Vampires today are typically based on western vampire folklore, therefore I'll compare them with western demon folklore. Of course, in these comparisons I am speaking generally since some legends vary on this.

Demons are spiritual beings
Vampires are physical beings

Demons were never human
Vampires were once human (exception: the first vampire [e.g. Lilith])

Demons are living (spiritually)
Vampires are undead

Demons can go into the daylight without being effected
Vampires cannot

Generally, demons cannot incarnate or take the form of humans
Vampires can take the form of humans and are incarnate as they are always physical beings

Demons cannot make humans into the demons
Vampires can make humans into vampires

Demons don't sleep in a coffin filled with the dirt of their birthplace
Vampires do sleep in a coffin filled with the dirt of their birthplace

Demons came before vampires
Vampires came after humans (or in some legends, at the same time)

I can go on if you'd like. There's much, much more if I start in with the nuances of the smaller legends and include Eastern folklore as well. What I've said is just common folklore that's recognized today. There are very few vampire legends where a vampire is anything similar to a demon, and I'm talking about the east African tribal legends that no one really knows much about. A common mistake people make, though, is assuming that if a demon drinks blood that it automatically makes it a vampire. Having vampiric qualities doesn't make something a vampire for the same reason that a human eating meat doesn't make it a wolf or a bear or a tiger. Here's a quick tidbit: Just because two things are dark and scary and inhuman, it doesn't mean they're both the same thing.
