How long do you play an mmorpg?

I was talking with my friend today and I told him that after a year or so almost all the MMORPGs are being boring and almost all of them are based on same logic.
I told him the reason they get boring is almost everybody power plays instead of role playing. Well as I see not so many people role plays which makes it boring after you got everything you want, got powerfull and see everything that you can see.

I myself used to be an MMORPG freak, who plays everyday nonstop day and night, which lasted for like 1,5 or 2 years but at the end even me got bored of the same things.

Wrong section perhaps? ^^

I've personally never played an mmorpg for more than 1 month (Ragnarok Online is an morpg rather than an mmorpg. I played that for atleast 9 months). Could you add in an option in the poll for people like me? ;)

Moved to Gaming.

I think it's a good idea to roleplay. As you said, there's only so much satisfaction powerleveling can give you, but there's always going to be someone who's got a cooler backstory than yours.

I can understand why someone would feel that way about RO if they had experienced it the way I had, but I am curious why you believe RO was just an mo rather than an mmo.
I will play anygame for as long as I can draw enjoyment from it. Personally, I have never had the chance to test these limits as my opportunities or experiences were often changed beyond my control causing the sudden end of my campaign in all the mmo's I have played.
I think they can last a few years though, but I've never had a chance to play one for more than a year and a half.

Well, i just don't find it big enough i suppose. There's no real line where i differ between mmorpg or morpg. It just doesn't feel as massive(mainly in amount of players) as most mmorpgs out there.
Simple as that.

All you did was burn yourself out. Its norm.

Im not a heavy rp though (neither are most of my online friends). To me its pretty strange when you got a Galka talkin in Old English (i find it funny but others just want to strangle him)

Still Im not a fan for the fact its just a forgotten norm from the shifting times. (Unless its wow, then again i was on a rp server)

To me, its easy being myself while killing some monsters with my friends. I learned what happens when one does burn yourself out and i wont make that same mistake again 8)

I played Neopets for 2 years. Regretted that. Played Runescape for a year, didn't really regret that. Wasted 2 years of my life on MapleStory, highly regretted that. Current MMORPG I'm playing: None.

When I did leave ffxi I took a chunk out of my life. At the time it was a good thing but on the same coin bad. I had no real common goal, virtual wise, so all I did when I played single player games was waste my time.

By the time I did get back from wow, most of my friends had left. Heck some are still "leaving" but Ill see them again. Cause one never really leaves ffxi. That was proven the day I logged back in for the first time in many months.

I played a dothack simulation for about a month. It was pretty fun since I could log on and go on adventures with my friends. Only problem was they didn't stay up really late. XD

I played World of Warcraft for about 2 years, then I got bored of it and quit. Now I play EVE. Unlike Wow, though, I plan to play EVE much longer.

I played FFXI for almost two years, and I actually do miss certain aspects of it (I still think it's the most beautiful game out there.) Right now, my boyfriend and I have been playing Silkroad together, which isn't bad, but I'm starting to get that oh-so familiar Korean MMO vibe from it.

How long do you play an mmorpg?

I played FFXI for 2 years. It was fun and I had a lot of great friends. Since then, I tried out a lot of MMORPGs and I just didn't like any the same way. Now I'm trying to finish all my games that I haven't played in awhile.

idk how long ive played wow... but yeah lol

I think the key to keep an mmorpg fun instead of being repetitive is to set goals... like for me, its my exclusive guild, to get a 60 ram, and exalted in IF

Usually 1-2 years.

RO was about 1 1/2 years, FF XI was the same, WoW was 1 year, EQ2 was about a year (though I am thinking of starting it again with the recent expansion, and DDO was less than a year.

So I was wondering another thing also,
what is your main reason mostly to decide to leave the MMORPG you had been playing quite a while? getting boring? getting broke on cash? friends effect? or some another reason?

Well for me as I said before the reason is it becomes boring after I have seen everything that I can see.

PS: sorry, that I had put the thread to wrong section at first
