what is the point?
with the hole topic of "Is There a God" i was just wondering what is the point to life? is it just to have fun? or to just pass on your DNA or is there something more? and i dont want to hear too much about religion but if you need it to explain your point that is ok i just dont want to start a fire that wont go out

I believe that, in life, we learn lessons. Through death and reincarnation we take on innumerable lives in order to learn different lessons through these lives.
I don't believe in conventional reincarnation... That is, I don't believe we graduate from an inferior to superior form, or that our lives are influenced by time and space, you could become some fungus living in another galaxy millions of years ago once you die.

I figure life is just one of those things that has no point what so ever. Especially on the earth. I mean, nothing we do is truly signifant. If I had a button that could end our planet, it would hardly effect the planets right next to us, much less our sun, much much the rest of the galaxy, much much much less the entire universe. So when i look at it like that, i can keep living without going insane.

I do not believe in reincarnation. But I have thought about it many times, and if I did believe it I would think of it the same way as Umbra.
But I don't think you can have a topic about the point of life and not expect people's responses to involve religion to some degree. Religion is how we make sense of the universe, so to bar it from this thread is going to harshly limit the discussion.

There is a point to life. That point is that we are born to live in it and decide what to so as we live it. Then when the times comes that you die, you will have to wait whether there is more or nothing at all.
In a way, there may not be a very great point in living life (unless you believe in god) If you do, then things change quite a bit. Because when you live and believe in a god, you base your entire understanding and actions on the laws of your god. Then, well every religion has its own point to life.
(that was confusing, even for me. XP)

lmao, i think it is a masterpiece. how else could it be better? people live how they want, and like a true rpg there is no reset button although it would be cool if we did.Bryce_P wrote:I do believe Life was meant to be God's attempt at the ultimate RPG...sadly, he failed. epic.
There is no failure in life unless you make it that way.
Technically reincarnation is true and every single person on the planet or creature of that matter is a prime example. A child is made of both his dad and mom. Which is just as good as saying "living again". Basically you are parents in another form. Its why when you act or do something a particular way "Thats something your mom would do" or "you walk just like your dad".marthwmaster wrote:I do not believe in reincarnation. Because you are them in another form and yourself. And then it goes on, and on, and on with you experiencing what they did.
Ironically people want to be immortal but they already are if they reproduce and stop bsing with all this nonsense going on in the world.

I agree with Aera on this one. Life would suck if you could just reset over and over again because you didnt get what you want. Im glad ive had my dark and destructive expriences as a child. For it made me who I am today. Heck most adults wouldnt have survived the way my sis and I did.
So instead of worrying about it, push forward, smile and enjoy what life has to offer. Everyone finds out the same thing at the end of the road, we just take different directions.

My Thoughts On the Subject....
I am not a deep thinker, and I do not usually post on topics like this...
but since it has nothing to do with religion, I'll give my opinion.
Life is what you make it. (life is what you make it out to be)
Good
Bad
The In-between figure
All part of the dagger that nudges us into making life changing decisions.
For me, I have my ups and my downs, and most often the feeling of confusion (deciding whether i am up or down).
I have more sinking and confusing attacks of the dagger than the helpful ones, my confidence is mostly going through harsh criticism from my consciousness of my being that I do not make big decisions well.
However, I know, as a personal view to evade the stab of depression, that One is never wasting time when One is having fun.
So, when I look back on my life up until right now, I think to myself...
I have not wasted MY days and thoughts, I have spent them doing things MY way, no matter how the dagger of misunderstanding may pry at my feelings, and I am SATISFIED. (when you find your own meaning of life, you too become satisfied, and you will know if your feelings on your lifes meaning are true or not; One cannot hide from Ones self, nor can One lie to Ones self and truely be satisfied with their being.)

O.o That's...not quite what I mean, and some people may resent the idea of being a 'reincarnation' of their parents.Ignus wrote:Technically reincarnation is true and every single person on the planet or creature of that matter is a prime example. I mean it in purely a spiritual sense, of course there is the chance that all life that exists, has existed, or ever will exist, share the same soul and are the numerous lives of this one being. However, I don't believe that reincarnation has any affect on your physical or mental state, how would you learn things if you have the same mind, or even the same body, over and over again?
I also believe that the idea using procreation to create new life is much more of a romantic prospect than using procreation to create an extension of yourself.
Not once in my life have I had been in a dreamless sleep... ¬_¬*kite* wrote:IMO, you live to have fun because once you die your dead. Like, for reals. (a little off-topic) You know when you have a dreamless night? Well that's what death's going to be... except you don't wake up.

i have a question for you *kite*. Have you ever talked to a person who has died and then been brought back to life? they say some interesting things
That they do. My aunt was legally dead for 20 sec.The Essence of Transcende wrote:no i agree with Umbra*kite* wrote:Man.... You have to be pullin' my leg. I mean... like... wow.Umbra wrote:Not once in my life have I had been in a dreamless sleep... ¬_¬

I think most people who want immortality also want their consciousness to stick around with them. I would expect such a person to gather a great deal of knowledge over the course of countless lifetimes. However, if you were to ask your 1000-year descendant something obscure but vitally important about yourself, do you think they would be able to answer correctly? If the answer is no, then that person is not you, regardless of what his DNA would have you believe.Ignus wrote:Ironically people want to be immortal but they already are if they reproduce and stop bsing with all this nonsense going on in the world.
