"The anime revolves around two protagonists, Hirono Hiro and Asou Renji. On Christmas Eve, Hirono Hiro meets a girl named Miyamura Miyako who was chasing a purse snatcher. Hiro later finds out that Miyako also goes to the same school as he does and they start hanging out together. This made Hiro's childhood friend, Shindou Kei, feel left out. Kei then tries to compete with Miyako for Hiro's affection and a love triangle ensues. The anime also tells the story of Asou Renji. Renji meets a girl named Shindou Chihiro at an abandoned train station. He soon learns that Chihiro suffers from a type of amnesia where her memory span only lasts for 13 hours. He also discovers Chihiro's dream of writing a novel, but she has never been able to fulfill that dream due to her condition. Renji then decides to help her fulfill that dream.
The story revolves around the protagonist Hirono Hiro, a poor high school boy who draws shoujo manga for his living. One cold Christmas night after meeting a very strange woman in church, his bike gets stolen by another strange girl. He runs after her and finds her collapsed on the street. Her name is Miyamura Miyako and her bag got stolen by a man on a motorbike. Soon after, they start hanging out together, enjoying highschool life and whatnot. Hiro's life is also strongly dictated by Shindou Kei, his childhood friend." - ANN
Sooo... anybody seen this anime? I've pretty much fallen in love with it. ^^;; Just have to wait for the last episode to be subbed. :3
I've watched 2 episodes of it. luke says it's epic. I'm still on my non-anime mood but I have it all on my hard drive, I'll just see when I'm in the mood to watch anime. : /
Edit: Wow this anime really picks up after episode 2, as does all other epic anime. I've finished this anime and I've got to say, one of my top 3 romance/tragedy anime. Their use of the special effects also brings a unique touch to the story. Although most of the plot is cliché and the events were easily guessible, it still shocked me. This is a must-watch for any anime viewers.
I loved the character Chihiro the most out of all the other characters. I also agree with Kouen that it should be a must watch anime. The ending in episode 11 shocked me the most throughout the whole anime series. I felt so bad for Renji. The anime feels empty like without any other people around to me. I love the backgrounds and the music also.
Woo... sorry completely abandoned dothackers for a second there. <__<; Erm... um... okay. I'm surprised you guys replied. Dx I was starting to think that Ef wasn't really that well known... although I could've sworn it "kind of" was.
Kouen> :DDD W00t!! You saw it. XD I loved this series too! I'd say the events were easily guessable for Chihiro's and Renji's arc (except for episode 11... I wasn't exactly expecting that). But for the Miyako and Hirono arc... I was pretty surprised for some reason. And I must say... I loved the special effects. I think that's what got me through the first few episodes of the series until the story really began to pick up.
NeglectPrototypeDiclonius (NPD?)> I liked Chihiro more as well! Although some people seem to hate Chihiro. <__<; I was shocked by the ending of episode 11 too! O__O;; I was starting to wonder whether or not the ending I was hoping for (although it'd be cheesy) would come true. I like the way the series ended the ChihiroxRenji arc... it made sense without being so "ew that's lame."
I loved the OP to episode 12. I just plain squealed (I'm serious) when I saw the... changes. ~w~
Oh and... can somebody please explain the symbolism behind the novel and who "the girl" is? I mean I know who it is... according to Chihiro but I don't quite understand how it ties up with... ick. Don't know how to not spoil the story... oh!! Spoiler tags...
(( <__<;; I can't find them... am I blind? ))
Well do you get what I'm talking about? XD;; I'm really horrible at symbolism and I can only understand it if it's explained to me. I won't be able to match it on my own.
About the symbolism, I watched ef a long time ago, I forgot most of the stuff. But from what I understand, the lone girl is probably suppose to represent her. Chihiro thinks that she is in her own little world, she pretty much lies to herself that she wants to become this girl. She wants to isolate herself from everyone so that she doesn't hurt anyone's emotions. If I remember correctly she finds a portrait and marries it right? Then she decides to burn the whole place down. That's a mirror of what happens in episode 10? She "married" Renji and then destroyed everything, just like how the girl married the portrait and then burnt the mansion down. Of course, Renji proved that this depressing fantasy world is a lie by gathering her scattered memories back. Renji brought about change to Chihiro so that her life will not mirror her story where it will end up with a depressing ending. If Renji didn't do what he did, then Chihiro would've really ended up like the girl, destroying everything she achieved with Renji and going back to isolation.
Also, symbolism can be interpreted in many ways and it was designed to be that way. In most of anime, these fantasy stories are meant to mirror the character's inner emotions.
I thought it was obvious since Chihiro speaks about the goat and the circle.
This anime is EPIC. . . The first time I saw the first episode, I cannot speak and rather. .in awe when I watch the animation effects. I like this anime at first because of the animation.
At the 2nd episode, I changed subs to the faster one. Teh AQS is rather slow, so I don't have any choice but to change it to Conclave. . . . And the quality is pretty much different than AQS -_-; In the 2nd episode, I noticed that this story is going to have some. . .Beautiful story, and intresting Love-story. It was then when I decided to follow this anime.
And then, the last 4 episode is just. . .Epic. . . It was kinda. .Disturbing, sad and beautiful at the same time. .
Heck, mere words cannot explain the greatness of this anime.

