It is one of the situations where a group is involved that adds to a different universe I think... Well, Nasu made a situation for the 428 universe.
Though it's resemblance to Madlax is pretty easy to find. I don't know if that's what they were going for, but it's quite similar at least with Canaan's character.

Heh, the only reason why I'm interested in this is because Nasu's influence here. Although I have to say that Alphard is a pretty interesting character. But then again, Taxi Nakata is the one who drives half the show for me, lolpun.
