Nobodyknows, (moar lyk Nobodyknowsdoesn'tknow amirite?) shut the hell up, the website's had second season hints on it for freakin' months, and if we count the security camera video, almost a year.
Not much to say about this anime, it's okay, but it's not OMGLOLTHISISAWESOME and has been f@gged up by weeaboos and idiots for a while now. Still, it's good enough to watch again, and I'm looking forward to the second season.

Wait what???. Haruhi can blackmail an entire club in less than a minute. How can that NOT be awsome?Mellow Grunty wrote:Not much to say about this anime, it's okay, but it's not OMGLOLTHISISAWESOME and has been f@gged up by weeaboos and idiots for a while now. Yeah, Haruhi isn't that great. I mean, it's okay, but I've seen better. Plus, Yuki, and especially Itsuki were pretty lame. And what's with the stupid headband. SOS Brigade? Come on, lets at least try to be creative. This was a pretty boring series though.AuraTwilight wrote:Man, Mellow, what happened? ....okay, good point. Princess Tutu is atleast in the same tier. But Haruhi has it beat in comedy, which is what really matters.Mellow Grunty wrote:Hey, it is a good series, but there are tons of better ones.AuraTwilight wrote:Man, Mellow, what happened? and shame on you. Finish the series and have ALL YOUR FAVORITE SHIPPINGS RUINED! I swear, that ending was specifically made to please me and piss everyone else off.
Okay, now I know you're just lying to bait me. No one thinks Yuki is lame. No one.Yeah, Haruhi isn't that great. I mean, it's okay, but I've seen better. Re: The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya
since everyone seems to like the show i will break the long combo chain and say that i didn't like it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
first off i didn't like any of the characters with a few exceptions.
haruhi: arrogant and bossy. most of the time that dosn't really matter but when the animes centeral foucuse is on making her happy, it REALLY becuse a pain to wach her get away with arrogant actions. she was amusing but that's not enough to make up for the selfishness. for example, auska from neon gennisis evangelion was highly abnoxious but she also got herself in trouble for it. she also was a little more over the top implying that she was somwhat joking at times. that made her a great character. and before you say the anime had to be about making haruhi happy or the world would collapse, let me just say that has nothing to do with character personality.
kyon: the only really decent character. he didn't have much personality but he didn't have many faults eather.
the espers guy: i can hardly tell a difference between him and kyon other than he is much happier all the time
miharu: (I think that's her name) she is incredibly annoying. she is whinny, needy, and weak spirited girl. i really dislike girls like that. being whinny and needy is fine if the girl has a determined and strong personality to back it up. Flonn from digaea is a perfect example. she would preach to you about love happyness and being a good devil and there was nothing you could do about it. she had a strong and attactive will, miharu is just a follower and cry baby. i also don't think she is attractive looking.
nagomi: (I forgot her name) she was too quiet. i understand that is suposed to fit her personallity but that dosn't alow me to have any feelings for her becuse she is like a robot. she reminds me a rei in that sence. (evangelion)
the computer president: at first i felt very sorry for theis guy by being unfairly blackmailed by haruhi. he got his computer stolen and ther was really nothing he could do and i hated haruhi for that. that pitty though was short lived when they brought him back agian later in the series as a cheating jackass. an other bad character.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
another point is the fans of the series. there are so many fanboys and fangirls it's astonishing. that is fine but there claims get annoying.
"haruhi is the awsomest god ever"?
well, that is true............... with the exceptions of:
Zeus and every other greek god.
Loki, surt, odin, and lezard from valkyrie profile.
luther from star ocean
saruin from romancing saga
every godess in the touhou franchies.
the ancients from eternal darkness.
uroberus from atelier iris 3.
and pretty much every other god i can think of.
this isn't a terrible series but the fanboyness and fangirlness got really out of hand.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the story was fine but it didn't have much else going for it. the jokes for the most part weren't very funny. i can't remember very many scenes that made me laugh. the fact that the episodes were out of order was a little odd. nothing neccesarly bad, just akward.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
don't get me wrong. i'm perfectly fine if you enjoy this anime. this is just my 50 cents on it and i just wanted to get my opinion out.

