I'm sorry, but I'd prefer to have my memory for what I'm using, not what I "might" use. That's the kinda crap that causes games to lag without even being online.

Admittedly, its useful if you have a pattern of programs you use and it judges how often you use them so it doesn't pre-load the ones you "aren't" about to use. But if you don't end up using those programs its just wasted space that could've been used to make another program run faster while it was open.
Idle RAM is a waste of resources - if an open program needs more memory, Windows will take it from the pool of cached RAM or free memory. I went through your other posts, so I'm not going argue with your blatant bashing of Windows new OS - I loved XP, but once you go to Vista or Windows 7, going back is very frustrating to me. Time to move on!

Well for now I got Vista to work right, and the way I want. It took a hell of a lot of time. So far the Windows 7 RC seems good. Cnet/Download.com is saying good things about it.

I haven't had a chance to use my copy of Windows 7 yet. I pre-ordered the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade back when it was 50% off. When I received it in the mail I was pleasantly surprised to find that even though I ordered just one copy, NewEgg had accidentally sent me two. Lucky me. I'm still going to wait a few months while Microsoft works on patching the biggest issues and bugs in the operating system before I install it on my computer. Also, I really don't feel like reformatting right now.

Hi,
The most evident change to Windows 7 was the discarding of a delay during log-in on a machine with an inactivated copy of Windows. Under Vista's scheme, users had to wait 15 seconds before clicking the "Activate Later" button to proceed to the desktop. In Windows 7, users can click that button immediately.

It's kinda a particular issue, but Dual display users who enjoyed apps jumping screens in Win Vista, can look forward to more of the same.

The issue tends to happen after you screen goes to powersave mode, or if you use a KVM. For whatever reason, the open application tends to freak out when your display refreshes. The issue is compounded if you also use a KVM. While I was in Windows 7, almost every other time I switched my KVM to the other machine, I would come back to find the last application (or multiple) hopped over to the other display.

My friend mentioned the issue to me, as he noticed it in Vista, when running a 2nd display off his laptop. I saw it pretty shortly into my Win 7 time.

Wanted to share my dual-display observations for any of you folks, so you aren't going insane trying to figure out WTF is going on. Besides the Dual-display meh, The boot time increase is quite nice, especially over Vista. If you go back to an XP boot, you will enjoy the annoyance of waiting for everything to finish loading, post login.

I've run into a few compatibility issues, but nothing that couldn't be fixed by switching the executable to compatibility mode for WinXP. There are two rather annoying bugs though. The first is that sometimes when I rename a shortcut on my desktop it will disappear until I hit Refresh, causing it to reappear on my screen with the new renamed label. The worse problem though is how frequently Windows Explorer (not the internet browser) crashes. I don't know how many times I've had to restart Windows Explorer or the Task Manager because for some reason it stopped working. Thankfully it hasn't resulting in any seriously problems, but having to restart it so many times is really annoying.

Read it once..

Windows 7 is next iteration of almost-monopolistic Microsoft Windows operating system, after Windows Vista. Windows 7 has both client and server editions that share the same code base, although Windows 7 Server will go by the name of Windows Server 2008 R2. Microsoft has released many information on general availability (GA) launch of Windows 7, together with features comparison between editions of Windows 7.Sensing the failure of Windows Vista, Microsoft claimed they started asking PC owners what they wanted from Windows 7, resulted in Windows 7 been” Engineered by us. Inspired by you” product, which will definitely satisfy end-users. In fact, Microsoft has prepared a complete listing of major and popular Windows 7 features on official Windows 7 home page, which worth take a look to fully understand and maximize usefulness of Windows 7.

I bought it with my student email for $30 or whatever. Tried it, it was pretty pointless. Most of the things people do with computers can still be done with XP. So I'm still wondering, what the hell are Vista and 7 for anyway?

Well Microsoft has to make money so they come out with something new. Newer versions will have more stuff, and the ability to do much more than its predecessors. I had to do some download from windows live to get a few things. Windows 7 is a bit more secure then xp, and vista. While it requires more to run its is very fast.

