Simon took the death hard, that was expected...but god didnt anyone feel bad for Viral? That guy never got his revenge OR his damn Helmet back.Fragments.beta wrote:Yeah, I cried there too, and I rarely cry in anime. But when you think about it was really inevitable, it was the only way Simon could get out of Kamina's shadow. But damn, what a way to go. Between the action, hot blood speeches, action and music the episode was just awesome. And its not even the best episode of the series.IronGruntythe2nd wrote:Im going through the series again...Just finished Episode 8 and I must say...Tears of Manliness have been shed once again =(

Viral DID get his revenge. He.... just didn't know it. Not until he made himself a new nemesis anyway, which he also didn't realize until much later
And besides Enkidu looked much better with the axe-head, than that beam helmet.

Re: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
I highly recommend that everyone who's seen Gurren Lagann watch the two Gunbuster anime.
They're composed of two OVA series, six episodes each.
The first one is known as:
Diebuster is more recent--after FLCL but before Gurren Lagann--there are still direct references to Diebuster made by Gurren Lagann. Diebuster was produced back in 2004, but the animation quality is still among the best you'll ever see, and rivals Gurren Lagann's. It's also animated by the same team that did FLCL and Gurren Lagann, so know what you're getting into.
I beg you not to spoil these things for yourself by going to Wiki or TV Tropes, and also to sit through Gunbuster 1.
It's about 20 years old, but the animation was the best for its time, and it's utterly necessary to watch it before attempting Diebuster. My friend had this to say about Diebuster: "Every anime I've ever seen in my life was to prepare just for this."
And yeah, he had seen Gurren Lagann first and been swept up in its craze.
Trust me, I was skeptical at first, and I had to force my way through Gunbuster 1, but it makes watching Diebuster that much sweeter. And yes. Diebuster is epic.
If you skip Gunbuster 1 (c'mon, it's only six episodes!) you'll be totally lost in Diebuster later on.
Also, Nia's voice actress is the same as one of the main characters in Diebuster. Nia's eyes are actually a reference to said main character (they're not flowers, though--you'll see when you get there.)
If you're still not convinced, I leave you with this:

I'm practically begging you guys. It's totally worth it if you liked Gurren Lagann at all. Fight through Gunbuster 1 as best you can, sit through every second of it, then move onto Diebuster.

Re: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Well, I just finished watching the anime, it was really good, I wasn't expecting a few things and it entertained completely; funny, I hadn't realized this anime was made by Gainax until Episode 14 when I actually payed attention to the credits. But there were plenty of obvious references to Evangelion in there (like Lord Genome's Gunmen certainly resembles an Eva with a tail)and for what I've read in the posts there are references to other animes. The ending wasn't a "Disney Happy Ending", which is good (in my opinion, XO I'm just tired of those) and now I can't wait for the movie!.
Gunbuster, huh. The name does ring a bell, I remember reading it in a magazine years ago along with other works of Gainax. Probably one day I'll have the chance to watch it.

If you liked Gurren Lagann at all, you owe it to yourself to watch Diebuster (but first Gunbuster 1 out of necessity)!
Again, Gurren Lagann makes plenty of references in one way or another (words, movements, scenarios, cameos, etc.) to the two Gunbusters that are sort of...backwards-compatible?
You should be able to recognize the "originals" when watching the two Gunbusters, and fangasms will be had, and there will be much rejoicing.

Re: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Just finished watching it. Too much epic for me to describe into words. Just...epic. Basicly just one of those animes where the main characters are unknown to everything, but manage to pull through and defeat everything and go from simply 'mortal' battles to a full Mecha epic battle using the whole universe as the battlefield. This anime takes all the action and all emotional moments to way beyond the limits...however that's something i tend to enjoy alot, just seeing how the characters get an ultra special power and all enemies get pwned by it, same with the emotional rambles when people need them and the heart-touching moments...i cried on all of them, pretty much. Truly awesome anime IMO, i enjoyed it ALOT, and my still mouth hurts for keeping it open for the whole last episode....their power exceeds all of DBZ easily. Infintely over 9000.
Also, Kamina FTW.