Well, we're having it again, asshole, so put up your dukes.actually S1lentOp, me and AT already had this argument in another topic. it was the, "who do you think is the bitchiest anime character" topic.

The anime's central focus isn't keeping her happy, that's just what Koizumi says it is. The major theme of the series is that Haruhi needs to accept reality for what it is, and Kyon needs to learn to trust in and put faith in his dreams and fantasies more. As for Haruhi, she DOES get in trouble for actions, if you listen to the damn dialog. She is intentionally portrayed as a spoiled, immature child who's too used to getting her way, and Kyon is the only one willing to break that cycle so that she can develop as a person, and as later stories/episodes in the series demonstrate, this is happening, as she's becoming less bossy and more socially acceptable. The story in it's entirety is Haruhi's Coming of Passage.haruhi: arrogant and bossy. most of the time that dosn't really matter but when the animes centeral foucuse is on making her happy, it REALLY becuse a pain to wach her get away with arrogant actions. she was amusing but that's not enough to make up for the selfishness. for example, auska from neon gennisis evangelion was highly abnoxious but she also got herself in trouble for it. she also was a little more over the top implying that she was somwhat joking at times. that made her a great character. and before you say the anime had to be about making haruhi happy or the world would collapse, let me just say that has nothing to do with character personality.
No personality? What show were YOU watching?kyon: the only really decent character. he didn't have much personality but he didn't have many faults eather.
If you don't even know who you're criticizing, do yourself a favor and don't bother. That's like trying to prove evolution wrong by saying "evoluition iz monkees turning into huimans after million years. o wait monkees don't live dat long."the espers guy: i can hardly tell a difference between him and kyon other than he is much happier all the time
*Mikuru.miharu: (I think that's her name) she is incredibly annoying. she is whinny, needy, and weak spirited girl. i really dislike girls like that. being whinny and needy is fine if the girl has a determined and strong personality to back it up. Flonn from digaea is a perfect example. she would preach to you about love happyness and being a good devil and there was nothing you could do about it. she had a strong and attactive will, miharu is just a follower and cry baby. i also don't think she is attractive looking.
Whiny I'll give you, but she's not all that needy. She's basically a moeblob, so she's a modern Damsel in Distress. That's the role she plays, and she does it well, and she proves herself to be a VERY strong person in the Mikuru-centric storylines, like Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody.
*Nagatonagomi: (I forgot her name) she was too quiet. i understand that is suposed to fit her personallity but that dosn't alow me to have any feelings for her becuse she is like a robot. she reminds me a rei in that sence. (evangelion)
The only legitimate criticism so far, since you're an Asuka fan.
To be fair, the only way to have a chance against Haruhi is to cheat. That's easily observable even without being a Haruhi supporter.the computer president: at first i felt very sorry for theis guy by being unfairly blackmailed by haruhi. he got his computer stolen and ther was really nothing he could do and i hated haruhi for that. that pitty though was short lived when they brought him back agian later in the series as a cheating jackass. an other bad character.
Yea, but that's not really the fault of the series, is it? That's like saying Inuyasha sucks because of the fans. (Not to say that Inuyasha doesn't suck or anything, but I know plenty of people who judge it as bad without watching it purely by fan personalities, which isn't fair no matter how crappy or good a show is.)another point is the fans of the series. there are so many fanboys and fangirls it's astonishing. that is fine but there claims get annoying.
I doubt anyone has heard of most of those gods. I mean, who the **** is Saruin and why should I care? Also, as a nitpick, Luther wasn't a god, he was a human programmer.haruhi is the awsomest god ever"?
well, that is true............... with the exceptions of:
Zeus and every other greek god.
Loki, surt, odin, and lezard from valkyrie profile.
luther from star ocean
saruin from romancing saga
every godess in the touhou franchies.
the ancients from eternal darkness.
uroberus from atelier iris 3.
and pretty much every other god i can think of.
But on the subject of the Greek gods, I think any sane person can agree that Haruhi is a more interesting and developed character/god than a bunch of one-dimensional, bipolar super-sluts.
The books were written out of order, so the episodes had to reflect that. You're one of the only people who didn't find the show funny, and that's unfortunate for you. Tanigawa Nagaru has gotten critical acclaim for his marvelous sense of humor, both on Suzumiya Haruhi and other projects.the story was fine but it didn't have much else going for it. the jokes for the most part weren't very funny. i can't remember very many scenes that made me laugh. the fact that the episodes were out of order was a little odd. nothing neccesarly bad, just akward.
Though given how little you seem to know about the series you claimed to have thoroughly watched, you probably MISSED 80% of the humor because of it's unspoken subtleties.

