I think Ichigo more resembles Gohan I mean Ichigo is half Soul Reaper and Half Human, even by birth since Isshin is a Capitan class Soul Reaper. And Um, You could say the First Season of DBZ and the Current Arc of Bleach are almost the same, The Arrancars (Who are technically Aliens if you want a direct definition) are trying to claim Kakura Town, for the King's Key or what ever, And In DBZ the Saiyans were trying to capture Earth to offer to Frieza, there is a similarity^^, Plus the fact that Bleach has some charaters in Ichigo's school, aside from Chad, Ishida, and Orihime.

Almost the same? The way you have it compared shows that they have one similar situation. It also shows that there are different reasons, different people, different motivations different everything else except for the basic "Baddie wants to take over goody town/the palanet earth"

All I have to say is that all anime is almost a copy.
I'm at the point know where I know each character is most likely a copy from another anime or manga, so i just deal with it.
But, i wish we could just get some more orginal characters nowdays...

Honestly, if you break down most anime plotlines, they're all essentially the same. No story is unique anymore. That's why it's so hard to find good anime these days.

BUUUUUUUT WWII was not an anime (to my knowledge at least). They share similarities but the point still stands (at least for me) that DeathNote is unique among ANIME. Maybe not history, but anything "possible" (I am not saying a magical notebook is possible, but things such as character development and whatnot) is comparable because history is so rich. There are very little things humans haven't experienced.

The word cliche should be eradicated from the English language. By this point in history all plots have been done many times. Everything is techinically cliche. So quit calling shows cliche! They all are!

And since I haven't seen Death Note, I can't really say for myself if it's really as original as you say it is (although frankly I think it's overhyped to death). But from what little I have seen and heard, it's still about some self-righteous person and then the people hunting him down. In fact, you could probably break it down even further then that, I just don't know enough about it to do so.

But, as Kyero just said, pretty much every story is cliched now, anime or not. So you gotta look at the settings as original instead.

It's very good, in my opinion. Not quite worth all the hype but it is very good if you can get past the slow bridge in the middle (I consider it slow. It's like a valley before an explosion of "cool stuff" happening) and the fact that Light is an arrogant asshole that everyone is supposed to love.


On a side note, I found Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad to be alright. It wasn't THAT cliched or standard and the story was well told. I think the TC needs to say All Action anime is DBZ tweaked. Not all anime is.

I'd point out that Death Note has the whole "power corrupts" cliche, so I'd hardly call it 100% original. That doesn't make Death Note any less great.

IMO quality of a show is not based on its originality, but how its executed. Great original premises can turn out to be utter crap. Some seemingly cliched ideas turn out to be good if done properly.

Take Magical Girl Lyrical Girl Nanoha for example. Just the title already reeks of magical girl cooties. But the series itself has earned a large male demograph, because it has moments of hardcore awesomeness that appeal to amles audiences more than femal audiences. Nanoha, a freaking Magical girl , is called "White Devil" by the fans because shes pretty hardcore.
