I don't quite think that's true, people aren't -afraid- of hearing/seeing a sad story. From what I can tell people just don't wanna show their emotions.
I for one, really enjoy a good sad anime. But I will agree that there aren't enough of them, but we still got a fair amount. But on the subject of sad; bitter-sweet endings I do not enjoy, there is just something about it. I rather it be a happy ending, or a sad ending. Bitter-sweet endings, sometimes I just don't know either to be sad or to be somewhat happy, and agree that it's just better this way about the ending results.
back on topic: The gore of Elfen Lied didn't quite appeal to me, however it wasn't too over-the-top that it would disgust me. Cliche or not, which I don't know why people complain about so much, pretty much alot of ideas are taken already. So just because it's similiar to another existing ones, doesn't mean it's still not enjoyable to watch. People should really understand that, and not just about animes, but alot of other things too.
yeah, even though, if you think about it afterwards and you find problems with it (similar to other stuff etc), that still doesn't effect the experience of watching it or how good it was when you was actually watching it.
i just hate it when people may of enjoyed watching it, but after they go, hang on, that bit was done before in some other film. but who cares? if you enjoyed watching it, why would that alone make a difference? :S
For Example, take the movies........Enemy Mine, and Last Action Hero, They were very predictable, but at the sametime, nobody saw the endings of these 2 movies coming. Unpredictable.
nobody saw the ending of RuroKen either....i mean...he died in her arms like a pussie...coulda went out tlike the bad ass he was...but on topic...i think that it was a good ending overall....we all know its lucy behind that door, but we were left with the conclusion that it may not be lucy.

There's always that possiblity that it's not, but like you said....we know it's her. I've been telling my friend laddie to watch the E.L. OVA where Lucy remembers back to when she was a kid. (You know...the bonus episode) I just got back and I made him watch it on you tube today on his PS3....the quality of the Youtube videos are awesome when seen on a PS3.
any way, I got off topic.
But, the point is, that there are going to be things in an anime that nobody likes.
RuroKen......did kinda go out like a puss but, he was infected with that disease. If I were him I would have liked someone to put me out of my misery......(harsh I know)
the quality of youtube videos will always be terrible, no matter what they're being played on :S
the reason why nothing's ever been rated perfect is because its not perfect for everyone, as there's bound to be things some people dont like, like you said. but i feel, for me, this anime is one of the best i've seen
The episodes I have on my computer are edited where you see the point of t he head or arms coming off by a black shadow....loking thing...versus the Unedited I have on DVD.

If you were going to bother getting the episodes on your computer, than you might as well have gotten the DVD rips that don't have the gore edited out..
Well....I just wanted to see the difference. The gore isn't edited out. When a guy loses his head or arm...it always looks like they are in the middle of a big shadow, but you can still see the blood and the haead coming off you just can't see the spine or the squirting, but you do see the blood coming out of the neck. I have all the episodes on DVD and the dfference is astronomical, when watched in 1080i.
DotHack-Haseo wrote:It's when you got the tv for it.......and the composit cables...or I could be Mistaken and it be 1080p.
But, it does look nice on my tv.
With the composite cables hooked up I know it's either 1080i or 1080p.
those cables and tv may be capable of outputing such resolutions, but i'm pretty damn sure the video's on dvd's are not that resolution lol
(so if the video on the dvd is like 1024x567, the dvd player or tv wont magicaly pump it up to 1080 whatever and fill in the missing pixels with magic )
i asked this german girl i know why on earth they may of named it "elfen lied". i thought it may be because of the music box. but apparently thats not in the manga, so that wouldn't work.
but she said it's a german fairytale or something, but couldn't remember much. which does sound like it'd make sense :O
This anime is freakin' awweeesome. Even though it was reeeaalllly short.
Why is it that all the good animes are around 13 episodes (Haruhi, Elfen lied etc) and all the bad ones are REALLY long (I'll keep said bad one nameless in order to avoid being burnt)
The Gore, random nudity, funny moments and still serious storyline made it awesome. I'm sad I finished it already. The ending sucked. They better do a season 2 or something, think about it.
-Stll possible alot of others
-That evil director guy is still alive
That along should be enough, I doubt we'll get another season though.
That /Was/ Lucy at the end, right? >_>;
I wouldn't call it random or gratuitous. A lot of it made sense where it was. The only time it was "random" was for comical relief, which this series definitely needed...
The ending sucked.
Not really. The ending wrapped up the story between everyone except the evil director, and it closed with some subtle implications rather than spelling it out for the viewers as so many animes often do.