sounds good to me.Well, we're having it again, asshole, so put up your dukes.![]()

half true half false. you are right in the scence that Koizumi said that was the point of the serise. (keeping haruhi happy). but she also has to keep happy otherwise she could reconfigure the world. even though the anime is about coming of age and accepting the world for what it is, the world itself and the story still relies on her happiness. The anime's central focus isn't keeping her happy, that's just what Koizumi says it is. The major theme of the series is that Haruhi needs to accept reality for what it is, and Kyon needs to learn to trust in and put faith in his dreams and fantasies more. The story in it's entirety is Haruhi's Coming of Passage.
now, when does she get punsihed for her action. they cheated the baseball team. she never got punished for stealing the computer captins computer. i'n fact she got rewarded for that later when they beat the cheating computer sociaty and earned all the computers. the island seen didn't have any moments that required punishment, but her demands with the every day things, like the heater, and the S.O.S. logo and kyon, and the search for espers, alien, and timetravilers, really draged on with little learning. kyon did force her to look at herself more, but little was developed on that.
care to elaborate on these two characters then. becuse i truly don't see much other than normal. by the way I don't get the "monky joke" or how it relates to not knowing the persons name.No personality? What show were YOU watching?
If you don't even know who you're criticizing, do yourself a favor and don't bother. That's like trying to prove evolution wrong by saying "evoluition iz monkees turning into huimans after million years. o wait monkees don't live dat long."
care to give an example. as far as I go, i didn't see any streagth in her in the anime. if the manga is different than i apologies. I'd be wrong then.Whiny I'll give you, but she's not all that needy. She's basically a moeblob, so she's a modern Damsel in Distress. That's the role she plays, and she does it well, and she proves herself to be a VERY strong person in the Mikuru-centric storylines, like Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody.
wait. wasn't her name yuki or something like that.*Nagato
but how would the computer president understand that? he doesn't know that haruhi is a god or that nagato is a supercomputer alien. he did that sherly out of being a jackass. shure he wanted his computer back, but haruhi illigaly stole it from him in the first place. To be fair, the only way to have a chance against Haruhi is to cheat. That's easily observable even without being a Haruhi supporter.
that's true. it's not the shows fault, but it does ruin the show a little. (for ME at least)Yea, but that's not really the fault of the series, is it? yeah, I know luther wasn't a god. but alot of people refer to him a such so i though i'd just add him for the heck of it. the point i was trying to make here is just how annoy the fans can be. oh, and about greek gods. greek gods are quite interesting. they suffer from many of the same problems that humans do, they each have there own pourpose, there are usually large family ties, and even though they are one dimentional they at least arn't annoying like haruhi.I doubt anyone has heard of most of those gods. I mean, who the **** is Saruin and why should I care? Also, as a nitpick, Luther wasn't a god, he was a human programmer.

as for humor, humor is an opinion so your point is invalid. that doesn't mean that there were no funny parts in the show. there were, but i've seen a hell lot better.
also. i noticed that you didn't provide any examples to back up your claims. care to explain yourself.