I can run Windows 32, and 64 bit. I use spyware blaster, firefox, and mcafee site advisor, malwarebytes, and avast. or avira antivirus. I use my standard account most of the time.

how frequently Windows Explorer (not the internet browser) crashes.
The same thing happens with my laptop. Thats the only part I dun understand either.

Another problem I had earlier was when Ragnarok Online private server client would crash on me for some unknown reason. Early January-late December I would try to start up my client and after I choose my character and log in, the cliet would just close instanteanously. Had to re-install it a few times to fix it......still dun know what the problem is/was.

The similar thing happened to a friend of mine, who clients didn't even open.

Aside from that issue ( and having to switch the F1 keys to function mode) Windows 7 is Awesome.

I've had Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my comp for a month now because a close friend wanted me to at least try it before bashing it... Its horrible. I'm going to backup my files on an external hard drive, boot nuke my system, then re-install XP.

My issues?
1. The keyboard isn't a User Interface anymore, its managed by a program instead of by direct input with a filter attached. This has caused my problems with my games. They use a lot of RAM so the key control lags, or stutters in the middle of movement while I'm still holding the button.

2. I just don't like that it automatically alphabetizes my files, or puts them in numerical order, that means I have to rename everything before I file it...

3. THE WORST ISSUE: Several times now when starting up it has made my SATA Hard Drive go well past its designated 7800RPMs causing damage to it and corrupting files. It has to use system recovery each time after it happens and still gets some of my files corrupted. I consider this a fatal flaw. I've NEVER had this issue with XP and would expect something like this to have been taken care of WELL BEFORE releasing the OS.

And there are a few more problems, mainly regarding keyboard control again though, but still incredibly annoying that users shouldn't have to deal with.

So I guess you could say my review of Windows 7 would be a 4/10. It tries to be better, but in all honestly its a DOWNGRADE from XP, its only redeeming qualities are the more easily customizable desktop themes, that you can pause and play music without having to un-minimize your program, and it saves space on your taskbar by only using icons to represent your programs.

I'd also throw in that it's required to play some of the newer games that are coming out, but that's just company greed telling you that if you don't pay money for a new OS they aren't going to let you play the game you've been looking forward to.

This annoys the hell out of me. In Vista I was able to arrange the order of my files however I liked, but if a way exists to do this in 7, I have yet to find it.

I've never encountered anyone to have the other issues though. My problem was that Windows Explorer would crash frequently, but it seems they've patched that issue since I haven't experience it in well over a month.

Wow, I've had NONE of those problems, then again......I have a different version.

And now I'm happy because I have XP again! Took 6 hours and 19 minutes for the boot nuke to completely wipe my hard drive of absolutely everything. I'm talking spotless, fresh out of the box clean!

Just finished all my updating for XP. Installed Firefox. And I'm about to delete Internet Explorer (damn virus magnet). Gonna get Avira Antivir and Spybot Search & Destroy as always. Going to completely avoid 4chan, that's what started this mess with me switching to Windows 7, the DDOS attacks got a little "advanced"...

Gonna reload all my CDs, music, photos, and emulators. Already got my bookmarks back on it.

I'm set!

Best way to learn:
1. Buy an official Windows disk of the Operating System of your choice.
2. Do whatever you want, and when something messes up use that disk to wipe everything and put windows back on it.
3. Now you know what not to do. Find something else to mess up then repeat step 2.

There is never an end to that loop by the way. Something will always mess up, at some time or another, no matter what. You'll get a virus, or your hard drive will get old and need to be replaced, or for some random reason you decided to organize the Windows32 files into 2 folders, or any number of things. No matter what, just be prepared to start from scratch and make sure you have backups of what you need.

If nothing else, go to your local computer store and ask for a ZIP drive. It copy's your hard drive's disk image so that whenever something goes wrong and your whole system gets wiped you can just replace it in 20 minutes with the last full system save you did to it.