Wowow it's revived! And right when I decide to check on this thread too... how strangely awesome.
This is what I understood from the story after my friend tried explaining it to me a bit:
Spoilllerrsss::::
Chihiro says that the girl is "us," meaning her and Renji. From my understanding, the girl represents Chihiro at times, but at other times, she represents their relationship. The girl's paintings can be thought of as the diary pages and/or Chihiro's memory. The paintings begin to change and become blurry. That's her memory starting to fade away. No matter how many times she repainted the paintings/reread her diary, they were always blurry. That's when she decided that it was hopeless and burned the paintings, throwing herself from the cliff. That could be the equivalent of Chihiro throwing away the diary pages and ending their relationship.
- End spoilers~ -
I dunno. Maybe the meaning behind the story was obvious and everybody has figured it out. >> Please tell me what you think of my take... I like Kouen's too. :3
No one is going to comment about Hiro2 and Miya2's relationship ? ^^;
I don't know why, but I somehow like them better than ChihiroxRenji. . Probably because of that 100 second scene :3

Meh... their relationship was pretty interesting too. I just think Chihiro's condition made me like her side of the story better. The 100 second thing though was crazy... it was awesome at first but later on just got a little annoying. That and... it was a little overdramatic. Even so, I like that. >> Although it was slightly annoying... I also liked the voice mails! >< Ah... Miyako's interesting. Very very interesting. Bah... I want to spoil a bunch of stuff but am too lazy to put spoiler tags. ==; That'll have to wait for later then...
The second ef original soundtrack was released recently. I have got to say that the beautiful pieces reminded me how dramatic ef was, now I want to watch it all over again. : /

haha I like the soundtrack and all... the only problem is... I don't quite remember hearing all of the pieces. x__x; Do you happen to know what episode track 12 (I...) is included in? For some strange reason I like it. As semi-creepy as it is.
Anyone had downloaded the OST for Ef : The latter Tale ? It's just awesome and quite sad in a way. .
It seems that Mizuki Hayama have some connection with Yuuko . .
*Sigh* if only SHAFT will release a 2nd season for this series...

Kryuzei> Nope. ^^; I only have the anime OSTs. Where'd you get the ones from the game? oo;;
LegendaryDarkKnight> May I ask what your prediction was? :3
Bahh.... I'm still bothered by the fact that the group that was translating Ef - The First Tale decided to cancel the project. and right when I'm getting into Visual Novels and whatnot too ~__~

It's been a couple months but basically at the end of ep1 I guessed that the book the one eyed chick had was a diary and she had amnesia. I forgot the rest.
