you looked it up, didn't you? lol. but yeah, when saphira flew into the sky and grew up i think they skipped like at least 4-5 chapters. and she already knew her name. isn't brom supposed to ...whisper it... and Eragon throws out a bunch of names until he finds Saphira? it's been awile since i read the book.ReimeiRyuu wrote:A Deus ex machina is a Latin phrase that is used to describe an unexpected, artificial, or improbable character, device, or event introduced suddenly in a work of fiction or drama to resolve a situation or untangle a plot .kite of chaos wrote: i thought a dues ex machina was when the story put some kind of sudden end to it. for example, i don't know if any here had to read "lord of the flies" (i hated that book (it was from hell)) but the navy dude at the end was a dues ex machina.

I haven't read the books... I was planning to... But then, I saw the movie... i know the movie's a poor representation of the book... But seeing as it was the first representation I saw, I will never be able to get the abomination out of my head... It played out like a Star Wars rip-off with a little Tolkien seasoning added in. And I couldn't follow what was going on, anyway... How did Eragon suddenly know elvish words out of the blue? And, most importantly, what the heck was going on?
he's supposed to spend a long time traveling from carvahal to the varden and Brom teaches him most of the words. but they basically skipped the whole traveling scene...and only showed them sparring once, instead of every night. they missed at least 6 chapters in the area.cidkuneraze wrote:I haven't read the books... (OOC: your signature is too big the max dimensions are 600X150.)
as soon as i got home, i ran to my computer and ...obtain... both released books from the trilogy... i'm not sure if the third one is out, but still.... i read about 5 minutes of it and it was obviously different just in that first chapter and a little of the second that i got through... but still, it kept to the story-line for the most part, but the minor details were skewed to hell... and does anyone get the sneaking suspicion that the king is Eragon's father...please... above all cliche's, that one makes me the angriest when used in a serious story.... but still, i saw it with my nephew, he loved it, and so we'll see the next one... good chance to catch up on my naptimes.

Normally, I'll watch a few minutes of every movie that plays in my theatre (well, part of my job, I suppose) and this is one that I try to ignore if at all possible (sadly, someone's been scratching my prints, so I gotta check them for scratches). Go see Night at the Museum if you want a good comedy, or see Dreamgirls if you want a musical, Pursuit of Happiness if you want a true story (same for We are Marshall)...but not Rocky (too damn many Rocky movies, IMO)