Re: The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya
Fair enough, but that's really more of a plot device to give us crazy hijinks, really, and to explore the philosophical idea of a childish, irresponsible deity that isn't Greek.half true half false. you are right in the scence that Koizumi said that was the point of the serise. (keeping haruhi happy). but she also has to keep happy otherwise she could reconfigure the world. even though the anime is about coming of age and accepting the world for what it is, the world itself and the story still relies on her happiness.
Well, she did get detention for the Bunny Girl act, but you'd probably need to read the books. Most of the TV Episodes are adaptations of the earlier stories in the novel series, but as the series progresses, she uses her reality-warping abilities less often and gets realistically reprimanded. There's even a story where the School Board attempts to confiscate the Literary Club Room from her.now, when does she get punsihed for her action. they cheated the baseball team. she never got punished for stealing the computer captins computer. i'n fact she got rewarded for that later when they beat the cheating computer sociaty and earned all the computers. the island seen didn't have any moments that required punishment, but her demands with the every day things, like the heater, and the S.O.S. logo and kyon, and the search for espers, alien, and timetravilers, really draged on with little learning. kyon did force her to look at herself more, but little was developed on that.
Besides, she's basically the Ubermensch ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubermensch
I won't bother explaining the Monkey thing if you miss the point that clearly, but Kyon is SUPPOSED to be normal, and yet he's one of the most developed characters in the show. He's pragmatic, realistic, responsibly hormonal, he hates his nickname, and he's basically built up to be Haruhi's opposite in every sense. Again, you really kind've need to read the books, because the anime really only represents a small fraction of the series, and they're planning to release more anime seasons.care to elaborate on these two characters then. becuse i truly don't see much other than normal. by the way I don't get the "monky joke" or how it relates to not knowing the persons name.
As for Koizumi, his entire personality is an act, by his own admittal, but he does give us glimpses of his real personality at times, like his raging homosexuality.

The manga sucks ass, don't bother with it. Anyway, the books are full of examples, as I said. As for the anime, I can really only point to Big Mikuru, since Mikuru's character is dissatisfyingly developed in the anime, as I'll even admit.care to give an example. as far as I go, i didn't see any streagth in her in the anime. if the manga is different than i apologies. I'd be wrong then.
Yuki Nagato.wait. wasn't her name yuki or something like that.
You don't have to know Haruhi is supernatural to know that. Haruhi is an expert at everything she tries. She can master the guitar in ten minutes, memorize songs in two or three reviews, and masters every sport she picks up in a day. She's INFAMOUS on the school campus for her capabilities.but how would the computer president understand that? he doesn't know that haruhi is a god or that nagato is a supercomputer alien. he did that sherly out of being a jackass. shure he wanted his computer back, but haruhi illigaly stole it from him in the first place.
And Haruhi didn't "steal" anything. She "Negotiated" herself a free computer. ^_^
Then you're shallow, and probably not the kind of two-dimensional person the series caters to in the first place.that's true. it's not the shows fault, but it does ruin the show a little. (for ME at least)
Haruhi being annoying is only your opinion, same as that of the Greek Gods. I personally find Haruhi to be one of the most complex and well-written characters ever to emerge in recent popular culture. The Greek Gods, in my opinion, are just lame ass caricatures like the Easter Bunny, that don't even TRY to have any depth or interesting qualities.yeah, I know luther wasn't a god. but alot of people refer to him a such so i though i'd just add him for the heck of it. the point i was trying to make here is just how annoy the fans can be. oh, and about greek gods. greek gods are quite interesting. they suffer from many of the same problems that humans do, they each have there own pourpose, there are usually large family ties, and even though they are one dimentional they at least arn't annoying like haruhi.
I'm not talking from an opinionated viewpoint. Most of the humor IS subtle and unspoken, the kind of thing you have to sit and think about for a few minutes for it to come to you, like the plot of Evangelion. That's not opinion, that's an observable fact.as for humor, humor is an opinion so your point is invalid. that doesn't mean that there were no funny parts in the show. there were, but i've seen a hell lot better.
Well, I can't cite examples from the book without breaking copyright law, ass.also. i noticed that you didn't provide any examples to back up your claims. care to explain yourself.

