the elements of what they're targeting.GyppyGirl2021 wrote:Oya, forgot. But Flying isn't weak against Ground.
Torterra uses Grass and Ground moves.
Empolean is Steel and Water, not flying.
Steel type is weak to Ground, but Empolean is faster than Torterra.
So since Tor only has 1 of Emp's weaknesses covered with a ground type attack, and Emp can learn Ice Beam, which covers both of Tor's weaknesses, Empolean wins because it's faster.
If Tor used a grass attack the Steel part of Emp would make the damage nearly nothing.
Infernape is Fire and Fighting
Empolean is Steel and Water, (again not flying, it can just learn flying moves)
Infernape is faster, and both of its types are strong vs Steel.
Its still weak to Water and Flying individually.
Empolean being Water makes the fire type attacks do less damage so the Steel weakness to fire is lessened.
Infernape needs to use fighting moves, which are physical. And steel types get TONS of Defense, so Emp can take a hit.
Empolean wins because it only needs to hit with Drill Peck 2-3 times to kill Infernape, where infernape needs 4-5 hits with nearly any fighting move to kill Empolean without killing itself in the process.

Re: Pokemon Gen. V(?)
All that is true and all, though funny story; my sister and I have D/P and sometimes it would be my lvl 100 Empoleon vs her lvl 100 Infernape- and we'd pretty much do a 1-hit K-O depending on whichever attack hit first XDErranty wrote: Infernape is Fire and Fighting

If she hit me with a fighting move first, I was gone- but if I got lucky/had good speed 'cause of whatever items/stats I had, I'd win out with Hydro Pump XD (I think water doesn't hurt the fighting part but really does do damage to the fire. But maybe next time I should just use Drill Peck instead? Better chance of hitting and all..)

Well, yeah, Surf is really the best Water-type move unless you're fighting a double battle... or you happen to be a primarily physical Water-type <_< ('cuz iirc it's Special in D/P)
And yeah, Empoleon beating Infernape and Torterra means that penguins > all

Oh rly? What about Electric? Neither Surf nor Ice Beam can get rid of an Electric type.Erranty wrote:We all know water types are the best. Especially Gyarados.
Charizard vs Blastoise = Surf ftw.
Venisaur vs Blastoise = Ice Beam ftw
2nd gen was the same way.
So was 3rd gen.
4th gen:
Infernape vs Empolean = Drill Peck ftw.
Torterra vs Empolean = Oh look, Ice Beam again...

Steel Nulls Electric attacks goof. Empolean can just use Steel wing and suddenly your Electric type is done for.Keyaki wrote:Oh rly? What about Electric? Neither Surf nor Ice Beam can get rid of an Electric type.Erranty wrote:We all know water types are the best. Especially Gyarados.

By the way, my Empolean moveset is:
Drill Peck
Surf
Ice Beam
Steel Wing
Those are all of its best moves for covering its weaknesses.
Re: Pokemon Gen. V(?)
You make it sounds so easy. But even though you make think you covered all of it's weaknesses there is always someway to beat it.

Steel doesn't negate Electric, it's neutral-effective. Ground negates Electric. <_<

Ahh I see. yeah, I didn't battle as much online, but now I can't battle or trade online at all ;__; Ever since my sister's old computer "broke" (Needs some new parts and mostly just needs to be reformatted..dunno how though~) we haven't been able to get back on wi-fi, even though she now uses a labtop =A= (the WEP key won't work anymore D: )Keyaki wrote:I'm not either but I've experience in Competitive Online Battling.MizuTakishima wrote:It's okay Keyaki, I still am too XD (though I'm really not the best strategist out there orz)

Ninjask
Swords Dance
Fury Cutter
Substitute
Double Team
Game Set and Match.
Use Substitute.
While the Substitute is out use Double Team and keep using it till you have max evasion.
Use Swords Dance till that's maxed out. (Agility and Strength)
Use Fury Cutter, it gets more power every time its used in a row.

Re: Pokemon Gen. V(?)
....I see that strategy fail against those Flying/Electric attacks with 100% accuracy. Substitute wouldn't last for long, and there wouldn't be enough time to increase strength, or even try to win with normal Fury Cutters o-oErranty wrote:Ninjask

Nintendo turned the series into a cash cow, that's what. Don't worry, it'll eventually stop. We hope.
