THE MOST AMAZING SHOW I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFETIME! I love Higurashi with the burning passion of a thousand super robot pilots. Everything about this show is perfect to my standards. Personally, my favorite character is Sonozaki Mion. With the exception of one thing, I doubt we will EVER get Kai. The original season leaves you with a huge plot cliffhanger. Since they decided to tell you the reason behind the ever repeating storyline with the last line of the show!

Amazing and wonderful anime, one of my favorites and i haven't found anything better than it, i just happen to prefer other series, but this one is truly amazing and perfect in every way.

And all episodes tie together, however, in order to understand how they really connect to each other and what's the reason behind every event that occurs and usually ends up very bad, you have to finish all the first season, then finish all of Kai, AND then rewatch most or all episodes, and only that way you'll understand at least most of it. I ended up reading in forums about all the story and how everything connects in the visual novels (which the anime is based of) and it was a bigger mindf*ck than .Hack is, at least to me XD

Yeah. I've played through Matsuri, which of course did a couple extra numbers on the series as a whole. However, Kai does have that filler chapter which is more informative than any other filler I've seen in a series! I've seen the first episode of Rei, and it's actually rather funny.

I do not disrespect her moe powers, but as an actual goddess, let's face it, she sucks...

This leads to that problem the Americans have with dubbing issues and just leaving the fans hanging with half a show because they didn't want to pick up the second part or third or fourth. They've done this same thing with Gundam. They've dubbed every series in U.C. EXCEPT ZZ and V. Which ZZ in particular is important to the overall plot

She's not a bad goddess. It's just that she really isn't one, just worshiped as one. She's actually just a mutated human with horns and psychic powers that was blamed for the disease originating in the lake, and was killed as a sacrifice. Afterwards, they started worshipping her as the vengeful Oyashiro-sama, ascending from "demon" to "kami." They're just idiot superstitious humans thought, and Hanyuu is really neither. Her great powers, if anything, are something she got from the energy of being worshiped or something. Or maybe she's just a really good psychic. An actual goddess, however, she is not.

Okay, yeah I'll give ya that. Since Hanyuu was the sacrifice of Onigafuchi to mediate between demons and humans, she became the "watcher" of sorts of Hinamizawa. But she does have some godly powers. Such as the halfway point of Matsuribayashi-hen where she can reflect a coin with cool spark effects, although that could be considered psychic, not godly.

Your perspective will become even less godly when you see Umineko no Naku Koro Ni, where it reveals that Hanyuu is a pawn for an even greater force that sees itself as a mere magician compared to even higher forces.

I've yet to attempt to go at Umineko, I've been reading a lot of the Higurashi novels lately, which does have one canonical chapter thus far. But I wasn't aware that Hanyuu was even in Umineko, does that mean that Fredrika is Rika (as I was suspecting the entire time)

She's not in it, but it's revealed that the witches at work in Umineko pretty much control all the events of Higurashi, and that Rika and Takano are both avatars of the witches. And yes, Fredericka, Fredericka Bernestel, and Rika are all the same person, to a point. Fredericka is the witch, Rika is her "game piece", and Bernestel is the collective consciousness of all the Rikas that died through the timeloops. It's not a case of Hanyuu transferring Rika's soul as it is giving the current Rika access to the past selves' memories. Hanyuu is comparable to an NPC in a video game.

... But When They Cry is the official english title for the series (Ryu07 said it, don't bother him about it) and is much faster to type, say and recognize. Unless you're going with just Higurashi then yeah.

And to be fair, dubs in general aren't bad, but the Higurashi dub is just hideous and I have no idea how you could watch it willingly. It somehow makes the endless shithole of a character called Rena worse. =|

Hey now, don't knock Rena, she has the best evil laugh, molests everything cute in sight, and is probably responsible for the Curse of the Colonel.

But oh my god, the voices in the dub are terrible. Satoko sounds like she's been smoking for 18 years.

I don't even feel like the dub did the series ANY justice whatsoever. Even if they attempted to make something sounds somewhat correct (GaGaiGar comes to mind) they totally did a screw job on it. The original seiyuu made that show seem so real to me. The emotions were put across so well, that I don't think ANY dubbing would've been satisfactory.

Oh come on, Makku. What about that time near the end of the first season where she totally flipped her gourd? AWESOME.

I mean, for god's sakes, she managed to take advantage of POWER OF FRIENDSHIP in order to hack up and hide corpses in a fridge in the junkyard. And one of the people she killed is a hooker.

She also has the best weapon, imo.

Cleaver power. That's some effective stuff. But as far as best "fight" scene ever, goes to Meakashi-hen. Taser Shion vs. Mace/Magic Hinamizawa Suppressor Serum Rika. Best fight scene EVER.

Oh boy, here we go again... The thing is, as cool of a character that Hanyuu might've been, she only ever truly "appears" in the second season. Which means that half the people that ever saw Higurashi don't even know she exists. Which is sad, granted. However, Hanyuu's theme song (taken from her character disk) is THE MOST ANNOYING THING EVER
