FFXIII U.S. release delayed until 2010

Post by My Japanese Animes »

So for anyone who still cares about Final Fantasy, FF13 has been delayed until mid 2010. Japan's 2009 release date, however, is unaffected. Word is that Microsoft is to blame, since the PS3 and 360 versions of the game will be launching simultaneously.

In other news, FF13 will probably not be good. However, it looks better than FF12, which was a terrible game in terms of story and especially combat. I could tell 12’s combat would be terrible merely by the demos and trailers. FF13 at least looks flashy, has pretty colors, and is going back to a futuristic style. I want to play it and now I have to wait.

Okay, so technically there hasn't been an official announcement. The rumor mill is turning, though. I could turn out wrong, more as news comes and people actually check facts.

See: http://gamer.blorge.com/2009/01/15/blam ... ay-on-ps3/

But if this is just a rumor it'll be a good thing. I want to play this game. Look at this guy:

Everything about this post makes me want to go get my Louisville Slugger and beat some sense into you and then bury you in the grave you've just dug for yourself. So lets begin.

You can say that it was a "terrible game" but most everyone else disagrees with you. Final Fantasy XII went over incredibly well despite the incessant bitching that went on from fanboys and purists who didn't want to see their precious series that beat turn-based random-battle system to death try something different. The new system went over well with the general public as well as the reviewers overall, which is impressive considering how many of them had played the previous games and how successful Final Fantasy X was. The game received great reviews not just from publishers but from fans as well. This whole vain "I could tell it would be bad just by the smell of the air on Sunday morning, three months before its release" garbage is baseless and ultimately irrelevant since it only serves to highlight how poor your judgment really is.

Considering that Final Fantasy XIII hasn't come out yet or that we've hardly seen any gameplay footage at all, I call **** on your "This will probably not be good" prediction followed by the patronizing remarks you decided to tack on like you were being cavalier. There's not even close to enough information about this game to make a judgment call yet. This isn't Vampire Rain.

I almost didn't respond to this, but when I saw the screen shot I was compelled.

He's right though. FFXII was one of the best of the series, for the simple fact that it went in a different direction then the other games with its battle system. Or maybe your just one of those people who played FFVII and thought it was totally different.

And FFXIII seems to have a innovative battle system, as it would have to be if they want to make FFAC battle scenes they plan.

And as for it being pushed back? Who the hell cares? Shouldn't we be used to having Square push games back? Its like a trademark of theirs. And its not like theres going to be anything we can do about it? Square doesn't listen to the people. Just look at all the petitions for a remake of FFVII? Yea.

I think it's more than just a rumor that the release has been delayed. Update Not that I'm all that concerned over that since there are plenty of other games that I'm interested in playing.

Now as for the opening post, though I do agree with the sentiment others here have against that stance since it's not a very accurate representation of FFXII, the game itself was not without it's flaws. The like or dislike of the battle system can on some level be brought completely down to personal preference, turn based vs more free flowing. I did like the gambit system so I had no qualms with it in that respect.

However as perfect as people want to make the story out to be, to be frank, there just wasn't enough of it. Where FFX was extremely linear in nature with very few side quests, FFXII was bogged down by them. It made progressing anywhere rather tedious at times and I found that aspect highly frustrating. Yes you could ignore them, but then you ran into the fun of lacking funds for equipping your party.

Anyway... I did like the voice acting, the mix up on the battle style and the addition of quests. Hoever in the end, it failed to strike a balance that I enjoyed and I grew bored with the game and never finished it. Overall I got enough enjoyment out of it that I felt my money was well spent.

Honestly, if any of you expected this game to make it here in 2009, you were dreaming.

Also, don't judge XIII based upon XII. Totally different teams working on the games.

Put me in the camp that was both bored by and enjoyed XII, but was ultimately disappointed primary due to its lack of, well, a point. For me, it's not one of the best, though it's not a bad game. It's a shame that a game with so much gameplay, which some love and some hate, wasn't balanced or complemented with any sort of cogent plot or characters.

