I doubt you'll find one. There is only one partially (and poorly) translated one out there which you may find on some forums, but not this one. An original ISO of the japanese version is almost impossible to find. I recommend buying the game. It's about $30.

Oh the japanese iso is fine..Your working on a patch yes? thatr means there's a way to impliment the patch to the iso? Or at least I do hope so. Besides I would buy it but unfortunately I am too poor to afford a game.

You might be poor, but be bountiful and rich with knowledge of this sites rules.

(THIS INCLUDES IN YOUR SIGNATURE, PRIVATE MESSAGES, AND ANYTHING ELSE ON THE MESSAGE BOARD. THERE ARE NO LOOP HOLES! YOU WILL BE BANNED!)
This is probably why your finding it difficult to find a copy of the ISO file. Because those who have tried are now banned forever.

Let me just say, I am grateful that you guys are doing this!

And I was wondering if you could help me find the pictures and overlay graphics within the UMD's ISO
By this kind of thing, I mean the stuff in the bottom-right like the town names, and "Main Menu" when you pause.
I was thinking that I might attempt to modify these photos in photoshop or something so they would be english.

If you could help me with this, that would be AWESOME. And as a .hack fan, I wish you all good luck with this project!

I was interested in doing the same. I don't know how to rip the graphics from the game though, but if this is possible, it would make the game look even better. I'll see what I can find out.

You can take the images from the ISO disc by using a CPK Extractor and then converting the files once more. Incidentally, may I ask a question? I found a progression chart on the world wide web. But is the list below still accurate? Where has translation team stopped at? Likewise has the grandwhale database been worked on. To add what was added in the translation process?
  • Code: Select all

    Abilities = 100%
    Abilities = 100%
    Abilities description = 98%
    Character names = 91%
    NPC = 76 %
    BGM names = 0%
    Area names = 5%
    Area description = 56%
    Monster names = 45%
    Monster msgs = 5%
    Weapon names = 55%
    Object names(like chest, doors) = 80%
    Item names = 100%
    Item Description = 85%
    Link play Area names+description = 0%
    Skill names+description = 90%
    Cross rengeki names = 100%
    Cross rengeki description = 50%
    Passive skills(Like Small Exp+,Crit dmg 20%) = 100%
    Menu(Link play messages not included) = 93%
    Menu(Link play messages included) = 78%

This list is by another team who was working on it (as far as I know), but I think they stopped or something.

That patch was by kenma9123, who helped with this translation patch.
Once this patch goes out, Kenma said he would stop support for that patch.

Thank You. I appreciate the explanation. Also what is the process of the dictionary for Grand Whale? There is nothing listed for Kenma's group but the archive is still in the game.

Since Kenma is helping will you guys be using what he has translated so far with your patch or is it all from scratch?

Hey There Guys
was just wondering if you could brief us on whats been happening? like a small update or something
like what you've done and what you havent done as of yet
are you guys just still just mainly concentrating on the ~"terror Infection" project or are you skipping that and focusing on the "Mirage mutation"?
if you are still concerntrating on the terror infection...is it just a playable "shadow signs" or will there be also be a few "extras" in there? (as it is well past the October deadline so i thought you guys were translating more stuff into the terror infection patch)

Thanks

Like the others above me, I am really looking forward to a status update of some sort. This project is probably the only chance for me to be able to play this game short of learning Japanese (although I do plan to start learning Japanese this Summer). I know I would enjoy it more in English and so I really hope this project hasn't been abandoned or anything like that. Just haven't heard anything in a while and am curious. Hopefully you are still working on it and I am rooting for you if you are. Hope to hear something soon, thanks.

Hey all!

I've been silently following this thread since page six and I've never really thought to post anything, given that there's not a whole lot I can contribute with my limited Japanese skills and non-existent coding ability.

I check this thread so often that I kinda feel like I know half of you guys, hahaha. I absolutely adore the .hack// series and after LINK's release, I became more and more devastated as the months went by without any word on localization. Finding out about this project was a huge relief to me; people who enjoyed .hack// as much as I did were coming together to give fellow english-speaking fans of the franchise access to the final chapter.

That said, I am getting a little worried. I fully acknowledge that those of you actively working on this project are under no obligation to any of us whatsoever but from memory, the last actual update on the status of the patch itself was the announcement of iterative patches back in July of last year, where the release date of the first patch (of a potential eight) was staged for release about 8 months ago.

I had a brief look at the story videos and while they seem freakin' incredible, I just can't bring myself to watch; not being able to walk around Mac Anu, speaking to every NPC, seeing what they have to trade, stocking up on Fairy's Orbs and Fortune Wires and then rushing into battle screaming RENGEKI just wouldn't feel right to me.

I'm not too fussed about WHEN Terror Infection gets released--I don't know about y'all, but I would really just appreciate some reassurance that it is on its way and the project hasn't fallen by the wayside.

I really hope that none of the above came across as pushy or impatient; I truly appreciate the work that you guys are doing and I'm certain there are plenty of people just like myself who follow this thread religiously without posting. So, on behalf of us all..

..keep up the good work!!

For a while I was to help the group out, but unfortunately, I have not heard back about my role in the project. As far as I can tell, the others are busy with life. The project is likely still underway, but it's going slowly and the lack of info is a bit disconcerting.

We haven't forgotten about this. Some members of the project are really busy right now but it isn't forgotten, just delayed.
Batman wrote:Since Kenma is helping will you guys be using what he has translated so far with your patch or is it all from scratch?
He isn't, that's actually completely off. The two patches have nothing to do with each other. His patch is really preliminary, it would be hard to reuse it since so many things need to be doublechecked.
ZAxel wrote:is it just a playable "shadow signs" or will there be also be a few "extras" in there?
There's going to be a little more. But we're assuming everyone can figure out how to play the game and can't easily understand the story, and concentrating on the latter. If "ready to play" means 100% of everything, that won't be for a while. But the main story will be understandable.

Some people have watched along with the video as they've played, which has worked well. Note that there isn't any trading in this game, and the item system is so simple it's pretty much last on the list of things to translate because it's so easy to figure out. If you want to be able to speak to every NPC, you have to realize that would be left to somewhere near the end too, because just in terms of SPOKEN dialogue there are dozens of hours of content. When we get into idle text and f-skits there's an insane amount of text that has no impact on the story.
