Sins of a Solar Empire

Post by Erranty »

Anyone play it? Its a large scale space RTS that takes HOURS for one level. I just got the expansion ENTRENCHMENT and I'm liking the new Star Bases, but I think they're a little overpowered.

Love this game, used to play it regularly with a couple of friends, but we stopped since it started taking up so much of our time.

Even on the fastest game speed this game takes like 5 hours to complete, it's pretty ridiculous.

I know! But that's why I make custom maps, so the phase lanes are shorter.

I've played 4x games before (though the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Pax Imperia, which got boring fast). Is the capacity to customize built into the game, or is this primarily fan hacks/mods? I like being able to tweak games, I've done it since I found out I could modify the rules.ini file in Tiberian Sun but sometimes it's nice to have built-in tools that mean greater stability.

Anything else about what makes this a good meta-strategy game? I've had my eye on it, but never heard a whole lot of specifics.

I reviewed Sins of a Solar Empire in the PC PLAY gaming magazine. I was thorough enough to play it on three different configurations. One of them was even weaker than the Minimum Specifications. So trust me, if you can play FreeSpace 2, you can play Sins...