ah. that makes more sense.Well, she did get detention for the Bunny Girl act, but you'd probably need to read the books. Most of the TV Episodes are adaptations of the earlier stories in the novel series, but as the series progresses, she uses her reality-warping abilities less often and gets realistically reprimanded. There's even a story where the School Board attempts to confiscate the Literary Club Room from her.
Besides, she's basically the Ubermensch ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubermensch
so, aparently the books have a lot more.I won't bother explaining the Monkey thing if you miss the point that clearly, but Kyon is SUPPOSED to be normal, and yet he's one of the most developed characters in the show. He's pragmatic, realistic, responsibly hormonal, he hates his nickname, and he's basically built up to be Haruhi's opposite in every sense. As for Koizumi, his entire personality is an act, by his own admittal, but he does give us glimpses of his real personality at times, like his raging homosexuality. And his jealousy of Kyon's bond with Haruhi, a connection he can never have with anyone. There's other small hints, but no real BIG examples I can point you to since, unlike Nagato and Mikuru, he hasn't had his centric storyline yet.
by the way. what i ment by no personality was that his personality was nothing out of the ordinary so it was hard to see on. sorry if i wasn't clear about that.
i wasn't refering to her development, more her clingy and desperate nature i just found displeasing. The manga sucks ass, don't bother with it. Anyway, the books are full of examples, as I said. As for the anime, I can really only point to Big Mikuru, since Mikuru's character is dissatisfyingly developed in the anime, as I'll even admit.
ah, thanks.Yuki Nagato.
that still dosn't make him any less of a jackass for cheating. You don't have to know Haruhi is supernatural to know that. Haruhi is an expert at everything she tries. She can master the guitar in ten minutes, memorize songs in two or three reviews, and masters every sport she picks up in a day. She's INFAMOUS on the school campus for her capabilities.
negotiated=negotiatedAnd Haruhi didn't "steal" anything. She "Negotiated" herself a free computer. ^_^
"negotiated"=stole
a couple of things to mention here. one, THIS WHOLE DEBATE IS AN OPINION. now that that's out of the way. humor is something that is different from person to person. there may have been places in the anime that were suposed to be funny but whether or not they were is a different matter that relies soley on the person waching them. Then you're shallow, and probably not the kind of two-dimensional person the series caters to in the first place.
Haruhi being annoying is only your opinion, same as that of the Greek Gods. I personally find Haruhi to be one of the most complex and well-written characters ever to emerge in recent popular culture. The Greek Gods, in my opinion, are just lame ass caricatures like the Easter Bunny, that don't even TRY to have any depth or interesting qualities.
I'm not talking from an opinionated viewpoint. Most of the humor IS subtle and unspoken, the kind of thing you have to sit and think about for a few minutes for it to come to you, like the plot of Evangelion. That's not opinion, that's an observable fact.
opinion. like this.I personally find Haruhi to be one of the most complex and well-written characters ever to emerge in recent popular culture.
now about the fan point. FAN BOYS AND GIRLS DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. granted it's not with the anime in consideration up until the present point of fandom. it has to do with the industry. lets look at this together by first looking at another industry that has already fallen victume to fanboys and fangirls. the gaming industry.
the gaming industry once used to be a land were people would make games for fun and to plese the populus. this was way way back in the day when games were created for entertainment purposes. however as the gaming industry got larger and more advaced games got created game creators relized they could put larger storys into there games. the graphics could also be enhanced to look more real. this became a big hit and seemed to be a great idea, except for one problem. THE GAMING COMPANY DOSN'T MAKE GAMES ANYMORE. IT MAKES MOVIES. go to game FAQ's. look and all the big name games. notice how almost all of them revolve completely around movie qualitys. story, cutsenes, drama, graphics, and puting yourself into the characters shoes. very little of them revolve around music, gameplay, path selection, speed, or fun. what ever happened to replay value? you know, more characters to play as, more modes, more variability in the difficulty settings, more paths to choose through the game, completly different endings and ending bosses, battles change depending on situation, battles have tons of variaty and options on how the fight, and a general fun feel. there is no skill left in any game anymore. skill and difficulty are two different things mind you. a game can still be hard even though it dosn't require any skill. all games nowadays fit this bill.
But why? why did the gaming industry plumet? the fans. go read some reveiws on the big name games. just go down the list of reveiws. all the 10/10's on the side. read there reasons for it. notice how that all they do is talk about the movie fetures. the consences of gaming has shifted and the majority of people demand movies in there games. the big name game reveiwers have to subcome to the will of the masses or they won't be amiered buy the masses who support them financially. and many brainless fans just blindly accept what they are told. being a victome of persuation at points myself i can say that people will look at games differently depending on wether or not there expecting it to be good or bad by someones reveiw. this is how fanboys and fangirls ruin games.
this goes back to you AT and several others on this site.
plese tell me what this has to do with your opinion of the anime or more so why i should care about what OTHER PEOPLE think about the anime or what he was nominated for. this debate is opinion oriented.Tanigawa Nagaru has gotten critical acclaim for his marvelous sense of humor, both on Suzumiya Haruhi and other projects.
now, back to this anime. the fanboys and fangirls do ruin it. even though the anime is already written into books, other storys don't have much of a chance when there are fans who claim that.
"why bother, she will never be good as haruhi" or
"the melchanholy of suzumi haruhi blow this crappy anime away" or
"these characters suck compared to the ones in the melchanholy of suzumi haruhi".
once agian, this would be fine for people to have opinions, however. when every one out of three websites i go to talks about how great this crappy anime is, it does hurt the anime to me. i just had to put my belifs in this forum becuse you and several others bashed on people who didn't like the show. it was my way of evening the playing field.
what kind of pathetic excuse is this? yes you can talk about it. i'm not asking you to display actuall pages from it.Well, I can't cite examples from the book without breaking copyright law, ass.

