imo, Cubia in //XXXX was one of the best things they've done in the entire franchise.
Now if only they could do that without making him the big bad...

Re: Xth Forms
They could make everyone but Cubia the big bad for being so evolved that the network will collapse if their characters continue to exist. Just one idea, and not even unique.GyppyGirl2021 wrote:imo, Cubia in //XXXX was one of the best things they've done in the entire franchise.

Cubia being a force of good could definitely be done given this Xth Fiasco though. I imagine with all the excessive power flying around, it wouldn't be too hard to find a way to say it's somehow inherently evil simply by existing.
Re: Xth Forms
Does he have a unicorn horn?
So he has Tyson's hair and now hes got Sora's ultimate keyblade form? Too bad they didn't give him gold hair in his Xth form...

Re: Xth Forms
You know. We can just look at this in the Dissidia perspective. Let's just say that these so called "Xth Forms" are just the EX Mode versions of the characters. lol.
Anyway, here's my take on how these things work. Perhaps every character's Xth form is unique in their own way, for instance, Haseo's Xth form activates a special ability when paired up with Tokio, or Kite's Xth form produces an attack or special skill that no one else can achieve in the game. So, technically, the Xth Form is still a unique thing in this round, judging by my assumptions.

Re: Xth Forms
Cubia doesn't actually exist when he's not opposing anything, and G.U.'s Cubia Core looked kinda like Haseo in the same way XXXX's Cubia/Another Birth's Core looked kinda like Kite. I'd guess that if we ever see human Cubia again, in X'over or in Link, it would be kind of like Doctor Who--he'd be almost completely different, down to personality.
I really don't think this Xth form thing is a plot point, it's probably just a form that goes beyond the rules of the system. It's something long overdue in a series where change in appearance and gameplay has been extremely limited...
EDIT: Woah, legible! Please stand by...
EDIT EDIT: Here's a rough translation of some relevant parts. I'll do more as soon as I have the time...
What is Xth Form?
By fulfilling certain special conditions, characters can power up ("extend"). Xth form is the most powerful of these forms. In Tokio's case, he apparently awakens in a dungeon called "the Maze of the Final End."
(Caption 1) Tokio meets a mysterious princess in a dream. He hears her calling and reaches out his hand...
(Caption 2) Forcefully transported to a mysterious dungeon, Tokio gains Xth form in the maze!
For each character, Xth form drastically changes the Cross Rengeki cutscene and effects.
I said form, I didn't mean everything outside of the system. As far as I can remember the only PCs to change form from how they were originally designed in a manner not officially supported by the game were Ovan, Kite, Sora, and Haseo. Ovan got an extra arm and Kite changed color, but the only ones to change completely were Sora and Haseo, and as we know these are actually both related. Anyway, like I indicated, I don't think I need "proof" that 33 different characters gained all 8 Epitaphs, achieved balance with an Avatar, and became the Key of the Twilight. I'm amazed anyone believes that's a possibility.GyppyGirl2021 wrote:If there's any proof that Xth form refers in particular to anything that exists outside of the game specs, I'd like to hear it. Because if that's the case, the entirety of .hack// would be a menagerie of Xth forms and it really wouldn't have made any sense to introduce the term in G.U.
Yes they did. If I have all my money in my wallet does that mean I'm broke? They could all use Data Drain, they all had Twilight Bracelets, even if they were contained in Avatars.AuraTwilight wrote:They didn't have Twilight Bracelets, however, and in any case, they were justified, in that the entire original twist of GU was effectively reversing the prospect of Kite VS Cursed Wave.

Exactly.AuraTwilight wrote:In fairness, Za Warudo has been reading the minds of it's players since Day 1 of the franchise.

