Xenoblade

There's a new game coming out for the Wii. Don't know much about it, but its called Xenoblade. Is this a successor/prequel to Xenosaga?

Well the game that came before Xenosaga was Xenogears. But by the looks of things I'd say its got nothing to do with the Xenosaga storyline, and is put FAR before Xenosaga ever took place.

It's related to both of them but they haven't revealed anything else yet as far as I know, except for the fact that the original creator Tetsuya Takahashi is involved "in some capacity." But I'm a little less than enthusiastic, because this is the the history of the Xeno- series:

-Game team leaves Squaresoft for cutting their game Xenogears short and not letting them make a series based on it.
-They found their own company, with the goal of making a series of six, hundred-hour games called Xenosaga.
-They realize that they're just as greedy and lazy as Square.
-Episode one is cut in half and shipped.
-By episode three, most of the original creative team has either left or relegated themselves to more minor roles, prompting the series to conclude.
-Nintendo buys company.
-Nintendo raises the series from the dead like some sort of unwilling zombie.

My guess is Takahashi will be in the same sort of supervisory role like he was in Episode III, and the "spirit" of the series will remain long-dead. It would be like if .hack ended, Nintendo bought it, and made their own game without any of the original creators. The new game could still be awesome on its own merits, and I like sf rpgs, but the "Xeno" branding doesn't do anything for me. The first reimagining was original. They'd have to wait a decade for a second one to make sense...