Re: The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya
Yea, there's nine books out with plans for more, and the anime only covers like...two.so, aparently the books have a lot more.
by the way. what i ment by no personality was that his personality was nothing out of the ordinary so it was hard to see on. sorry if i wasn't clear about that.
And Kyon has a normal personality because he's the NORMAL GUY! It's his role. That's like whining about Endrance being a hopeless romantic when it's his JOB to be such.
Right. The series has her progressing from being clingy and helpless to a confident and strong-spirited woman, but the anime hasn't reached that point yet.i wasn't refering to her development, more her clingy and desperate nature i just found displeasing.
It was Haruhi's will. She doesn't want to just beat a person, she wants to have the moral high ground.that still dosn't make him any less of a jackass for cheating.
Well, whether or not you find it "humorous" I mean that the intended jokes and "laughs" aren't going to be spoonfed to you, that's what I mean. Most of what the fans find funny isn't the "lol Haruhi said something CRAYZEE" again, but all the subtler things around that.a couple of things to mention here. one, THIS WHOLE DEBATE IS AN OPINION. now that that's out of the way. humor is something that is different from person to person. there may have been places in the anime that were suposed to be funny but whether or not they were is a different matter that relies soley on the person waching them.
I love how you make this big essay with lots of work put into it, but it's not relevant at all to what we're talking about. Sucks, huh?now about the fan point. Alright, fine. But that doesn't mean the fans are ruining it, just ruining your own enjoyment of a series that, on purely objective basis of quality, is a top-notch, award-winning show. Whether or not you like it is of course your choice, but it's not purely subjective opinion if one is bold enough to call Haruhi one of the best anime ever created.now, back to this anime. the fanboys and fangirls do ruin it. even though the anime is already written into books, other storys don't have much of a chance when there are fans who claim that.

Alright, fine. Which of my claims do you want citations and evidence for? I'll be glad to get some.what kind of pathetic excuse is this? yes you can talk about it. i'm not asking you to display actuall pages from it.

Re: The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya
I dunno...I never got to watching this anime. I procrastinate too much..I keep saying I'll take a day to watch it and then I get hungry and my mind wanders elsewhere...
