Re: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
I used to laugh at the word Unicorn when thinking about Gundam Unicorn.
Then I realized. It could be so much worse. It could have been, Gundam Unicron.
A planet sized crap fest.

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
@Super- I can't see a series based on a planet sized gundam. I mean, what could destroy it? An army of Devil/ God Gundams?
plus, I don't think Unicorn's that bad at all. In fact, I think it's a pretty good name :0... but I still think they could've named it something cool and German... like 'Weiss' :S...
EDIT: THe German for Unicorn is 'Einhorn'. F**K YES :0.

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
Well, I could have made the thread title "Mobile Suit Gundam UC" and that probably wouldn't have looked as silly, but it's like writing "Gundam W", it's just wrong.

So, is it like, a giant robot with a horn and 4 legs the prances around granting little girls their wishes?
That sounds pretty cool too me. Little girls need role models OTHER than princesses.

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
I remember hearing about this a couple of months ago, but there wasn't that much information back then. Anyway, I'm excited about it and can't wait for its worldwide release!
The only things I have are these pictures from a magazine, if anyone wants to see them here they are:

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/1416/g ... icorn1.jpg
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/9468 ... icorn2.jpg
Personally I prefer this style, I would have cringed if it looked too Seedish or something.

I hate the Seed guy. Gah. Fafnir, Seed, SDestiny, the main characters all look exactly the same... If it wasn't for s-CRY-ed I'd never believe he can draw more than two faces...

... I thought Kira Jesus looked familiar. I should have made the connection sooner that he was from S-Cry-Ed face land.
Though I must admit... The art style of Unicorn that I'm seeing I dislike.
Its... A good attempt at being:
Oh! Almost forgot.

But it just doesn't quite look right... Barnage Lynx looks like if Kamhlle and Amuro had a baby... Scary idea that. And with no Bright around to 'correct' Barnage, if it turns out that he acts like Amuro or Kamille then the universe is doomed to fall to Not-Char... Actually... On this train of thought, I hope he acts like Amuro or Kamille... God forbid we get another Judau.Kuukai wrote:Tomino-level serious

Well, it could have been worse, maybe I just like the idea that they are attempting an old-school style >__> but that's just me.
Ah yes, Hisashi Hirai. Hm, I didn't know either he made the desgins for Scryed, no wonder they looked awefully familiar; now that I remember he also did Kurogane no Linebarrels :\Kuukai wrote:I hate the Seed guy. Gah. Re: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
I kinda like the characters. Keep in mind we could always be getting Mobile Suit O Gundam:

(Though some people say we already did, and 00 was some sort of remake...)
At any rate I'm glad they haven't overmodernized it (it still looks Golden Age), nor simply recycled past series. Although actually, to be honest, I would not mind O Gundam...

That's funny, because I just remembered, I had that toy when I was little, but I ripped off the horn and legs and now I still have the body xDDD.Kuukai wrote:Actually, no, that one's Fuunsaiki:

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
The Outer Gundam!? Ain't that a blast from the past. I never thought I'd see Newtype's Light here...
But hey, we all know we want Double Fake: Under the Gundam. I mean, what can be more bad-ass than a guy painting up a maintenance suit and taking on Char's Neo-Zeon?
The "Golden Age" style has been standard in the newer remakequels.
Kotetsushin Jeeg, Daikumaryu Gaiking, Shin Mazinger, and New Getter.
Seems to me like Japan has learned that anything involving Giant Robots kind of needs to look different than your average "Highschool Drama" or "Shoujo Show". Maybe the horrible drivel that was SeeD taught them something.

If I recall correctly, that's actually a legitimate configuration...kururusoft wrote:That's funny, because I just remembered, I had that toy when I was little, but I ripped off the horn and legs and now I still have the body xDDD.
It's hilarious. I actually had no idea about it until like a week ago when I was researching what issues of OUT I need to buy to get Saber Marionette Z... (tankou or not, I'm collecting the entire metaseries and no amount of hawaiian shirts can stop me)Super Robot wrote:The Outer Gundam!? Ain't that a blast from the past. I might be wrong, but I thought that "Golden Age" in anime generally referred to the "where the hell did this come from?" visual impressiveness of the 80s/very early nineties, that's the style I meant. Zeta through F91. It's a little different from comic books, where the crudely drawn but brilliant stuff at the beginning is considered the Golden Age. Maybe we can call that the Platinum Age? Or Dawn of Anime? Or something cool? Honestly I only know the terminology other otaku use, I'm sure Wikipedia has a giant section dedicated to this that is entirely wrong.Super Robot wrote:The "Golden Age" style has been standard in the newer remakequels.

But it is bad to stray. Although, what I meant was that plenty of OVAs and other UC spinoffs have used new art styles to some extent, and Gundam during the 80s was definitely influenced by contemporary trends, so it's not entirely expected that they're holding back now.

Re: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
I consider the "Golden Age of Mecha" to be the late seventies and early eighties. The days of a young Tomino and the legendary Go Nagai. Thats the "Golden Age Style" I meant.

Bwahaha I just talked to Tomino, how did you spend your weekend? Got to see a theatrical showing of Ring of Gundam, too. I think if Tomino had his way UC would be much more abstract...