Re: Xth Forms
That's quite interesting...
so does this mean their appearance will change a little bit each time they extend?
or maybe they only get an overhaul once they reach Xth form.
Silvermane Kudan? haha I love that thing.
Kite's using a bow?! wtf... this displeases me.
Is Midori using Matsu's flame sword there? that's kinda cool.
I'm sure Blackrose and Mimiru will be glad they don't look so much alike anymore. (remembering GIFT)

Re: Xth Forms
Kite's weapon separates into dual blades and Black Rose's sword changed. Thanks for the translation. Guess this solves that online self Tokio dreamt about. Now for the monsters...

Re: Xth Forms
Tokio's Xth form, he dualwields heavy blades lol! Kite and Midori's Xth form looks nice. BlackRose's Xth form almost look identical to her usually self. CC2 are running out of ideas. Anyone else thinking this is going to be overpowered? Two characters in your party, in Xth form, doing cross Rengeki = @_@.

Agreed. Though you would think that it's more a metaphorical sleep, since the program to generate Cubia exists.Cubia doesn't actually exist when he's not opposing anything, and G.U.'s Cubia Core looked kinda like Haseo in the same way XXXX's Cubia/Another Birth's Core looked kinda like Kite. The Twilight Bracelet is an accessory that allows Data Drain. Being able to Data Drain does not mean you have the Bracelet. If Data Drain is built directly into you, you shouldn't need the Bracelet.Yes they did. If I have all my money in my wallet does that mean I'm broke? So how does Haseo being able to communicate with an artificial intelligence like this break your suspension of disbelief?Exactly.

Re: Xth Forms
I don't give a damn about the reason behind this or anything at all. The only thing I care about is that Kite and BlackRose look ***** awesome and almost everyone else look like ****.
I'm still never getting this game, but hot damn.

Re: Xth Forms
Well, awhile ago a few of us came up to a conclusion that Avatar Data Draining and Twilight Bracelet Data Drain are two different things, in terms of looks and effects, however...Kuukai wrote:Yes they did. Azure Kite corrupts this idea, mainly because of Azure Flame God and it's ability to Data Drain, yet Azure Kite has the bracelet still. I use to think Haseo and the others were able to Data Drain BECAUSE they were the eight phases of Morganna, but in a strange sense of events, Azure Flame God pulls on a whammy and Data Drains exactly like the phases, so I believe this conflict has risen to a stalemate.AuraTwilight wrote:The Twilight Bracelet is an accessory that allows Data Drain. Alas, another Dissidia coincidence. A twin blade user who's Dual Blades interlock to form a staff? I wonder who that could be?/<!73 wrote:Kite's weapon separates into dual blades

And you'd be correct. It's GIFT. They didn't even argue that much, if not, at all about their appearence in Unison.N3IWVC wrote:Actually I meant both but I couldn't think of what that episode was called atm so i just put GIFT.

Not really. He has a Bracelet, so he can Data Drain. So doesn't that revert back to Kuukai's statement then?AuraTwilight wrote:Not really. He has a Bracelet, so he can Data Drain. Azure Flame God doesn't really say anything one way or the other.
Re: Xth Forms
It’s fine. The Xth form won't take away anything from the characters. In the same way the avatar has their own uniqueness the same applies to each form. The phases had bracelets and the avatars retained them. Though the design was different data drain is data drain. As for Black Rose and Mimiru, the argument appears in a line for Unison however it’s far more open in GIFT. Any how it’s just the few we've seen that have the Xth form so there are no worries to begin with. At the same time even on a greater number the creators already know how to individualize.

I still really don't get the explanation - it seems to contradict itself to me, but that's just me thinking too hard again. >.<
Of course, I'll side with the (seemingly rare) belief that only a few of these look interesting. I mean, Haseo's Xth form just doesn't make any sense without BUTTPLATES. D:

Those are probably the wings from avatar awakening. As for the explaination all I saw was dungeon, not much to contrict from.

If you're refering to Drain Heart, then no. In fact, the orgin of that change most likely came from this:|<!73 wrote:Those are probably the wings from avatar awakening. As for the explaination all I saw was dungeon, not much to contrict from.
