Japanese Infection

Post by Pazuzu »

Dear Japanese Infection,

God, I hate you. You won't let me set characters to First Aid, change their equipment or have them do ANYTHING useful.

Also, you don't seem to understand what chests SHOULD have in them, which means I'm currently quite broke and have fairly inferior weapons. And no treasure. At all.

No love,
Pazuzu

Was anyone else surprised when they played this first and realised what life was like without the lovely Mutation upgrade that was applied to the English Infection?

Umm, I don't remember it being quite that bad, and the major upgrades all came in Outbreak... I'm pretty sure you could do first aid, since I completely abuse that menu... I was also quite rich, dunno... ^^;;

Quite rich... waiting for the other games, so you "farmed" gold and got the best equipment before moving on? I remember I was like that with all the games, haha.

Open up any of the games and check out the Board. See at the bottom, that Version Upgrade to 2.75? Yeah, that came at the start of Infection in the English, but in Mutation in the Japanese.

So, basically, Japanese Infection players are stuck with no Elemental Hits (boo!), no Monster Tolerances (yay!) and completely random chests.

As an example, I just got a Gott Statue a few minutes ago, and it contained a single Fortune Wire. But in one of the chests in the dungeon, I miraculously picked up a Grunty Doll. (this only happened once in the game, and probably never will again. =/)

Hahah! So that's the "update" weird... though interesting, I like random items. I wonder if the code's somewhere in the English version to hack it out?

I just wish that NA's AI Mutation updates had been added to Infection. Your party members are dumb as rocks in Infection.

I'll have to agree with you there, they are so much better in Mutation aren't they?

Since it doesn't change during a game, I don't think so. It just signifies a hardcoded part of the engine...

Cry me a river. The NA Mutation patch we didn't get till like JP Quarantine or something... I'd bet serious money that you guys will have a nicer camera in Rebirth....

I suppose that is a bit unfair... sorry about that Kuukai, didn't mean to make you angry.

Not angry ^^; This thead is about how much crappier the Japanese version though, so there was so much irony in someone complaining about the US version in it. That said, even the final version wasn't without things that could be improved. I wonder what the more subtle parts of fragment are like, that went under the radar. They apparently have some sort of extra skill system, for one thing...

I thought if anyone on the board's was available to try fragment it would be you, living in Japan and all... but I suppose that's just a bit too much money to waste? Just to satisfy curiousity?

I don't live in Japan anymore ;_; I'd import, but I really didn't want to spend $60 for fragment, so I ended up just not getting it... ^^;

That's kinda strange. I thought the japanese version would be good since they are the first to get their hands on the game.

I'm guessing changing the script to English only took a few weeks, changing the item's only took a week or two. Though this also gives time for improvement's to help it sell better here, I suppose here.

About a year ago. I miss it, hopefully I'll go back when I graduate or something...

It's actually not that uncommon for most RPGs for the NA version to have a little something "extra". Almost al the big name ones do. Then they repackage and sell that version again in Japan. Kinda lame from my perspective...

That's interesting. I wonder if the remade version include Infection and Mutation on one disc as well as Outbreak and Quarantine on anohter single disc.

.hack isn't really one of the games they did that for (though it's been done to every voiced Final Fantasy, XS, Star Ocean, Kingdom Hearts, and many others). They did rerelease it as a "greatest hits" version with two game discs to a box, but at the loss of Liminality.

In my opinion it's difficult to play the game, (well at least the last one) without all the behind the scenes info. you get from Liminality.