I love when people make this arguement, and to be sure, I am agreeing with you, Gemcrim, Because well there seems to be something that rings very personally close to me. The fact is that I live in australia(Older members must be sick of hearing this, newbies however are new). Now for anyone still wondering, No I haven't played the G.U. Games because they've not been released here and Yes games especially take months later to come out down under than they do in the states, provided that they come out here at all.

Now lets think on this game for a momnet-final Fantasy X which looks intriguing at the moment, which unfortunatly for some, almost all final fantassy's will look until the day we are all long dead. It comes out in the states sometime in 2010. If it's say anytime before june I might also get it before 2010 ends, however if it's anytime after that I'll have the dubious pleasure of waiting another lot of time until most likely 2011, if they stretch it out.

I could be a little bit exagerating but if I am I do have good reason to. I mean Smash Brothers games took from 6 to 9 months extra to come out in australia, so me saying that I'll probably have to wait until 2011 isn't that much of a stretch.

And the best part is that I say all this knowing nothing on the game, aside from I believe a hot school-girl esque looking character in a promo picture which I saw so long ago I'm thinking I saw a Square Enix CG make of, well, one of my fantasy's. I can't be sure if it was real or not, but I can be sure that it definatly wasn't my final fantasy. NOW why did I make this post? Well to enforce the fact that people should be just patient and wait it out without having to **** about something which, if what someone said and the game is slated for a japan relase in 09, then as maromi pointed out it would be obvious that the game wouldn't reach the states at the very least until 2010.

First, news. This is pretty much confirmed now, Gamespot story, etc. Take a look for those who care. Next:

I’m a pessimist. The reason I think XIII won’t be good is because of XII. Mostly it’s me being bitter than after they made XI an MMO, the next thing they drop is XII. I really hate that game. From here on this is pretty much a post about why.

XII has the combat system of a MMO. It’s bland, it’s boring. I don’t care that they changed it from turn based, but they could at least change it to something that doesn’t suck. Compare FFXI to FFXII. Game would have made a better MMO. If you want to see a good RPG combat system, play Grandia. As for story, basically Star Wars. Characters were about as boring as fighting things, save Barsh or Balthier. I was just overwhelmed with this terrible feeling of apathy throughout the game, until I finally just couldn't turn it on again. The only good thing was the level up system, which was just the sphere grid from X shooting heroin and driving through a school zone at and hundred miles per hour while on fire.

But, as I said, XIII looks like it has a really pretty combat system. I’m just not counting on it to be good after the way the last one was implemented. And that one guy owns. So we’ll see.

P.S.: Australia really gets screwed on games. I feel bad for them.

Like I said, you shouldn't really anticipate XIII to suck based upon XII.

XIII is being developed by an entirely different team with an entirely different director. XI and XII are similar, mostly because of the development staff. XIII is going to be nothing like them.

However, I did share your feeling of apathy while playing XII, even if I enjoyed the combat.

Well, first of all, it wasn't delayed. There was no way in hell it was coming over this year. It took seven and a half months for XII to be translated, and half of it was already in English. Why would XIII take less time?

Now that that's out of the way, I want to say I really enjoyed the gameplay and story of XII. The main thing I hated was Van. It's not his character design, I'm cool with pretty much anything, it's just that he wasn't main character material. At all. I don't even get why he was there. You'd think that the first FF protagonist not to be named "hey you!" in the audio track would get a little more character and depth... Had the game been about Alsid, I'd give it a perfect 10. (His Japanese CV is Norio Wakamoto, not sure how much of his epic-ness made it into the English version) At any rate, XII was the first FF I actually completed (X was ruined for me so I never really got around to finishing), and I'm expecting good things from FFXIII.

Al-Cid needed much more screen time. His English VA was absolutely perfect. What wasted potential. Rozarria was strangely absent from most of the game.

Well the party and Dalmasca in general didn't really have anything against Rozarria since they weren't the empire that conquered them, there were also no artifacts (that we're aware of) the party needed from that country either, so there was no reason to go there. Though it should be known I think there should have been reason to go there (any reason would have done really be it get information from AL-Cid rather than have him come to us, or some plot device), if only to see what the hell kind of nation Rozarria was in comparison with the "evil" Archades.
